Sister Mary Justa, loved being nun
Sister Mary Justa enjoyed being a nun.
Whether it was cooking, which was her specialty, doing laundry or playing cards and encouraging other nuns to have fun, Sister Mary made herself unique, said a niece, Linda Birochik of Buffalo, N.Y.
"She liked poetry, classical music and playing cards. She had an excellent sense of humor, " Ms. Birochik said.
Sister Mary Justa, S.N.D., formerly Mary Birochik, 82, of Park Hills, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Heights in Park Hills.
Sister Mary was born in Jenkins, Ky., and was raised in the old St. Joseph Orphanage in Cold Spring. She became a nun after graduating from high school.
Sister Mary was a warm person who believed in giving hugs, her niece said. Her favorite thing to cook was peanut brittle.
"She was a people person. If you came into the kitchen door, she would have a cup of coffee for you, or maybe a doughnut, " Ms. Birochik said.
"She never judged. She accepted people for who they are."
Sister Mary was a cook with the Sisters of Notre Dame in Covington, Lexington, Cincinnati and Chicago.
Other survivors include a sister, Pauline Butkorf of Pittsburg; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Heights Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Heights Cemetery, Park Hills. Memorials are suggested to Sisters of Notre Dame, 1601 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Ronnie Lee Hutchinson, 50, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a rigger with Southland Marina, California.
Survivors include a daughter, Tialisa Bessenbacher of Cincinnati; sons, Ronnie Hutchinson of Erlanger and Jeffrey Hutchinson of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Marvin Hutchinson of Oneida, Tenn., Allen Edmonds and Dale Edmonds, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Alma McCartt of Milford, Ohio, Nancy Cate of Cincinnati and Sandra Barnett of Covington; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling arrangements.
James A. Johnson, 51, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a resort manager.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Johnson; stepdaughters, Amber Brickler of Fort Thomas and Robin Vieth of Palatine, Ill.; sisters, Lisa Aceto and Judith Benning, both of Naperville, Ill.; brothers, David Johnson of Goshen, Ind., and Michael Johnson of Murray; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Children's Hospital Medical Center Development Office, 3333 Bryant Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Leonard Eugene Lilly, 61, of Hopkinsville, died Tuesday at his home. He was a self-employed electrician and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include sons, Kevin Lilly of Crofton and Kenneth Lilly of Hopkinsville; a daughter, Kimberly Haynes of Hopkinsville; his mother, Elizabeth Adams of Warsaw; brothers, Rev. Eddie Lilly and Rev. Gerald Adams, both of Hopkinsville, Clifford Lilly, Larry Adams and Jeff Adams, all of Warsaw, and Steve Adams of Worthville; sisters, Brenda Earls of Carrollton and Pam Perry of Warsaw; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Grant County.
Margaret V. Lindsey, 71, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Covington, died April 25 in Tampa.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill.
Maria Rosa Palmieri, 93, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at Villa Spring of Erlanger.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Her husband, Nicola Palmieri, and sons, Gerardo Palmieri and Egidio Palmieri, all preceded her in death.

Palmieri Survivors include a daughter, Filomena Catalano of Fort Wright; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Ernest Ray Roark, 62, of Worthville, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired construction worker with Bob Houston Waterproofing, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Dell Rosell Roark; a son, Ernest Ray Roark Jr. of Ludlow; a brother, Harold Roark of Dry Ridge; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Burnice Gertrude Schlosser, 91, of Erlanger, died Monday at Villa Spring, Erlanger. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, William Schlosser; a daughter, Mary Jane McIntire of Ladylake, Fla.; a son, William Lee Schlosser of West Burlington, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sand Run Baptist Church, Hebron. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Co. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.
Albert L. "Bert" Vogel, 79, of Alexandria, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired vice president of E. J. Robinson Glass Co., Bellevue, and a member of Knights of Columbus Father DeJaco Council No. 5220 in Alexandria and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte E. Vogel; a daughter, Sharon Ann Hoffmaster of Mount Laurel, N.J.; a brother, John Vogel of Silver Grove; and one granddaughter.

Jerry Lee Wainscott, 48, of Bennington, Ind., died at 8:58 p.m. Tuesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a former cutter with U.S. Shoe Corp. and welder with Randall-Textron Corp., both in Vevay, Ind., and a retired employee of Steigler Construction Co. He was treasurer of the Ohio Valley Coonhunters Association, and a member of Sons of American Legion Post No. 185 and the Carpenters Union Local.
Survivors include his wife, Leslie S. Bailey Wainscott; sons, Joey Wainscott of East Enterprise, Ind., and Chris Wainscott of Bellevue; a daughter, Angela Earls of Fairview, Ind.; his mother, Phyllis Konkle Coker of Vevay; his father and stepmother, Lenville J. and Carolyn Wainscott of Pleasant, Ind.; brothers, Richard Wainscott and William Wainscott, both of Moorefield, Ind.; half-sisters, Marion Skirvin of Madison, Ind., Kim Moore of South Lebanon, Ohio, Donna New and Melinda Tackett, both of Loveland, Ohio; half-brothers, Troy Coker of New Albany, Ind., and Lenville Jeff Wainscott Jr. of Loveland; grandparents, Ernest Konkle of Vevay and Willena Wainscott of Vevay; four granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison, Ind.
