Keith Seifried, started business despite illness
A 31-year-old Edgewood man succumbed to the rheumatic disease he'd been fighting for eight years, but not before founding his own company.
Keith Seifried was diagnosed with systemic sclerosis cq, a rare, chronic disease that hardens connective tissue and internal organs, about eight years ago. More recently, he developed lymphoma, cancer of the lymphatic system. He died of complications from his illnesses at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South on Sunday afternoon.
His disease left him tired and often in pain, and he was particularly sensitive to cold weather, said his mother, Marlene Brink of Burlington. Even in the summer months, office air conditioning could be too much for him to bear.
But Mr. Seifried, a computer programmer who graduated from Northern Kentucky University, wanted to keep working, so he founded his own company: 1213 Inc., of Edgewood. Working at his own pace, he did freelance work for different high-tech firms in Greater Cincinnati, she said.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Seifried also is survived by his father, Mark Seifried of Edgewood; a brother, Brent Seifried, and sister-in-law, Annette Seifried of Burlington, and his grandparents, John and Emma Seifried of Fort Mitchell.
