Edith Pagan, guided children's successes
Edith M. Pagan was an intelligent, self-reliant woman who lived life at full throttle, even in her later years.
Even after losing her sight about five years ago, she insisted on living on her own.
"She was a very independent woman, a very smart lady, " said her son, Wally Pagan, a former Covington city manager, former executive director for Kenton-Boone Cable TV Board and current executive director for SouthBank Partners.
"She was a real driving force, " Mr. Pagan says. "Whatever success I've had I can attribute to her."
Mrs. Pagan, 88, of Bellevue, died Saturday at her home.
She owned Pagan Food Shop in Bellevue from 1960 until 1965. More important to Mr. Pagan, however, was that his mother and father were always available for their children.
"We were just a moderate family, but my mom and my dad were always part of the family. They were always there when I needed them, " Mr. Pagan said.
Mrs. Pagan was extremely involved in whatever her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were were doing, from Little League baseball to high school football.
"She was always part and parcel of all their activities, " her son said.
Her favorite leisure activity was gaming, he said. "She loved to go on the boats and really have a good time."
Her husband, Walter B. Pagan, died in 1996.
In addition to her son, of Wilder, survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Hebel of Bellevue; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Ruth Dixon, 66, of Latonia, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Rev. William Eaves, 59, of Carrollton, died Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Louisville.
He was a minister with Louisville Camp Taylor Church and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his mother, Marietta Ralston of Frankfort; a sister, Linda Moore of Mount Sterling; and a brother, Dennis Eaves of Mount Sterling.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Irene Frisch Feldhues, 81, of Fort Mitchell, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at her home.
She was a retired owner of Feldhues Meats, Cincinnati, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell and St. Mary's Ladies Society there. Her husband, Elmer Feldhues, died in 1974.
Survivors include daughters, Jeanne Feldhues of Fort Mitchell, Marg Theurer of Covington, Rose Bitsoff of Cincinnati and Linda Feldhues of Florence; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

William Harris, 68, of Cincinnati and formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday at Vista Care Hospice, Cincinnati.

Chester Jent, 71, of Covington, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday at his home.
He was a retired coal miner. His wife, Betty Jo Jent, died in 1985.
Survivors include daughters, Joyce Buschard of Newport, Judy Jent of Walton and Rose Ehlman of Covington; sons, James Jent and Sammy Jent, both of Southgate, Kenneth Jent of Covington, Estel Jent and Danny Jent, both of Bellevue, Chester Jent Jr. of Norwood, Ohio, and Victor Jent of Bloomingdale, Mich.; 32 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Rita Mae Menke, 80, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was an executive secretary with Standard Oil Co. and BP, and a member of St. Benedict Church, Covington.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. Richard Menke of Sarasota, Fla., and a sister, Mary Ruth Menke of Covington.
Rita Menke Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Benedict Church. Burial was in Old St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Alice Brumback Popham, 91, of Williamstown, died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday at her daughter's home in Florence.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fairview Christian Church, Williamstown, and Daughters of America. Her husband, Ronald V. Popham, died in 1990. A son, Ronald Dale Popham, died in 1986.
Survivors include daughters, Myrtie Ellen Gordon of Lexington and Mary Alice Raisor of Florence; a son, Argust Nelson Popham of Williamstown; sisters, Edna McClanahan and Edith Doyle, both of Williamstown; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Jennifer Kristen Campbell Stratton, 28, of Elsmere, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Anne Elizabeth Darke Weathers, 87, of Lakeside Park, died Saturday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.
She was a homemaker and a member of Petrie Memorial United Methodist Church in Elkton. She was a member of the church's United Women's Methodist Society and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was a former Todd County, Ky., treasurer and secretary with Todd County High School, was a bookkeeper with the City of Elkton and was a real estate broker. Her husband, William M. Weathers, died in 2000.
Survivors include a son, William M. Weathers Jr. of Lakeside Park; a sister, Helen Ruth Carneal of Springfield, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Latham Funeral Home, Elkton. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Elkton.

She was a retired customer service worker with American Book Co., Florence, a volunteer dispatcher with Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens, and a volunteer with Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
Survivors include a son, Michael Welch of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter, Nancy Loyal of Kenton Hills; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
