Paul Evans, former Crestview judge, mayor
Paul Evans was a man who loved to get involved, whether it was with family or various organizations.
It was this that led him to seek political office in Crestview, Ky., where he was a city judge, council member and eventually mayor.
"He was absolutely dedicated to making a difference, " said Lyla J. Bodkin, a daughter from Alexandria. "He was actually very quiet by nature, but when he needed to, he spoke his mind."
Mr. Evans, 76, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Alexandria, died Tuesday in Port Charlotte. He was retired from Procter & Gamble, and a member of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge No. 2153, American Legion Post No. 110, Moose Lodge No. 2121 and the Florida State Hobos, a recreational vehicle group. Mr. Evans was also a Navy veteran of World War II.
While in office, one of his proudest accomplishments was getting a baseball field built and organizing a Knothole league for children.
Mr. Evans enjoyed taking his wife and two children on trips, and occasionally, would work a second job to ensure the family had enough money to take their yearly trip. Mrs. Bodkin said it was important to her father that the family saw new and exciting places.
Mr. Evans also played a large role in his children's activities. From band practice and football games to school work, Mrs. Bodkin said they always knew their father would be there.
"He was dearly loved by his family and friends because he was the type of person who was always there when you needed him, " she said.
