William Green, racer, owner of trucking firm
William E. Green of Walton owned a trucking company, served as a Kenton County constable and raced cars.
"My dad is one of the few local racers that got to race in NASCAR (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) races, " said a son, Willie Green of Walton, himself a racer.
"He was 1977 ARCA Rookie of the Year. He competed in NASCAR and he raced in the ARCA series, winning 15 to 20 major races.
"He was very outgoing and ambitious, " said Willie Green. "The word "can't' wasn't in his vocabulary."
Willie Green's brother, Brandon Green of Walton, also races.
"Our father left a racing legacy in our family, " said Willie Green.
William E. Green died Tuesday night at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was 56.
Mr. Green was born and reared in Latonia, where he owned the Bill Green Trucking Co. for 30 years. The company had 50 trucks and 75 employees.
After Mr. Green retired in 1997, he decided to run for Kenton County constable.
Constables generally spend their time serving court papers, but have arrest powers.
"His health was getting bad, and he wanted to be of some service to the public, so he figured that was his contribution, " said Willie Green.
Mr. Green was a member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 345 F&AM in Covington.
He also was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Covington.
A son, Brian Green, died in 1980.
Besides Willie and Brandon Green, survivors include William Green's wife, Frances Green; daughters, Constance Overbay, Tonya Knight and Angela Hughes, all of Walton; his mother, Rose Helen Green of Latonia; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Catchen Funeral Home in Elsmere.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Masonic services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Erlanger.

Mary Jane Clay, 79, of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at her home.
She was an office worker with Nutone Inc., Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Clay; a daughter, Kathy Palmer of Crescent Springs; a son, Mike Tierney of Florence; a sister, Helen Cullen of Cincinnati; a brother, Bill McNamara of Erlanger; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Church, 2415 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Hilma Edwards, 80, of Covington, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Christopher Red Embry, 68, of Hebron, died at 3:28 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired laborer with Cincinnati Union Stockyards.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra Wright of Burlington; sons, Larry Embry and Daryl Embry, both of Covington, and Dale Embry of Cincinnati; brothers, Jake Smith of Berea and Paul Embree of Owenton; sisters, Vernie Watkins of Berea, Shirley Easley of Campbellsville and Madalyne Embree of McKee; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.
Mitchell A. Hall, 87, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was owner of Monarch Tool and Manufacturing Co., Covington, and was an inventor with more than 45 patents to his name.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hall; daughters, Michele Hall of Fort Thomas, Stephanie Hall of Park Hills and Christine Liebelt-Pope of Homosassa Springs, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
John Michael Jones, 44, of Highland Heights, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a dispatcher with Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, and a member of the Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Jones of Highland Heights; his father, Paul Jones of Ludlow; a sister, Paula Jones of Bromley; and a brother, David Jones of Mississippi.

Ruth V. Koenig, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday at Deupree Health Center, Cincinnati.

Douglas A. Linz, 41, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a loan underwriter with Provident Bank and Huntington Bank, and a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Cleves Linz; a son, Brian A. Linz of Erlanger; a daughter, Rachael E. Linz of Erlanger; his parents, Melvin R. and Marilyn C. Linz of Cincinnati; and a brother, David R. Linz of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. John J. Torrey, 76, of Dayton, died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a clerk with Klingenberg Hardware, Newport and Dayton, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda P. Torrey; sons, John Torrey Jr. and Mark Torrey, both of Houlton, Maine; stepsons, Charles Casson of Bellevue, Garry Casson of Taylor Mill, Peter Greene of Gorham, Maine, Tim Greene of Louisville and Dick Greene of Georgetown; daughters, Cathy Torrey and Melissa Bither, both of Houlton; stepdaughters, Louise Chayer of Cincinnati, Donna Carter of Cold Spring and Kim Greene of Louisville; a brother, Raymond Torrey of Hendersonville; sisters, Dorothy "Sis" Schweigert of Southgate and Mary Claire Torrey of Ocala, Fla.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean Marie Wynn, 73, of London, died Monday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. She was a homemaker and a member of Hart Baptist Church. Her husband, William Wynn, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Emma Krebs of Covington and Peggy Schmidth of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; sons, George Wynn of London, Lloyd Wynn of Charleston, W.Va., and Robert Wynn of Middlesboro; sisters, Rosie Eversole of Louisville and Betty Johnson of Franklin, Ohio; brothers, Bo Grant of Pittsburg, Floyd Grant of Walton, Charlie Grant of Florence and David Grant of London; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday at Bowling Funeral Home, London. Burial was in Earl Bowling Cemetery, East Bernstadt.
Virginia J. Ziegenhardt, 88, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin Ziegenhardt; a son, Edwin F. Ziegenhardt of Cincinnati; daughters, Carol A. Riddle and Holly K. Ziegenhardt, both of Cold Spring; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
