Lester Lyon, always helped others
Lester Lyon enjoyed helping children in Sunday school and neighbors who needed help with yard work.
"He had a great sense of humor, and he loved to talk to people, " said Mr. Lyon's son, Gary Lyon of Columbus, Ohio.
"He was as friendly as anyone you'd want to meet."
Mr. Lyon, 86, of Erlanger, died Monday at his home. He was a retired employee of Merit Clothing Co., Mayfield, and a member of First Baptist Church in Mayfield, where he was a Sunday school teacher and deacon.
He was a member of Florence Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans and an officer with the Merit Clothing Credit Union. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Lyon was a native of Western Kentucky and lived in Northern Kentucky for 20 years.
He and his wife, May Moore Lyon, were married
for more than 50 years.
Mr. Lyon enjoyed watching the University of Kentucky men's basketball team and Major League baseball, his son said.
"He loved gardening. He grew tomatoes, " Gary Lyon said.
Besides his wife and son, Mr. Lyon is also survived by a daughter, Carolyn Lloyd of Edgewood; sisters, Pauline Harris and Elizabeth Burton, both of Mayfield; a brother, Marvin Lyon of Mayfield; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Florence Baptist Church Building Fund, 283 Main St., Florence, Ky. 41042.
Robert J. Adams, 75, of Florence, died Sunday at his home.
He was a retired supervisor with Multi-Color, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Elizabeth Adams, died in 1996. A daughter, Katheryn Ann Adams, died in 1984.
Survivors include sons, Robert H. Adams of Portage, Mich., and Douglas K. Adams of Florence; daughters, Yanna Adams of Woodbridge, Va., and Shaunna Adams of Covington; a sister, Norma Adams of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a brother, Carl Adams of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Janet Duke, 88, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Rachel Catherine Howard Chapman, 83, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at Owenton Manor. She was a homemaker and a member of Sherman Church of Christ, Dry Ridge. Her husband, Leonard Chapman, died in 1982.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Chapman of Ruther Glen, Va.; brothers, W. Nobel Howard of Selma, Ind., and J. D. Howard of Hessler; sisters, Thelma Simpson of Sherman, Sylvia Perkins of Corinth, and Hazel Simpson and Norma Poe, both of Owenton; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sherman Church of Christ, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Sherman Church of Christ, 1055 Sherman-Mount Zion Road, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.
Dale Coghill, 74, of Carrollton, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a retired farmer. His wife, Norma Jean Coghill, died in 2000.
Survivors include sisters, Betty Robbins of Carrollton and Bertha Imel of Indianapolis; and brothers, Walter Coghill Jr. and Paul Coghill, both of Carrollton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
James William Dryden, 87, of Carrollton, died Monday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. He was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Parks and General Butler State Park in Carrollton. His wife, Ruby Mile Dryden, died in 1998.
Survivors include sons, William D. Dryden of Warsaw and James Dryden Jr. of Carrollton; daughters, Norma Jean Ballard of Ghent and Eva Mae Williamson of Warsaw; four grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Apostolic Church, Carrollton. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.
Anne E. Eilerman, 42, of Ludlow, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was an assembler with New Perceptions.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Eilerman of Ludlow; brothers, Paul Eilerman Jr. of Fort Wright, Joseph Eilerman of Fort Mitchell, John Eilerman of Dayton, Ohio, and Jerry Eilerman of Ludlow; and sisters, Mary Jane Kottmeyer of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Carolyn Chapman of Villa Hills.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Bryson Matthew "Skip" Fisk II, 51, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a blight inspector with the City of Dayton, and a member of St. Cecilia Church in Independence and an assistant coach with the Hut A. C. baseball team.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Pangallo Fisk; sons, Jason Matthew Fisk and Ryan Bryson Fisk, both at home; a sister, Karen Fisk Koch of Independence; and a brother, Michael Edward Fisk of Philadelphia.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Cecilia Church. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Cecilia Church, 5313 Madison Pike, Independence, Ky. 41051.
Elaine King, 57, of Falmouth, died Sunday at her home. She was a legal secretary with the Bathalter & Woeste law firm in Falmouth, a member of Falmouth Christian Church and a former Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband, Billy King; a son, William Andrew "Andy" King of Foster; a daughter, Laura McClanahan of Williamstown; her mother, Ernestine Satchwill of Williamstown; a brother, Charles Satchwill Jr. of Independence; a sister, Barbara DiPuccio of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County.

William Thomas Lanter, 72, of Dry Ridge, died Monday in Okeana, Ohio. He was a retired driver with Greyhound Bus Lines.
Survivors include a son, Steven Lanter of Okeana; daughters, Nancy Lanter and April Lanter, both of Cincinnati; a brother, Harold Lanter of Independence; a sister, Sue Eggle of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Linda Rice, 53, of Covington, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Oscar Harless Jr. of Dry Ridge; and a daughter, Renee Mullins of Covington.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. C&C; Mortuary, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Junior Floyd Stanford, 69, of Berry, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired employee of Olympia Packaging Co., Mundelein, Ill. Sons, Larry Stanford and Brian Stanford, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Hall Stanford; a son, Michael Stanford of California; a daughter, Brenda Kay Reese of Holiday, Texas; brothers, Jessie Stanford of Jackson, Mich., Robert Stanford of Harrisburg, Ark., and Isom Stanford of Edwardsburg, Mich.; sisters, Lilly Golden of El Dorado, Ark., Stella Flowers of Ellouise, Fla., and Fannie Thomas of Hartford, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Congdon Funeral Home, Zion, Ill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
Erma Staton, 78, of Melbourne, died Saturday at St. John Health System, Anderson, Ind.
She was a former Campbell County Fiscal Court and Campbell County Extension Center treasurer, and a choir director and organist with St. Philip Church in Melbourne. She was an owner of Pete's Place Tavern and Green Meadows picnic grounds in Melbourne, and was a former Northern Kentucky Woman of the Year.
Her husband, James W. Staton, died in 1999.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Thomas Bright of Noblesville, Ind.; a sister, Della Kinsella of Melbourne; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Philip Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. George Thomas Taylor, 81, of Butler, died Monday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Second Twelve Mile Baptist Church in Peach Grove. He was a deacon at the church for 61 years. He was a Sunday school teacher, and an active member and past board member of the Southern Baptist Association. He was a World War II veteran. His wife, Henrietta Taylor, preceded him in death, as well as two grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Stan Taylor of Butler; daughter, Jane Taylor Stone of Paynesville, West Virginia; brothers, Elmer Taylor of Erlanger and Paul Taylor of Covington; sisters, Helen Lindsley of Amelia, Ohio and Ruth Adkins of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Second Twelve Mile Baptist Church, Peach Grove. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick and at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery.
