MRS. SARAH BROOKHART
DIED AT KAHOKA FRIDAY

Mrs. Sarah M. Brookhart of Memphis died at 10 p.m., Friday, April 9 in the Ward nursing home at Kahoka where she had been a patient since September.

She was born May 8, 1866 in Schuyler county, Mo. She was the daughter of Ed and Jane Minnicks Manning. Her husband, Sylvester Brookhart died August 11, 19301.

She was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist church.

Surviving are a son, Ed, of Gibbs, Mo., three daughters, Mrs. Opal Stockey of Gibbs and Mrs. Hubert Green and Mrs. Louie Harker of Memphis, ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Gerth & Baskett chapel Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rev. H. R. Tutom, pastor of the Memphis Baptist church officiating. Burial in the Memphis cemetery.

BROOKHART OBITUARY

Sylvester W. Brookhart was born September 27, 1858. Died at his home on Grand Avenue, Memphis, Mo., April 11, 1930, aged 71 years, 7 months, 16 days.

He was married to Miss Lydia Barrows, November 20, 1879. Three children were born, two died in infancy. The daughter, Mrs. Eva Henderson, resides at Glenwood, Mo. The wife died April 6, 1884. On October 9, 1884, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah M. Manning, who survives. Four children were born, all of whom are living. The son, Ed Brookhart, at Wyaconda, Mo., daughters, Mrs. Ruby Harker, Mrs. Okla Green, and Mrs. Opal Evans of Memphis, Mo.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and burial in Memphis cemetery, Rev. C. K. Green in charge.

Alfred Bryant

MONTROSE - A funeral for Alfred H. Bryant, 71, of Montrose, who died Sunday at his home, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the DeJong Funeral Home in Keokuk with the brobill Hauser officiating.

Burial will be in the Campgrounds cemetery in Memphis, Mo.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Relatives will meet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

He was born May 9, 1908, the son of Walter and Ethel Converse Bryant. He married Blanch Virginia Hatfield in 1926.

He was a painter and was employed by the Hubinger Company for 17 years. He was a member of the Hubinger credit union and the labor union.

Survivors include his wife, Blanch; sons Leonard of Montrose, Richard of Keokuk and William of Argyle; brother Riley of Keokuk; brothers-in-law Vearl McComb of Croton and Carl Hatfield of Council, Idaho; sisters-in-law Letha Simmons, Maxine Beuhl and Leota Gripp, all of Davenport; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and a son.

Ambrose Bryant, of Harmony township, one of the oldest residents of Hancock county, died on Wednesday last, and was followed to the grave on Thursday by a large concourse of his neighbors and friends. His age was not far from 65. We have no data of Mr. Bryant’s history. He was a resident of this county in 1840, and probably some years prior. His reputation was that of a most excellent man and citizen.

--- Yesterday afternoon Thos. F. Bryant and Miss Angelia Patterson, both of near Bible Grove, were united in marriage at Jackson's store in this city, Squire C. F. Sanders pronouncing the words that made them man and wife. Jackson's store has been the scene of a number of weddings the past year.

BURIAL OF MRS. FRANK BRYANT

At Greensburg Saturday---Had Lived Near Fabius 45 Years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Bryant of near Fabius, who died at 1:30 o’clock last Thursday morning at the Gibson Hospital in Edina, were conducted at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Christian Church in Greensburg by the Rev. J. Dan Moore. Burial was in the cemetery near by.

Mrs. Bryant had not been well for several years but she became seriously ill Dec. 4 and was taken to the hospital where death came. She was 68 years old and had been a resident near Fabius in Benton township for the last forty-five years.

Besides her husband there survive a son, Thomas Arthur Bryant; a brother, Harrison Patterson; a half sister, Mrs. Roy Wright, of Newberg, Mo., and a half brother, Earl Patterson, of Rockford, Ill. There are also six grandchildren.

As Angelia Patterson, a daughter of Benton and Jane Young Patterson, Mrs. Bryant was born Apr. 15, 1878, near La Harpe, Hancock County, Ill. At the age of 5 years she came with her parents to Missouri. They settled near Bible Grove in Scotland County, where she grew to young womanhood. In early life she joined the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, of which she remained a member.

She and Thomas Francis Bryant were married May 15, 1897. To them were born two sons, one of whom, Francis Claud, preceded his mother in death.

Those who attended the funeral services from away from here were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Klodt and daughters, Margaret and Patty Jo, and son, George, of Maquon, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Patterson and sons, Elmer and Bobby, of Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wright and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Wright, of Newberg, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Will Bryant, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Riley Bryant and Vernon Bryant and Mrs. Ethel Bryant and family of Keokuk, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bryant and son, Dale [Dale is wrong. Paul is correct], of Memphis and Alfred Smith of Cherry Box.

Blanche Virginia Bryant

June 25, 1907 - March 25, 2000

MONTROSE - Blanche V. Bryant, 92, of Montrose, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at the Montrose Health Care Center in Montrose.

She was born on June 25, 1907, in Memphis, Mo., the daughter of Robert Edgur and Bertha Vernia Paris Hatfield. She married Alfred Bryant on Dec.10, 1925, in Memphis, Mo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1980.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard G. Bryant and his wife, Barbara, of Keokuk and William H. "Sonny" Bryant of Montrose; two sisters, Vearl MaComb of Croton and Bessie Kite of Farmington; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Eugene Bryant in infancy and Leonard Luther Bryant; four brothers, Ray, Gale, Edgur and Carl; and three sisters, Letha, Midget and Maxine.

Mrs. Bryant had been a resident of the Montrose area since the mid 1930s.

She loved raising her children and was a mother to half the neighborhood. She also enjoyed sewing.

Mrs. Bryant was baptized in the First Christian Church.

Graveside services were today at the Campground Cemetery, Downing, Mo., with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.

Visitation was Sunday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk.

Memorials may be made to the Campground Cemetery, Downing, or the New Testament Christian Church, Keokuk.
