Thomas Nutini, talented musician, business owner

Thomas Allen Nutini, 48, of Burlington, a talented musician and owner of a piano tuning and moving company, died Sunday of cardiac arrest.

Mr. Nutini, who played piano and guitar, was a much-sought after musician who fit in easily with other band members.

"He was one of those people who could play immediately with just about any band, " said Mr. Nutini's aunt, Mary Nutini. "He knew how to pick up on whatever type of music they were playing."

Although Mr. Nutini played all sorts of music, his personal favorite was country.

Early in his career he toured the country with the Mike Smith Band and was featured locally at Bobby Mackey's club in Wilder and at other night spots.

He also owned Nutini Tuning & Moving Co.

"He took piano tuning lessons and ran a very successful tuning and piano moving business, " said Ms. Nutini.

Mr. Nutini was a exceptionally compassionate person, said his aunt.

"He loved to help others, especially those who were having a hard time, " she said. "People always liked him. He had a neat personality. He was a nice person."

Survivors include a son, Lee Thomas Nutini of Cookeville, Tenn.; daughters, Brooke Anne Nutini and Brittany Blaine Nutini, both of Cookeville; and a sister, Barbara Nutini Hermecz of Fairhope, Ala.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington.

Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Tom Nutini Children's Education Fund, in care of any Huntington Bank.

Lillie Baker, 100, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

She was a homemaker and a member of Community Pentecostal Church, Independence. Her husband, John Monroe Baker, died Lillie Baker in 1949. Daughters, Edna Mitchell and Betty Simpson, and sons, Jack Baker and Gene Baker, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Dorothy N. Mullins of California and Barbara Wehrman of Covington; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Windsor Park Nursing Home, 2245 Park Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.

John G. Ball Jr., 83, of Worthville, died Monday at Owenton Manor. He was a farmer and a member of Dallasburg Baptist Church. His wife, Rose McNeal Reed Ball, and a son, Paul Wayne Ball, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Janet F. Monroe and Mary Rose King, both of Louisville; and a sister, Roberta Jones of New Liberty.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wheatley Masonic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Dallasburg Baptist Church, in care of the McDonald Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St., Owenton, Ky. 40359.

William D. Bardua, 57, of Covington, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Survivors include a sister, Arlene Kipling.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Jude Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Neidhard-Minges Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.

Virginia McGrath Bertram, 93, of Cold Spring, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary Ladies Society at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. She was a former booster with Bishop Brossart High School, Alexandria. Her husband, Elmer G. Bertram, died in 2000.

Survivors include daughters, Ginny Jordan of Cold Spring, Grace Roebel of Chicago, Mary Bertram of Fort Thomas and Kathy Markus of Alexandria; sons, Al Bertram, Bill Bertram and Mike Bertram, all of Cold Spring, Larry Bertram of California, Paul Bertram of Fort Thomas, Joe Bertram of Grants Lick and Elmer Bertram of Butler; 27 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorials are suggested to Bishop Brossart High School, 4 Grove St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001; or St. Joseph Church, 4011 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

John Herschel Hess, 90, of Alexandria, died at 1:40 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a past president of the Campbell County Farm Bureau, and a member of Kings and Queens and Sun Valley Seniors. His three wives, Mae Alford Hess, Margaret Chapel Hess and Emma Bachman Hess, died in 1972, 1978 and 1993, respectively.

Survivors include daughters, Lola Del Craig and Marilyn Gosney, both of Alexandria; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Boyce C. Ligon, 79, of Owenton, died Monday at Owenton Manor. He was a farmer and a member of South Fork Baptist Church, Owen County, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Jane Harrison Ligon, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sisters, Betty Ligon and Eleanor Ligon, both of Owenton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to South Fork Baptist Church or Salem Baptist Church, both in care of McDonald Funeral Home, 248 W. Seminary St., Owenton, Ky. 40359.

Edith E. Manning, 82, of Frankfort, formerly of Covington, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday at Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort. She was a retired railway clerk with Union Terminal, Cincinnati, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the first woman ever to be a dispatcher for a major railway and helped combine two segregated union lodges in Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Arnol Manning; a daughter, Melinda Carr of Frankfort; sons, Mark A. Manning of Seattle and David A. Manning of Cincinnati.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home, Frankfort, is handling arrangements.

Margaret McClanahan, 89, of Newport, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Louis V. McClanahan Sr., died in 1951.

Survivors include sons, Louis V. McClanahan Jr., Larry McClanahan, Jerry McClanahan and Robert McClanahan, all of Newport; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.

Charles Harvey McClane, 69, of Falmouth, died Monday at his home. He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Northern Kentucky Vocational School. His wife, Donna McClane, died in 1999.

Survivors include sons, Charles McClane and Don McClane, both of Newport, Jack McClane of Independence and James McClane of Falmouth; daughters, Joy Mosley of Falmouth, Barbara Hernandez of San Antonio, Mindy Wagner and Wendy McClane, both of Williamstown; stepsons, Tom Coffey and Jeff Coffey, both of Falmouth, and Randy Coffee of Silver Grove; a stepdaughter, Sandra Elliott of Williamstown; a brother, Lige McClane of Demossville; sisters, Mary McClane, Lula Bell Utz, Aleen Toll, Ruby Ducker and Tina Downard, all of Butler, Estella Gosney of Newport, and Fay Berydas and Martha McGaha, both of Louisville; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Johns Hill Cemetery, Wilder.

Olive M. Retschulte, 90, of Erlanger, died Monday at William Hughes Pavilion, Covington. She was a member of Florence Baptist Church. Her husband, Carl Retschulte, died in 1976.

Survivors include a niece, Mary Carol Burris of Frankfort.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Florence Baptist Church, 283 Main St., Florence, Ky. 41042.

Jack H. Root Sr., 85, of Fort Thomas, died at 9:47 a.m. Sunday at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin. He was a retired sales manager with Fisher Scientific Co., Indiana, Pa., and a member of Pioneer Campbell County Families. He was a former member of Highland Country Club, Fort Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Jaap Root; sons, Jack H. Root Jr. of Fort Thomas and Taylor H. Root of Minneapolis; a sister, Bettie Root Hesch of Fort Thomas; and a granddaughter.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Paul J. "Pally" Schlarman, 78, of Covington, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a foreman with Wiedemann Brewery. His wife, Evelynn Spanier Schlarman, died in 1984.

Survivors include daughters, Debbie Blanchet of Florence and Denise Chittum of Covington; a son, Doug Schlarman of Southgate; brothers, Jerry Schlarman of Florence, and Gene Schlarman of Latonia; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; or American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Edna M. Taulbee, 84, of Flemingsburg, died Tuesday at Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg.

She was a homemaker and a member of Church of God in Hazel Green. Her husband, Earl Taulbee, died in 1966. Sons, Danny Taulbee and Dwayne Taulbee, died in 1970 and 2000, respectively.

Survivors include sons, Dr. Arnold Taulbee of Beattyville and Paul Taulbee of Alexandria; daughters, Janet Boshears of Rose Hill, Va., Jenell Buchanan of Vanceburg and Dr. Jacqueline Hanson of Fort Thomas; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hazel Green Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

John W. Townsend, 30, of Richwood, died Monday at his home. He was a former machinist with BBS Tech.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Townsend, at home; sons, Jonathan Townsend, Dennis Townsend and Justin Townsend, all at home; his fiancee, Lisa McIntyre; sisters, Patsy Hiatt of Richwood and Linda Townsend of Florence; and brothers, Jack Townsend of Latonia, Owen Townsend of Dry Ridge, Danny Townsend of Gallatin County and Ronnie Townsend of Florence.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery. Reita Colbert Tumbleson, 85, of Owenton, died Tuesday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton. She was a factory worker.

Survivors include a son, Rondall Brock of Falmouth; a daughter, Gladys Springer of Owenton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.

Paul "Leroy" Wells, 67, of Covington, died Monday at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a self-employed electrician and an Army veteran.

Survivors include daughters, Peggy O'Rourke of Alexandria and Janice Wells of Covington; a son, Paul L. Wells Jr. of Maineville, Ohio; a sister, Bonnie Voss of Covington; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Johns Hill Cemetery, Wilder.

Glenn Wielgus, 42, of Burlington, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a maintenance mechanic with Delta Airlines.

Survivors include a son, Ryan Andrew Wielgus; a daughter, Jessica Vera Wielgus of Burlington; and brothers, Tom Wielgus of Seattle and Ray Wielgus of Polaski, Wis.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Union Presbyterian Church, Union. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to Union Presbyterian Church, 10259 U. S. 42, Union, Ky. 41091; or the charity of the donor's choice.

Anna "Jean" Williams, 81, of Highland Heights, died Monday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired cook with several local restaurants. Her husband, Andrew Williams, died in 1985.

Survivors include daughters, Carol Oldiges of Melbourne and Pat Williams of Southgate; a sister, Mary Lou Whitehead of Highland Heights; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Division, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042. Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights, is in charge of arrangements.

Dolores Wolfzorn, 70, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
