John Keathley, firefighter, Knothole coach
John H. Keathley was a Covington firefighter whose passion was helping people through sports.
Whether as a player, coach or cheerleader, Mr. Keathley believed in having fun, said his wife, Nancy Walz Keathley.
"He loved sports and trying to get other people to enjoy it and do their best at it, " she said.
Mr. Keathley, 48, of Villa Hills, died of cancer at 11:52 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.
He was a retired firefighter and emergency medical technician with the city of Covington, a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lakeside Park, a softball coach in Kentucky and Ohio, and a Knothole baseball coach.
Mr. Keathley was a firefighter for more than 12 years before his illness forced him to retire, his wife said.
He also enjoyed his family, she said. "We liked to hike and travel. And he was an excellent father. He was very involved in his children's lives."
Other survivors include two sons, John H. Keathley III and Daniel J. Keathley, both at home; his father, William Keathley of Maysville; and a brother, Robert Keathley of Covington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be there from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Care Center, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, Ky. 41017.
Danny R. Arnett II, 16, of Union, died Monday off Frontage Road in Union of injuries suffered in an auto accident.
He was a sophomore at Ryle High School, where he played football. His mother, Ronda M. Arnett, died on Jan. 25.
Survivors include his father, Dan R. Arnett Sr. of Union; a sister, Jessica Arnett of Union; and grandparents, John and Elda Chestnut of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Holt Family Cemetery, Independence.

Cora Helen Baker, 84, of Newport, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Seventh Day Adventist Church, Covington.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Baker of Newport; a son, James Allen Seward of Covington; a sister, Rose Martz of Cold Spring; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Robert H. Gripshover, 74, of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
He was a member of St. Barbara Church, Erlanger.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Gripshover; daughters, Ginger Michel of Villa Hills and Julie Gripshover of Union; a son, Richard Gripshover of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sistes, Betty Cavanaugh of Independence, Mary Requardt of Covington and Agnes Adams of Morning View; a brother, Paul Gripshover of Verona; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Barbara Church. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Dorothy A. Hambrick, 80, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a bookkeeper with Dempsey Liquor and a member of Florence United Methodist Church and Boone County Quilters. Her husband, Lehman Hambrick, died in 1983.
Survivors include daughters, Kay Garnett of Walton and Kim Kearns of Florence; sons, Bobby Hambrick and Jon Hambrick, both of Florence; brothers, Robert Laile and Marvin Laile, both of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Florence Cemetery.

William Hunter, 66, of Cincinnati, died at 11 a.m. Monday at Anderson Mercy Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a retired national manager for the computer help desk with General Electric Aircraft in Cincinnati and a member of New Thought Unity Temple in Cincinnati.
He also was a member of the General Electric Elfun Society and Covington Moose Lodge No. 1469 and mentored seventh- and eighth-graders in the Princeton School District.
Survivors include his wife, Ronda A. DuVall Hunter; a son, Steve Hunter of Cincinnati; daughters, Kathy Reed and Penny Ostrow, both of Cincinnati, and Samantha Bradley of Colleyville, Texas; a brother, Bob Hunter of Cincinnati; a sister, JoAnn Knecht of Dennison, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Cincinnati Cremation Co.

Virginia E. Findley Moore, 91, of Dayton, died Monday at Lakeside Heath Care Center, Highland Heights.
She was a baker with Lings Bakery and a member of St. Bernard Church in Dayton and Kersten O'Day VFW Auxiliary Drill Team. Her husband, Clarence Moore, and a daughter, Carole Schreiber, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie Steltenpohl of Cold Spring; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Ama Slayback Munday, 91, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Florence, died Tuesday in Myrtle Beach.

Kenneth Ray O'Brien, 59, of Maysville, died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday at his home.
He was a retired employee of the Black River Mine Co. and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Jo O'Brien; a son, Michael O'Brien of Brooksville; a daughter, LeAnn Thorpe of South Haven, Mich.; a stepson, William Messing IV of Maysville; stepdaughters, Valerie Blythe and Michelle Collins, both of Maysville; his mother, Garnett McQuilin of Foster; a brother, Larry O'Brien of Silver Grove; a sister, Margie Appleman of Germantown; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Johnsville Cemetery, Foster.
Tristin Micheal Saye Perkins, 1 day, son of Bobby Perkins and Jacqueline Souder, both of Williamstown, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Other survivors include brothers, Tylor Souder, Tanner Souder, Brent Perkins, Derek Perkins and Matthew Perkins, all of Williamstown; a sister, Taylor Souder of Williamstown; grandparents, Thelma Hundley of Dry Ridge and Donald Sawyers of Hamilton, Ohio, Butch Perkins of Corinth and Rose Holland of Crittenden; and great-grandparents, L. D. Sawyers and Dorothy Hundley, both of Hamilton, and Julia Morgan of Crittenden; and great-great-grandfather, George Morgan of Hamilton.

Calvin Shaw, 64, of Morning View, died Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
He was a custodian with Xavier University, Cincinnati, and a member of Staffordsburg United Methodist Church, Independence.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Sue Brueggen Shaw; daughters, Cathy Shaw Altman of Shallotte, N.C., Judy Shaw Folsom of Hampstead, N.C., Jennifer Shaw Quinn and Sandra Shaw Brown, both of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; a son, Chris L. Shaw of Independence; sisters, Robbie Sipple of Williamstown, Dorothy Sanders of Hebron, Carrie Shaw of Independence, Ruth Wilson of Florence and Cecil Shaw of Burkesville; brothers, Chester Shaw of Covington, Ken Shaw of Visalia, and Joe Shaw, Junior Shaw and Robert Shaw, all of Independence; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
