Robert Schwartz, 72, loved helping families in need
Robert L. Schwartz was a jovial man who believed in helping others.
Mr. Schartz, a Kenton County native, for years was a member of the Good Guys Club at the American Legion in Walton. He and other members often gathered food and gifts for needy families during the holidays, his wife said.
"They gave things to families that needed help, " said Juanita Schwartz, who was married
to her husband for 49 years.
"He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend."
Mr. Schwartz, 72, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a dispatcher with Ace Doran Trucking Co. and a member of St. Paul Church in Florence.
Mr. Schwartz enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger, his wife said. He also rooted for the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals.
"He had many friends, and he liked to joke a lot, " Mrs. Schwartz said.
Mr. Schwartz was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife, Mr. Schwartz is also survived by a son, Bob Schwartz of Falmouth; daughters, Brenda Schwartz of Florence, Kathy Schwartz of Burlington and Lisa Hartig of Melbourne; brothers, Larry Schwartz of St. Louis, James Schwartz of Phoenix, Howard Schwartz of San Diego and Carl Schwartz of Villa Hills; sisters, Mary Ann Pryatel of Russell, Ohio, Rose Rolfsen of Baton Rouge, La., Sadie Schwartz of St. Joseph, Mich., and Mary Schwartz of Independence; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

John Bradford, 70, of Lexington, formerly of Pendleton County, died today at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Edith Cole, 85, of Erlanger, died Thursday at Baptist Village in Erlanger.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Samuel G. Haigis, 95, of Lexington, formerly of Bellevue, died Wednesday at Christian Health Care Center, Lexington. He was an electrician with Baker Electric Co., and a member of First Baptist Church of Bellevue. His wife, Reva Haigis, died in 2000.
Survivors include daughters, Reva Bratcher of Frankfort and Jetta May McPherson of Lexington; sons, John Haigis of San Diego and Sam Haigis of Howe, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 254 Washington St., Bellevue, Ky. 41073.
Lettie Mae Hedges, 88, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Philadelphia Church of God. Her husband, Lelan Sherwood Hedges, died in 1976.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ann Norris of Union; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Bert Howard, 61, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at her home. She was a clothing room clerk with Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Harold "Bob" Howard; a son, Bobby Howard of California; a daughter, Vickie Pelgen of Fort Thomas; a brother, Howard Blaut of Tempe, Ariz.; a sister, Ginger Blaut-Norris of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Ida Frances Nunnelley, 77, of Williamstown, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert Preston Nunnelley, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Doug Nunnelley of Corinth and Terry Nunnelley of Berry; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery.
Elmer "Butch" Rosser, 56, of Maysville, died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington. He was a truck driver with Brown County Construction Co. in Aberdeen, Ohio, and a manager of the Hill City Mobile Home Park in Maysville. He was an Army veteran. A daughter, Stephanie Rosser, died in 1982. A sister, Patricia D. Bowkamp, died on May 8.
Survivors include his wife, Gale Rosser; daughters, Daphne Jones of Maysville and Brandi Erkenbrecher of West Union, Ohio; brothers, James Rosser of Dover and Jerry Rosser of Flemingsburg; sisters, Linda Rosser of Owenton, Sue Faris of Ripley, Ohio, Billie Hartley of Cincinnati, Bonnie Wallingford of Maysville and Mary Etta Carpenter of Washington; and four grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Dover. Memorials are suggested to March of Dimes Foundation, 1275 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10605.
Florence M. Schwartz, 91, of Latonia, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Schwartz of Latonia; nieces and nephews.

Ora Ethel Webster, 89, of Williamstown, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Williamstown Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Robert Lee Smith of Florence, Kenneth Dale Webster of Anaza, Calif., and Maurice Jay Webster of Williamstown; daughters, Janet L. Hovland of Fort Wright and JoAnn Templeton of Williamstown; a stepdaughter, Ann Martin of Burlington; a brother, Louis Ramsey Smith of Dry Ridge; sisters, Edith Singleton of Dry Ridge, Anna Stewart of Crittenden and Zeffa M. Robinson of Dry Ridge; 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
