Lila Frakes, secretary, artist, helped others
Lila Frakes was an energetic woman who enjoyed painting, sewing and singing.
Her oil paintings of desert scenes are so good that several family members have them hanging in their homes, said Mrs. Frakes' daughter, Judith L. Porter of Florence.
"She was a really interesting lady. She was well-liked and admired, " Mrs. Porter said.
Mrs. Frakes, 90, of Elsmere, died Saturday at Woodcrest Manor in Elsmere. She was a secretary with the federal government, a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a member of Florence United Methodist Church. Her husband, William Walter Frakes, died in 1970.
Mrs. Frakes was born in Arkansas but spent a good portion of her life in Northern Kentucky, her daughter said.
Mrs. Frakes believed in helping others and the Frakes Foundation Endowment at the University of Cincinnati Foundation was established years ago to help students further their studies in psychology or other areas, Mrs. Porter said.
"She was extremely active, " Mrs. Porter said.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Frakes is also survived by a son, Donald W. Frakes of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; and one grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Florence United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Suellen Browning, 64, of Falmouth, died today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Kenneth Lee Bryant, 72, of Southgate, died Tuesday in Omaha, Ill. He was an electrical inspector with Electrical Inspection Bureau Inc., a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Mount Carmel Methodist Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, June Bryant; stepdaughters, Cynthia Brown of Newport, Laura Link of Cold Spring and Kathy Lux of Louisville; daughters, Terry Bender of Milford, Ohio, and Lee Ann Kaelin of Batavia, Ohio; a son, Michael Bryant of Cincinnati; his mother, Nathlee Bryant of Lebanon, Ohio; a brother, Marvin Bryant of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Patty Richter of Chicago; and numerous grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Rose Francis Browning Casey, 86, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a member of Unity Christian Church, Harrison County. Her husband, Herby Casey, and son, Herby Thomas Casey, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Holland of Harrison County; a sister, Marion Fields of Cynthiana; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Michael Patrick Haney, 24, of Newport, drowned Friday in the Licking River.
He was a restaurant and maintenance worker.
Survivors include his parents, Patricia Ann Kay of Forest Hill, Md., and Richard L. Haney Sr. of Hageestown, Md.; brothers, Kevin A. Haney of Phoenixville, Pa., and Andrew W. J. Kay of Forest Hill; a sister, Samantha M. Haney of Forest Hill; and grandmother, Joyce E. Haney of Bel Air, Md.
Services were this morning at Schimunek Funeral Home, Bel Air. Burial was in Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
Myrtie West Kinman, 83, of Williamstown, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday at Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown. She was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church. Her husband, Alvie "Jim Peck" Kinman, died in 1995.
A daughter, Phyllis Worthington, died in 1979.
Survivors include a brother, Eugene West of Florida; a sister, Thelma Raisor of Erlanger; six granddaughters and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.
Virgil F. Leger, 71, of Independence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a former employee of Duro Bag Co., and was an ordained minister. He was a founding member of the 30-13ers, a CB club. His first wife, Mary Leger, died in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Faye Leger of Corbin; daughters, Faye Johnson of Independence and Reva Patterson of Walton; a son, Bryon Leger of Burlington; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Park Hill Baptist Church, Corbin, Ky. 40701.
William McGaha, 64, of Las Vegas, formerly of Campbell County, died Friday at Creekside Home Health Care, Las Vegas. He was a dealer with the Sands and Riviera hotels in Las Vegas, a member of Cold Spring Baptist Church and a Navy veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah McKenna of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; sisters, Mary Kyle of Newport, Jean Moore of Wilder and Doris Thompson of Fort Thomas; and brothers, Charles McGaha of Petersburg and Stephen McGaha of Covington.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Cold Spring Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Cold Spring. Esther Eunice Miller, 90, of Lexington, formerly of Bracken County, died Monday in Lexington. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Chatham. Her husband, Raymond Earl Miller, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Edwin Earl Miller of Cynthiana and Raymond Lee Miller of San Diego; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Powersville Cemetery.
Ricky Gene Moore, 47, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Walton, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital in Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy McFadden; sisters, Sharon Collins of Covington, Sandy Rodgers of Crittenden, Linda Chandler of Foster, Diane Needham and Betty Massey, both of Walton; and brothers, Larry Moore and David Moore, both of Jacksonville.
