Ruth Abdon, waitress and 'people person'
Ruth Laverne Abdon, longtime waitress in Northern Kentucky restaurants, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East after a long battle with cancer. She was 68.
Mrs. Abdon, of Demossville, worked at Dixie Chili in Erlanger in the early 1960s, and was a carhop waitress and later manager at Frisch's in Erlanger in the 1960s and '70s.
She also worked at White Castle on Main Street in Covington and retired from the Payton Place restaurant in Newport in the late 1980s.
"She was a people person and loved by many, " said her daughter, Patty Abdon. "Most people called her mom."
She had been ill for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Lynn McFarland of Erlanger, Sherry Puckett of Glencoe, Donna McDaniel of Taylor Mill, Amy Anderson of Walton and Patty Abdon of Covington; son, Ray Abdon of Fiskburg; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will be in Baxter Cremation Co., Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Wendon Virgil Anderson, 81, of Florence, died at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Findlay, Ohio.
He was a retired truck driver for Eagle Express and a member of Teamsters Local No. 100.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Anderson of Erlanger; daughters, Tamara Moore of Florence and Sandra Price of Springfield Township, Ohio; stepdaughters, Peg Curey and Pat Finke, both of Florence; sisters, Betty Fifield and Ardis Anderson, both of Utah; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
Alica A. Bacher, 84, of Cincinnati, died Friday at Vitas Hospice, Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired waitress. Her husband, Leroy Bacher, died in 1967.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Dunahoo of Beattyville.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to The Residence, 2420 Harrison Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45211.
Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling the arrangements.
Joshua Lee Combs, 18, of Owen County, died Thursday in an auto accident in Owenton. He was a 2001 graduate of Owen County High School where he was a member of the football team and student government, and was a member of New Columbus Baptist Church, Owenton.
Survivors include his parents, John and Darla Combs, both of Owen County; and brothers, John Combs Jr. of Owen County, Joel Combs of Pine Knott and Ronald Paul Cooper of Lexington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Owen County High School Gym. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Pine Knott. Lucille F. Fischer, 87, of St. Charles Village in Covington, died at 3:35 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Larry Ray Fleming, 62, of Williamsburg, Ohio, died Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio. He was a carpenter for O'Dell Construction and a member of Eastgate Baptist Church, Eastgate, Ohio.
Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Fleming of Williamsburg, Ohio; sons, Robert Wittmeyer and Michael Wittmeyer, both of Eastgate Ohio; brother, William Nehring of Independence; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Eastgate Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services today at the church. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling the arrangements.
Gilbert D. Herzog, 73, of Williamstown, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a retired machinist for Formica Corp., Evendale, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Nix Herzog of Williamstown; son, Navy Petty Officer First Class David J. Herzog of Philadelphia.; daughters, Diane Garnett and Paula Knecht, both of Cincinnati; brothers, Edward Herzog of Reading, Ohio, and James Herzog of Shreveport, La.; sister, Katherine Jordan of Strongsville, Ohio; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanely Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Harry James Johnson Jr., 81, of Bowling Green and formerly of Fort Mitchell, died at 8 a.m. Friday at Rosewood Health Care Center, Bowling Green. He was a retired salesman for Gardner Mirror Corp., North Wil kesboro, N.C., a sales manager of F.H. Lawson Company, Cincinnati, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington, Colonel Clay Masonic Lodge No. 109, and the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include Elaine Wallace Johnson of Bowling Green; daughter, Sally Brown of Bowling Green; sisters, Martha O'Leary and Rosemary Tigner, both of Cincinnati; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Kenneth E. McMillan, 69, of West Covington, died Tuesday at his home.
He was a dock worker for Continental Bakery and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Crestview Hills.
Survivors include his brother, Richard W. McMillan of Cincinnati.

Margaret Hickman Stout Tackett, 74, of Splendora, Texas, and formerly of Germantown, died Friday in Splendora. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Rans Tackett, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Richard Lee Stout of Colorado; daughters, Mildred Eileen Stanley of Maysville, Patricia Burke of Splendora and Mary Ann Shepherd of Marion, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wrights Chapel, Lewis County. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Burial will be in Skidmore Cemetery, Lewis County.
Angie K. Hines Whitaker, 31, of Charlotte, N.C., and formerly of Florence, died Thursday in an auto accident in Charlotte.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Junior Wolf, 71, of Grants Lick, died Thursday at his home. He was a farmer, a custodian at Grants Lick Elementary, a bus driver for the Campbell County Board of Education, a member of Plum Creek Christian Church, Butler, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Green Wolf of Grants Lick; son, Tim Wolf of Grants Lick; daughter, Sherry Brown of Grants Lick; brother, J.D. Wolf of Versailles; sister, Janet Herbst of Richmond; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Plum Creek Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Plum Creek Cemetery, Butler. Memorials are suggested to Plum Creek Christian Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 292, Butler, Ky. 41006.
Pearl Worley, 92, formerly of Alexandria, died at 9:40 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Everett Worley, died in 1951, and her sons, Ralph Worley Sr., died in 1996, and Robert Worley, died in 2000.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Bryant of Independence; stepdaughters, Aretha Hurd of Sparta, Tenn., and Edith Mills of Booker, Texas; sisters, Inez Higgins of Colutta, Ga., and Annie Cisson and Frances Bank ston, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; brother, William Farmer of Greenville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon today at First Baptist Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services today at the church. Burial will be in First Baptist Church of Cold Spring Cemetery.
