Harry Weber, 'taught lessons in overcoming adversity'

Harry P. Weber of Green Township, Ohio, was a World War II veteran and a businessman who taught his family a thing or two about hard work and commitment.

After a tornado destroyed the family home in April 1974 and a fire devastated his business in Cincinnati the following year, Mr. Weber set an example of how to persevere, said a son, Pat Weber of Delhi Township, Ohio.

It was a lesson that would stand for the younger Weber when, the very day of his father's death, a fire set off by a lightning strike damaged Pat Weber's family home in Cincinnati.

"He taught us lessons in overcoming adversity, " Pat Weber said.

Mr. Weber graduated from St. Xavier High School and Xavier University, both in Cincinnati.

During World War II, he was a technical sergeant meteorologist with the 18th Weather Squadron of the Army Air Corps. Initially stationed in Salinas, Calif., he gave weather forecasts to blimps scanning the California coastline in search of Japanese submarines. After he was transfered to Ipswich, England, he gave weather forecasts to superiors plotting bombing raids over Germany.

When Mr. Weber left the service, he returned to Cincinnati and joined his father at the Harry B. Weber Co. Restaurant Equipment and Supplies in Cincinnati.
