Opal Dupin, retired school teacher

Opal Thomas Hunter Dupin was an elementary school teacher for 43 years in Clark County, Covington and Frankfort before retiring from Robert Johnson Elementary School in Fort Thomas.

"She really loved teaching and working with the kids, " said Mrs. Dupin's stepson, Tom Dupin of Silver Springs, Md. "After she retired, she continued to tutor children in reading for several years."

Mrs. Dupin, of Florence, died Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Covington and was a former Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Dupin was a member of the Congress of Parents and Teachers and the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association.

"She was a very giving person, " said Tom Dupin. "My father developed diabetes and she saw him through three operations.

"Her brother had a long-time disability and she nursed him. She took her friends wherever they needed to go, to doctor's appointments or to church. She was very active in church."

Mrs. Dupin also was a cheerful person, her stepson said.

"She liked to travel, both in the United States and Europe, " he said. "She remained very spry."Although she was 81, she recently was out mowing her lawn."

Her husbands, Herbert Hunter and Hubert Dupin, both preceded her in death.

Other survivors include a son, Herbert Hunter of San Jose, Calif.; a stepson, Terry Dupin of Cincinnati; a sister, Ethel Harper of Lexington; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort.

Robin Michelle Baldrick, 11, of Covington, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Brooksville when a trailer she was in was flipped by high winds.

She was a student at John G. Carlisle Elementary School, Covington.

Survivors include her father, Joseph Baldrick II, and his fiancee, Stacy Baughn, both of Covington; her mother, Angela Haley of Latonia; a sister, Sarah E. Baldrick of Covington; a brother, Joseph R. Baldrick III of Covington; the sons of Ms. Baughn, Tyler N. Baughn and Alexander L. Baughn, both of Covington; grandparents, Joseph and Danette Baldrick of Bellevue, Brenda Pitcher of Covington, and Tim and Linda Jett of Independence.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.

Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Catchen Funeral Home, 313 W. 19th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Jim Campbell, 52, of Williamstown, died at 7:27 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, on injuries suffered in an accident in Florence.

He was a assistant manager of the body shop of Piles Chevrolet Inc., Williamstown, and was a bass guitar player and singer with the band Smokin County.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Louden Campbell; daughters, Angela Kay Campbell of Corinth and Sheilah Rae Campbell of Williamstown; a son, Jayme H. Campbell of Williamstown; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Belleview Baptist Cemetery.

Dorothy E. Carr, 91, of Cincinnati, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at Marjorie P. Lee Nursing Home in Cincinnati.

She was a secretary with C. F. Devine Co. and a member of American Business Women's Association and Christ Cathedral Church, Cincinnati.

Survivors include a niece, June Langenhan of Stanford, Conn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to Vitas Hospice Care, 1132 W. Kemper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45240.

Pauline B. Gross, 79, of Erlanger, died June 26 at Village Care Center in Erlanger. She was a homemaker and a member of Fort Mitchell Baptist Church and Fort Mitchell Homemakers. Her husband, Henry L. Gross, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Gary L. Gross of Middletown, Ohio; and a brother, Ed Bramel of Fort Mitchell.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church. Cremation was at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to Book of Rememberance or Building Fund, Fort Mitchell Baptist Church, 2323 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017.

Dolores Ranft Hamberg, 83, of Fort Thomas, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday at her home.

She was a retired tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service, Covington, and a member of Siena Seniors and National Association of Federal Employees. Her husband, Norbert M. Hamberg, died in 1989.

Survivors include daughters, Terry Miller of Maineville, Ohio, and Jean Bauer of Healdsburg, Calif.; son, Martin Hamberg of Windsor, Calif.; brother, Richard Ranft of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Charles M. Lainhart, 69, of Covington, died Sunday at Irvine Health Care Center. He was a retired self-employed truck driver.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Carpenter of Sand Gap; a son, Charles Dewayne Lainhart of Berea; a sister, Hazel Abner of Dry Ridge; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 tonight at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Burlington.

John Francis McMillan, 79, of Alamo, Texas, formerly of Walton, died Sunday at Jewish Hospital Kenwood, Cincinnati.

He was a retired supervisor with General Electric Jet Engine Plant, Cincinnati, and a member of Goshen Christian Church and Fiskburg Masonic Lodge, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Callen McMillan of Alamo; a daughter, Sandy Foley of Decatur, Ill.; a son, Ed McMillan of Villa Hills; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Angelina "Angie" Marie Russell McPhearson, 28, of Covington, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Brooksville when a trailer she was in was flipped by high winds. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Frenchie McPhearson; daughters, Brittni Mason and Luanna Beyersdorfer, both of Covington; a sister, Christina Russell of Brooksville; her mother and stepfather, Cindy and Gillis Taylor of California; her father and stepmother, Terry Russell Sr. and Shirley Russell of Verona; brothers, Terry Russell Jr. and Joey Young, both of Covington; and grandparents, James Steinhauer of California and Flossie Russell of Warsaw.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Louise Miller, 97, of Ludlow, died Monday at Kenwood Terrace Care Center, Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Hazel Bowen Moore, of Elsmere, died at 6 a.m. Monday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere.

She was a retired nurse's aide with Booth and St. Elizabeth hospitals, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Her husband, William Moore, died in 1992. A son, Kenneth Wingate, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Bird of Richmond, Va.; brothers, Fred Bowen of Owensboro and Rex Bowen Jr. of Sun City, Ariz.; sisters, Maewood Leachman and Norine Westerfield, both of Owensboro, Nancy Kelley of Tucker, Ga., and Georgia Bowen of Los Angeles; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Ethella Buckler Moran, 79, of Sardis, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

She was a retired nurse aide with Maysville Extended Care Center and a member of Sardis Christian Church. Her husband, Billy Moran, died in 1992. A daughter, Diana Stitt, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie Gifford of Sardis; daughters, Brenda Stitt of Mays Lick, Joyce Thackston of Washington and Glenda Curtis of Sardis; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation is from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.

Mary E. Plymesser, 95, of Covington, died at 7:33 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

She was a retired housekeeper with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. A daughter, Virginia Burney, died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Emily E. Baynum of Covington; three grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandson.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Guy M. Roberts, 77, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a detective with L&N; Railroad and a founding member of Northern Kentucky Church of Christ, Florence.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Roberts; a son, Jeffery Roberts of Fort Wright; daughters, Karen Cusentino and Susan Koester, both of Edgewood; brothers, George Roberts of Erlanger, John Roberts of West Carrollton, Ohio, and Bill Roberts of Ashland, Ohio; a sister, Jean Owens of Eubanks; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Lawrence E. Ulrich, 72, of Newport, died Monday at his home. He was a truck driver with Keebler Cookie Co., a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 114 and Newport Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Ulrich; daughters, Michelle Colangelo of Florence, Vickie Henderson of Newport, Donna Lowery and Melody Miller, both of Covington; sons, Melvin Ulrich and Richard Ulrich, both of Newport; a sister, Vivian Meyers of Covington; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Florence Winder, 100, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
