Marg Wilbers, 77, teacher, lay pastoral minister, mom
Marg Wilbers was an ordained, lay pastoral minister at Holy Cross Church in Latonia and a former teacher who founded a social club for middle-aged people and started a health care program at her church.
She also was the best of mothers, said Diana Timmerding of Latonia, who followed in her mother's footsteps by becoming a teacher.
"She was just a very faith-filled woman and a living example of God in the world, " Mrs. Timmerding said.
Marg Wilbers died Sunday afternoon at her home. She was 77.
Ms. Wilbers was born and reared in Latonia.
She earned a master's degree in education at the former Villa Madonna College, now Thomas More College in Crestview Hills.
She worked 27 years for the Holy Cross schools, teaching grade school and then high school.
When she retired from the school system, she was teaching high school English and also was chairwoman of the English department.
"She was very young at heart, and she loved to be with young people, " said Mrs. Timmerding, who is chairwoman of the English department at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills.
During Ms. Wilbers' final two years of teaching, she took courses sponsored by the Diocese of Covington to become a lay pastoral minister.
She was a minister at Holy Cross Church for about 10 years.
At Holy Cross, Ms. Wilbers founded the Over 50 Club and the Holy Cross Health Cabinet.
The health cabinet offered parishioners free blood-pressure tests and flu shots in the back of the church.
Among the nurses helping out were her daughters, Mariann Cahill of Latonia and Lynn Ann Heath and JoAnn Payne, both of Cincinnati.
"Mother was always looking for what she could do to meet the needs of the various age groups, " said Mrs. Timmerding.
Besides her daughters, she is survived by a son, James E. Wilbers of Pittsburgh; a brother, Donald Louis Schumer of Crestview Hills; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church in Latonia.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in Mother of God cemetery in Fort Wright.

Hubert Bales, 69, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., died Monday at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was a retired security officer for Merchant Security Company, Cincinnati and a member of Grand Avenue Church of God, Covington.
Survivors include his wife Clona Bales of Lawrenceburg; sons, Charles Bales of Cincinnati and George Bales of Cleves, Ohio; daughters, Reda Folenius of Cleves, Ohio, and Tammy Roaden of Lawrenceburg; brothers, Jimmy Letner and Dexter Bales, both of Tennessee; sister, Venie Letner of Tennessee; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grand Avenue Church of God. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Louise Frances Brannen, 92, of Maysville, died Monday at Ohio Valley Manor, Ripley, Ohio. She was head bookkeeper with State National Bank, Maysville, and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville. She was a member of the church Altar Society, retreat master at Marydale for Women and was active in the church Society of Mary.
Survivors include sisters, Nellie Condon of Cincinnati and Agnes Tierney of Maysville; nieces and nephews.

Minnie Louise Brown, 66, of Warsaw, died Sunday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a homemaker and a member of Sparta Christian Church. Her husband, Homer Brown, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Roberts of Warsaw; sisters, Susie Bishop of Warsaw and Jeanette Davis of Sparta; and two grandsons.

Kenneth Bryant, 72, of Southgate, died today at his home.

Rita Marie Elliott, of Decatur, Ga., formerly of Independence, died May 7 in Decatur. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd A. Elliott; sons, Kim Elliott of Phoenix and Kevin Elliott of Roswell, Ga.; sisters, Alma Knox of Florence, Marie Biedenharn of Florence and Mary McGraw of Independence; a brother, William Faulkner of Erlanger; and five grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Entombment was in Arlington Memorial Park, Atlanta. A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, is handling arrangements.
Bert Epperson, 82, of Ludlow, died Friday at his home. He was retired on disability and was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Mary Jane Epperson, died in 2000. A daughter, Mary Etta Deininger, died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Bev Epperson of Ludlow; sons, Dale Epperson and Bobby Epperson, both of Ludlow; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Kathy Ann Cheesman Farmer, 41, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a pricing analyst with R. A. Jones Co., and a member of the Morning View Methodist Church and Covington Moose Lodge. She was a former member of the Kenton Volunteer Fire Department and a secretary for the Beechgrove Lions Club.
Survivors include a son, David Glen Farmer of Morning View; daughters, Amberlee Michelle Farmer and Angelia Marie Farmer, both of Morning View; her parents, Joseph and Mary Cheesman of Morning View; brothers, Duke Scott, Gary Cheesman and Joey Cheesman, all of Morning View; and sisters, Cynthia Lynn Scott and Jody Cheesman, both of Morning View, and Becky Lucas of Visalia.

Ruth Houlihan, 79, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a saleswoman with Elder Beerman and a member of Sacred Heart Christian Mothers and Bellevue Vets Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Donald Houlihan, died in 1995. A son, Michael Houlihan, died 1975.
Survivors include a son, Frank Houlihan of Bellevue; daughters, Margaret Houlihan and Patty Houlihan, both of Houlihan; one grandchild and one great-grandchildren.

Nellie Pauline King May, 84, of Lexington, formerly of Covington, died Saturday at her home. She was a retired executive secretary with W. E. Kingsley Co. and a former member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Covington. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lexington, and Keturah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Latonia. Her husband, Ralph G. May, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, William J. May Sr. of Frankfort; a daughter, S. Pauline May Neilson of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, Phillip E. King of Covington; a sister, E. Wyona King of Covington; four grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Charlene Sizemore Mays, 71, of Taylor Mill, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday at her home. She was a retired assigner with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Taylor Mill and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Survivors include a son, Ernest Glenn Mays of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Ernalee Thompson of Taylor Mill; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Rebekah Lynn Randall, 17, of Petersburg, died Saturday in Boone County in an auto accident. She was a junior at Conner High School, where she played basketball and volleyball, and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Survivors include her parents, Ronnie and Lynda Randall of Petersburg; a brother, Aaron Randall of Petersburg; a sister, Renay Randall of Nashville, Tenn.; and grandparents, Ronnie Randall and Barbara Patterson, both of Highland Heights, and Girtha Mullins of Hebron.

Mary L. Wharton, 82, of Latonia, died at 7:28 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired administrative assistant with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and a member of Latonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include cousins, George Edmondson of Fort Wright, Betty Rider of Covington and William Edmondson of Independence.

Rexford "Rex" Whitt, 76, of Taylor Mill, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a retired lithographer and Progress Lithography and U.S. Playing Card Co., and a member of St. Patrick Council No. 1747 Knights of Columbus. He was a past grand knight of the council.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Whitt; a son, Jeffrey Whitt of West Chester, Ohio; daughters, Victoria Lykins of Taylor Mill, Sue Whitt of Treasure Island, Fla., and Amy Whitt of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Anita Danes, Alberta Ream and Gaynelle Koenig, all of Mason, Ohio, and Delilah Clemmons of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jimmy "Fats" Willis, 51, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired cook with Sha Ra Lounge in Cincinnati and Olive Garden, Florence.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Soderlund Willis; a stepson, Eric Stephenson of Covington; a stepdaughter, Michelle Stephenson of Covington; a brother, Willie Mitchell of North Carolina; a grandmother, Mattie Bell Willis; and two grandchildren.
