Andrew Janosick, did volunteer work

Friends say Andrew Janosick never met a stranger.

That's because whenever a new face popped into his life, Mr. Janosick could connect with the person on some level. That talent led him to a lifetime of volunteer work.

"He was just a very social person, " said his son, Tom Janosick, of Ft. Thomas. "If you needed a helping hand, he was the first to volunteer."

Andrew P. Janosick, 92, of Newport, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired assembler for Trailmobile in Cincinnati, a member of Corpus Christi Church in Newport and a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. His wife, Ellarose Janosick, died in 1985.

Mr. Janosick's introduction to volunteer work came in the late 1950s when his son Tom joined the Boy Scouts. The elder Janosick continued his service to the organization for the rest of his life; receiving the St. George award for volunteerism ranked as his proudest achievement in scouting, his son said.

Mr. Janosick was also a longtime supporter of the Corpus Christi Church Festival, which he worked on for more than 30 years.

Mr. Janosick was most devoted, however, to his family. Self-employed most of his working life, he always made enough to care for his family, even when work was scarce.

"He showed us how to arrange our priorities and first on that list was always family, " said Tom Janosick.

It was not uncommon for Janosick, even at 92, to drink with his sons until 2 or 3 a.m. at a local bar.

Mr. Janosick's love of people of people gave him something to live for, his son said. "I hope when I'm 90, I look as good as he did, " Tom Janosick said.
