Marjorie Reese, always tried new things
Marjorie B. Reese was a quiet woman who wasn't afraid to learn new things.
After dedicating much of her life to her husband, children and grandchildren, Mrs. Reese, a native of Augusta, found time in recent years to pursue her own interests.
"About three or four years ago, she got a computer and learned how to surf the 'Net, " said Mrs. Reese's daughter, Mary Beth Reeves of Augusta. "She always wanted to try new things."
Mrs. Reese, 77, of Augusta, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church in Augusta and the Augusta Art Guild. Her husband, Albert Reese, died in 1998.
Mrs. Reese spent most of her life in the house where she was born. She raised her children and grandchildren there.
Computers weren't her only new interest later in life. She had several relatives who are artists and she took up painting last summer.
"She wanted to draw and paint, " Mrs. Reeves said. "She did a few small things."
Mrs. Reese was close to her grandchildren and one granddaughter left her job to be closer to Mrs. Reese when she learned that her grandmother was ill, Mrs. Reeves said.
"She was a very quiet person who was devoted to her family, " Mrs. Reeves said of her mother. "She also had numerous friends in town."
Other survivors include a son, Brad Reese of Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Augusta.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery.

Juanita Brophy, 79, of Ludlow, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a retired waitress with Lamplight Patio, Bromley, and a member of Community of Faith Presbyterian Church of Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur R. Brophy; a son, Ed Brophy of London; daughters, Judy Hall of of Vancouver, Wash., and Patty Moore of Park Hills; a brother, Bill Edwards of Florence; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Ulysses Combs, 74, of Kenton Vale, died at 2:31 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Hazel V. Estes, 72, of Florence, died Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence .
She was an employee of Globe Security Co.
Survivors include a son, Steve Estes of Union; a brother, Ernest Vaughn of Dayton, Ohio; and sisters, Grace Smith and Noxie, Smith, both of Campbellsville, and Margie Johnson of Dayton, Ohio.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Services, Cincinnati.

Virginia Maud Miller Folks, 84, of Aberdeen, Ohio, formerly of Florence, died Sunday in Aberdeen.
Her husband, Earl Folks, died in 1989.
Survivors include a sister, Margie Gamon of Aberdeen.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Beaver Lick Christian Cemetery.
Stanley Gibson, 78, of Newport, died Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
Alyce "Ikey" Kemper, 74, of Owenton, died Sunday at Owenton Manor in Owenton.
She was an employee of Owen Electric Co. and was a member of Owenton First Christian Church.
Survivors include brothers, Harold Kemper and Buddy Kemper, both of Lexington, and R. F. Kemper of Versailles; and sisters, Lillian Curtis Martin and Peggy Thomas, both of Owenton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.

William Stephen Murphy, 73, of Louisville, died July 21 in Louisville.
He was a retired professional musician and a member of Disabled American Veterans and Lebanon Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include sons, Stephen R. Murphy of Villa Hills and Richard Murphy; daughters, Sandra Prater of Taylor Mill and Karen S. Malott of Elsmere; his mother and stepfather, Tressie and Lester Humphreys of Louisville; brothers, Julian D. Murphy of Louisville and Jerry R. Murphy of Lexington; a sister, Dorothy Harrell of Louisville; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Margie M. Pagan, 87, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Lakeside Health Care Center in Highland Heights.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, George Henry Pagan, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a friend, Daniel Losey of Fort Thomas, who cared for Mrs. Pagan for years.

Edna Roettger, 95, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Marion Roettger, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Day of Fort Thomas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pauline Sawyer, 68, of Burlington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Sawyer; sons, Michael Sawyer of Union and Kenneth Sawyer of Burlington; a daughter, Barbara Brock of Burlington; sisters, Julia Ann Runion and Joyce Evelyn Runion, both of Clay County; a brother, John Roberts of Fairfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Earl Allen Shobe, 89, of Florence, died Sunday at Florence Park Care Center.
He was a trainer with the U.S. Department of Labor and a member of Erlanger United Methodist Church. His wife, Isobell Shobe, died in 1994.
Survivors include a stepbrother-in-law, Arthur Smallwood of Middletown, Ohio.

He was an employee of Danzas-Aei Corp., Erlanger.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Yelton; daughters, Katie Yelton and Maggie Yelton, both of Bromley; a son, Roger Yelton of Bromley; his parents, Roger and Joyce Yelton, both of Elsmere; brothers, Robert Yelton of Cincinnati and Jamie Yelton of Bellevue; a sister, Jennifer Graham of Florence; and grandmother, Agnes Yelton of Erlanger.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
