Pat Curry, former Dry Ridge mayor, police and fire chief

Pat Curry extended plenty of people credit when he owned Rural Truck Parts in Dry Ridge.

A lot of times, people didn't have money to pay, but that wasn't an issue to him, said his son Kerry Curry. "He was always wanting to help people."

That was illustrated in Pat Curry's public service. He was a former mayor, chief of police and fire chief in Dry Ridge.

"He served the community and helped the community, " his son said.

Donald "Pat" Curry, 74, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

He was founder of Rural Truck Parts, Dry Ridge, and a founder of the Dry Ridge Fire Department. He was a member of Sherman Baptist Church in Dry Ridge, Dry Ridge Masonic Lodge No. 849 and the Northern Kentucky Gas and Steam Engine Club. He was a Grant County conservation officer, a former president of the Grant County Library Board and a Navy veteran of World War II.

"He never knew a stranger. He could strike a conversation up with anybody. He had a lot of friends, and a lot of people knew him, " said his son.

At home, he left a strong legacy. His son Kerry followed in his footsteps to become a law enforcement officer, now working as a Boone County sheriff's deputy. Kerry's twin brother, Terry, took over the truck parts business.

"He was a great dad, " said Kerry Curry.

In recent years, Pat Curry helped run the antique mall in Williamstown.

Survivors besides his sons include his wife, Judy McClain Curry; daughters, Connie Moore of Elsmere and Donna Tanner of Union; stepsons, Tony Berger of Rome, Wis., Michael Berger of Tucson, Ariz., and Jonathan Berger of Dry Ridge; a stepdaughter, Sharon Parker of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Gideons International, P. O. Box 222, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Thelma Heiert Lloyd, worked hard, but knew how to enjoy life

Thelma Heiert Lloyd of Melbourne worked hard her entire life, but was blessed with a love of people, a sense of humor and a warm circle of family and friends.

Thelma Lloyd died Saturday morning at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was 77.

As a child, Mrs. Lloyd and her 13 brothers and sisters helped out on the family farm, also in Melbourne.

She married and was a stay-at-home mother with two little girls until her husband died in 1968 - forcing her to find work outside the home.

"She really had to work hard to support us after father got killed in a car wreck, " said her daughter, Brenda Lloyd-Radenheimer of Southgate.

She said her mother and a friend, Alma Uebel of Ross, now deceased, took jobs hanging wallpaper - calling their enterprise "Thelma and Alma's."

During the summer, Mrs. Lloyd worked a second job. She was a waitress at Martzes Resort and Playground in Ross (now called Ross Resorts).

"She liked it because she liked the people there, " said Mrs. Lloyd-Radenheimer.

"That was where a lot of companies had their picnics - big companies like AT&T;, Procter & Gamble and Wiedemann.

"There were Buckeye League games there. It was a booming place."

But Mrs. Lloyd made sure she took the opportunity to enjoy life, playing cards and spending time with her family.

And in her later years, she doted on her grandchildren: Jason Oldiges, 27, of Alexandria, Nathan Ritter, 18, of Erlanger, a student at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, and Jethro Lloyd, 30, who lives in the state of California.

"She loved her grandchildren. They definitely kept her going, " said Mrs. Lloyd-Radenheimer.

Mrs. Lloyd lived her entire life in Melbourne.

She was an independent woman who lived alone in her own home, but welcomed visitors.

"She was a very jovial person. She loved to play cards with her family, " said Mrs. Lloyd-Radenheimer.
