William Sabelhaus, retired typesetter
As a typesetter in the days before computers, William J. Sabelhaus was clearly an individual unafraid of a hard day's work. For years he worked a full day at Cincinnati Typesetting, then returned home to Florence to do jobs for his own printing business in his basement.
"It was a lot different back then than it is now, " said his son, Daniel. "You had to put chemicals down on it to bring up the negatives to make plates to put on the presses. But he liked the process."
Mr. Sabelhaus, 65, of Sanders, died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
He owned Sabelhaus Superior Printing Co. in Florence. But his son said in later years he took the most joy out of the farm he purchased near Sparta. It was a peaceful retreat from business and the bustle of Florence.
"He could get out and walk around and relate with nature. He enjoyed that and the cows. It was a totally different atmosphere, " said Daniel Sabelhaus.
Mr. Sabelhaus was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and St. Joseph Church in Warsaw, and a former Knothole Baseball coach.
