Paul Haley, conductor, motorcycle enthusiast

Paul H. Haley of Taylor Mill was a conductor with the CSX Railroad - but he was best known as a motorcycle enthusiast.

"That was his claim to fame, " said a daughter, Paula H. Allphin of Covington.

Mr. Haley was a retired member and former treasurer of the Seven Sons Motorcycle Club.

His bike?

"A Harley-Davidson, of course, " Ms. Allphin said.

"He rode motorcycles for as long as I can remember, and I was born in 1966.

"Everybody loved him, " she said. "He was the life of the party and a very generous person."

Mr. Haley died in a single-car accident Sunday evening in Taylor Mill. He was 54.

Mr. Haley, a native of Northern Kentucky, worked more than 20 years for the railroad. Before that, he was a machinist for more than 10 years with the Carlton Machine Tool Co. in Cincinnati.

Mr. Haley was a deacon at the Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington.

He also was a member of the Covington/Taylor Mill Loyal Order of Moose and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen AFL-CIO.

Besides Ms. Allphin, Mr. Haley is survived by a daughter, Shari Haley of Covington; his parents, Paul E. Haley and Alma Miller Haley of Independence; and a sister, Margaret H. Chandler of Williamstown.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home in Taylor Mill.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Mausoleum in Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to the Madison Avenue Christian Church, 1530 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky., 41011; or the American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45219.

Celeste M. Fobbe Castelli, 56 of Park Hills, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at Hospice of Blue Ash, Cincinnati. She was a research associate with Procter & Gamble.

Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Castelli; sons, Joseph R. Castelli and Robert W. Castelli, both of Cincinnati; her father, William H. Fobbe of Fort Wright; sisters, Willa A. Schuette of Fort Mitchell and Louise Diegnueller of Cary, N.C.; and one granddaughter.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Katherine Faulkner, 67, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a private practical nurse.

Survivors include her husband, William Faulkner; daughters, Kathy Jo Pullian of Florence, Joy Sortor of Hartsell, Ala., Lisa Wilde of Villa Hills, Peggy Mulligan of Elsmere, Jodi Faulkner of Burlington and Tricia Faulkner of Dry Ridge; sons, Dale Lyons of Florence, Doug Faulkner of Southern Pines, N.C., and Kenneth Lyons of Elsmere; brothers, Edward Sowder of Falmouth and Byron Sowder of Falmouth; a sister, Dorothy Neville of Texas; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Arthritis Foundation, 7811 Laurel Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.

Paul Holden, 69, of Kenton, died Tuesday at his home.

He was a retired carpenter with Carpenter's Union Local No. 2, and a member of Morning View United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Kenton Volunteer Fire Department and a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie Holden; a stepdaughter, Deborah Richards of Charlottesville, Va.; sons, Bernie Holden of Idaho, Paul Vincent Holden Jr. of Los Angeles and David Holden of Indio, Calif.; sisters, Geni Blakely and JoAnn Wieble, both of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Leona Dyer of Brownsville, Texas, and Wilma Smith of Idaho; brothers, Wayne Holden of Mountain View, Ark., Norman Holden of Morning View and Thomas Holden of Oak Harbor; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Pamela C. Strassburger Houston, 51, of Edgewood, died Monday in Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a former biochemist with Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Eldon Houston; her father, Lawrence L. Strassburger of Edgewood; and a sister, Paula K. Rust of Covington.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Children's Hospital Development Office, Second Floor, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45229; or Alliance for Lupus Research, 1270 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 609, New York, N.Y. 10020.

Laura Marie Johnting, 88, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. She was a seamstress and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Falmouth. Her husband, Leo Johnting, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Albert Johnting of Falmouth, Lawrence Johnting of Morning View and David Johnting of Butler; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. today at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Reis Ostendorf, 85, of Erlanger, died Monday at Villa Spring Care Center in Erlanger. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son, Bear Reis of Walton; daughters, Mary Lou Mescher of Villa Hills, Joan Perros of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Dallas Reis of Erlanger; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Entombment will be at St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Lillian Meyer Prickett, 89, of Union, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Timothy Church, Union, and St. Clara Auxiliary No. 98, Cincinnati. She was a past president of the Gemma Guild and St. Gambiel Shield.

Survivors include nephews, Jan Prickett of Erlanger and Gilbert Mueller of Cincinnati; and a niece, Nancy Hemmelgarn of New Paris, Ohio.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Timothy Church, Union. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to National Audubon Society, 700 Broadway, Dept. W, New York, N.Y. 10003; or Passionist Nuns, 1151 Donaldson Highway, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Mildred K. Benedict Sporing, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. She was a saleswoman with Pogue's Department Store, Cincinnati, and a member of Order of the Easter Star Alexandria Chapter. A daughter, Myrna K. Reed, and son, Dennis Sporing, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Victor R. Sporing; a brother, Harold Benedict of Highland Heights; sisters, Thelma Boden of Butler and Lucille Weihe of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to River Valley Nursing Home Resident Council, P. O. Box 402, Butler, Ky. 41006; or the charity of the donor's choice. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Kathryn Toni Wedderstrand Voelker, 31, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Billy Leon Wells, 82, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at his home. He was a model maker with Cincinnati Electronics, a deacon with Roanoke Christian Church and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Wells; sons, Billy Leon Wells Jr. of Florence and Gregory Lee Wells of Williamstown; a brother, Roscoe Wells of Lexington; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45219.
