William Beverly, 80, former owner of Warsaw Pharmacy

A prominent business and community leader in Warsaw has died.

William G. Beverly, former long-time owner of the Warsaw Pharmacy, past president of the Farmers State Bank and a former Warsaw City Council member, died Sunday at Gallatin County Health Care Center. He was 80.

Mr. Beverly was owner of Warsaw Pharmacy from 1952-1995, then worked there part-time until recently. He was a trustee of Warsaw Christian Church, a member of the Gallatin County Fish and Game Club and was president of the Warsaw Lions Club. He was chairman of the Three Rivers Health Board, chairman of the Warsaw cemetery Board, and an Army veteran of World War II.

"He was just a tremendous person in our community. He's going to be tremendously missed, " said Councilwoman Beatrice Scott, who worked with Mr. Beverly at Farmers State Bank and served with him on the cemetery board.

"He was a great person to work for. He was vibrant, liked to joke around and always had something friendly to say."

Mr. Beverly's daughter, Donna Carroll Hughes, of Lexington, said she will remember her father's whistle and his sense of humor. When his children were kids, he called them from playtime with a whistle.

"You could hear it for miles, " Ms. Hughes said.

"He was a jokester. He was always playing pranks on us. He loved April Fool's jokes"

Ms. Hughes described Mr. Beverly as a wonderful father who took pride in his children's accomplishments and who loved his church and his community.

"He he just loved life more than anything, " Ms. Hughes said. "He's taught me his spiritual values and love of the community. He was involved in so many things and we just kind of followed in his footsteps."

His son, Dan Thomas Beverly, preceded him in death.

In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Beverly of Warsaw; a brother, Carroll Spencer Beverly of Smith Grove; two granddaughters and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Warsaw Christian Church, 207 W. High St., Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Clarice McKenney Cheak, 74, of Sadieville, died Friday in Lexington.

She was a homemaker, a baby-sitter and a cafeteria worker with Sadieville Schools. She was a member of Sadieville Baptist Church. Her husband, Jesse Cheak, and a son, Terry Snow, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Bruce McKenney of Dry Ridge and Raimie Fortney of Phoenix; daughters, Rita Pelfrey of Mount Sterling and Sherry Eaves of Georgetown; a brother, Eddie McKenney of Walton; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Henry Cemetery, Harrison County.

Rena Vay Evans, 73, of Corinth, died at 4:05 a.m. Saturday at Mary Chiles Hospital, Mount Sterling. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Winford Evans, died in 1997.

Survivors include sons, Winford Keith Evans of Louisville, Scott Evans of Berea and Robert Evans of Williamstown; brothers, Roy Sexton of Corinth, Rodney Sexton of Verona, Russell Sexton of Flemingsburg, Earl Caldwell of Williamstown and Claudis Caldwell of Mount Olivet; sisters, Maxine Rogers of Mount Sterling and Redith Jacobs of Fort Worth, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Memorials are suggested to Mary Chiles Hospital, 50 Sterling Ave., Mount Sterling, Ky. 40353.

Frances "Dutch" Gulley, 66, of Carrollton, died Saturday at Tri-County Baptist Hospital, LaGrange.

She was a retired employee of the Carroll County Board of Education, and a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother, William "Bubby" Gulley of Louisville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Marie Z. Hodge, 88, of Ludlow, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

She was a retired apartment manager with Rouse & Rankin Co. and a member of the Ludlow Ladies Hobo Club. Husbands, Hutsy Jones and Clifford Hodge, died in 1955 and 1996, respectively.

Survivors include daughters, Rita Painter of Alma, Mich., Patricia "Ann" Smith and M. Eileen Jones, both of Covington; sons, Donald Jones of Ludlow and Ralph Jones of Fitzgerald, Ga.; a brother, Cecil Smith of Delaware, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Andrew Horner, 84, of Carrollton, died Friday at Tri-County Baptist Hospital, LaGrange.

He was a truck driver and a member of English Baptist Church. His wives, Mildred Horner and Martha Horner, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Garberick of Marietta, Ohio, Pam Horner and Chrystal Buchanan, both of Carrollton, Judy Rose of Crestwood, Michelle Coolidge of LaGrange and Cindy Cummings of Tavares, Fla.; sons, Jeff Horner and Shannon Horner, both of Carrollton; a brother, Wilbur Horner of Carrollton; sisters, Ida Lowry of Louisville and Tina Davis of North Vernon, Ind.; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation began there at 10 a.m. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Robert "Big Daddy" Prather McCammon, 86, of Latonia, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a bartender with Goodtimers bar in Latonia.

Survivors include a sister, Maree Tabor of Ripley, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Milford, Ohio.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.

Phyllis Ann Tatman Norris, 63, of Brooksville, died at 9:55 p.m. Friday at Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Berlin Baptist Church, Brooksville.

Survivors include her husband, William Norris; sons, Terry Wayne Norris and William Albert Norris II, both of Brooksville, and Charles Clinton Norris of Foster; daughters, Joy Ann Norris of Newport, Janet Lee Bishop of Foster and Jana Dean Thomas of Augusta; a brother, Freeman Earl Tatman of Morrow, Ohio; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.

Debbie Ann Phillips, 37, of Maysville, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.

She was an employee of the Hardees restaurant in Maysville and Kentucky Fried Chicken in Aberdeen, Ohio, and a member of Maysville Community Lighthouse Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. Her husband, Larry Phillips, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Larry Wayne Phillips, at home; daughters, Patricia Phillips and Wendy Phillips, both at home; sisters, Nellie Ison of Maysville and Linda Jowers of England, Ark.; and a brother, Gary Thacker of Maysville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Billy R. Prather Sr., 72, of Ludlow, died Saturday at Lakeside Care Center, Highland Heights.

He was a retired screener with Sweco Co., Florence. His wife, Bessie Prather, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Billy R. Prather Jr. of Ludlow; daughters, Pamella Prather and Carole Prather, both of Roanoke, Va.; sisters, Sue Westerman of Fort Myers, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Ronald Joe Race, 46, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Survivors include brothers, Donald Race and Roy Race Jr., both of Jonesville, George Race of Wheatley, Gary Race and Rev. Floyd Race, both of Crittenden; and sister, Ruby Harris of Dry Ridge and Margaret Thurman of Falmouth.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Full Gospel Church, Corinth. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the church. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, Keefer.

Della Burkhardt Schraffenberger, 95, of Fort Wright, died Friday at Heritage Regency in Richmond, Ind.

She was a retired secretary and treasurer with Balke Engineering Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. She was a past president of the Women's Credit Association of Cincinnati and a former member of St. Aloysius School PTA, Cincinnati.

Her first husband, Erwin Burkhardt, died in 1968, and her second husband, Edmund Schraffenberger, died in 1988.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Lou Fuller of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Mary Jo Stone of Katy, Texas; a son, Erwin J. Burkhardt of Richmond, Ind.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Jack Schulte, 71, of Taylor Mill, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at his home. Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Aleene Beagle Terry, 95, of Louisville, formerly of Berry, died at 8:23 a.m. Saturday at her daughter's home in Louisville.

She was a member of Colemansville Christian Church, Harrison County. Her husbands, Roy Terry and Ben Beagle, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Wheeler of Louisville; a brother, Grover Day of Covington; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.

Tammy Rhea Vickers, 15, of Dry Ridge, died of a gunshot wound Friday in Grant County.

She was a student at Grant County High School.

Survivors include her parents, James L. and Sandra J. Vickers of Dry Tammy Vickers Ridge; a brother, Timothy W. Vickers of Dry Ridge; and grandparents, H. B. Vickers and Katie Vickers, both of Middleton, Tenn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mamie Jones Wainscott, 78, of Owenton, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.

She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church, Owenton. Her first husband, Earl Jones, died in 1988. A daughter, Mary Clara Jones, died in 1952.

Survivors include her husband, Buford Wainscott of Owenton; daughters, Vada Thornberry of Ludlow and Sharon Hamilton of Erlanger; sons, Joseph L. Jones of Ludlow and Aaron Lester Jones of Burlington; stepsons, William Wainscott, Gene Wainscott and Wayne Wainscott, all of Williamstown; stepdaughters, Ella Crosswaite of Williamstown and Rose Dunn of Berry; a sister, Martha Carver of Edmond, W.Va.; 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Joseph Patrick Wedge, 54, of Somerset, formerly of Carroll County, died Sunday at Albert B. Chandler Medical Center, Lexington.

He was a maintenance supervisor with Hayes-Lemmerz Manufacturing Co., Somerset, a former employee of the Dayton-Walther Carrollton Plant, a member of Mount Victory Baptist Church and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Jean Rabourn Wedge; sons, Steven Patrick Wedge of Lexington, Joshua William Wedge of Scottsburg and Aaron Joseph Wedge of Somerset; a daughter, Sonya Renee Sandlin of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Randi Dawn Fitzgerald of Carrollton; parents, Raymond Patrick and Ludia R. Wedge of Frederickton, New Brunswick, Canada; sisters, Priscilla Scott and Claudette Brochu, both of Frederickton, and JoAnn Barnes of Ashley, Ill.; brothers, Ray Wedge of Omaha, Neb., and Guy Wedge of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Castle Cemetery.

John L. Wood, 86, of Cincinnati, formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Saturday at Ivy Wood Health Care Center, Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
