Edward Hesch, only Newport city employee given key to city
When friends and family think of Edward Hesch they remember a proud father, a hard worker and a helpful friend.
"I can honestly say I've never met anyone like him, " said Jean White, a daughter from Connecticut. "They don't have enough adjectives to describe all the wonderful things about him."
Edward C. Hesch, 89, of Newport, died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.
He was a retired assistant superintendent with the Newport Water Works and a member of Costigan American Legion Post No. 11, Newport. He was a member of the 40/8 Club, Elks and VFW posts, and was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ethel Hesch, died in 2000.
Mr. Hesch was able to help people, both at work and home, by his ability to listen, family members say.
"He had an answer for everything, " said Mrs. White. "If you had a problem, he would do everything in his power to help you solve it."
Although Mr. Hesch was an extremely hard worker - he was the only Newport city employee ever given a key to the city - he also knew how to relax and enjoy life's many blessings.
Mrs. White said Mr. Hesch was a good-humored man and the perfect mold for a father. Her most cherished memories involve spending vacations with her father watching baseball.
"I used to plan my vacations around the Reds' schedule, " she said. "We would just sit at the games and talk baseball and politics."
Other survivors include daughters Joan Furnish of Highland Heights and Jane Lunsford of Erlanger; a brother, Robert Hesch of Fort Thomas; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Edwin Moehling, professional golfer
To say that Edwin C. Moehling had a passion for golf would be an understatement.
Mr. Moehling was a member of the Professional Golfers Association and played on the PGA tour in the 1960s and on Senior tour.
Later, he was the golf host for the Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg, Ind.
"He was the Illinois state amateur champion at one time, " said his longtime friend, Mike McKeever of Villa Hills, who said Mr. Moehling had been a pro at several country clubs.
Mr. Moehling, 60, died Monday at his home in Florence.
Mr. Moehling lived on Turkeyfoot Road near Independence in the 1970s and later moved around the country. He returned to Northern Kentucky about six years ago and lived in Florence.
"I met him in the 1970s, " Mr. McKeever said. "He was a rep for Spencer's children's clothing, and my wife had a secretarial service that he used. We struck up a friendship.
"He was gregarious and laughed a lot. He just made people feel better to be around him, " Mr. McKeever said. Through the 1980s and 1990s, Mr. Moehling was a stock broker and an investment banker.
"Wherever he was, he found a job that allowed him to play golf, " Mr. McKeever said.
He started working at the Argosy casino several years ago.
"Other casinos in the area have their own golf courses so Argosy wanted to have a golf image. They joined Triple Crown Country Club, and he played golf with the high rollers, " Mr. McKeever said.
Mr. Moehling was diagnosed with lung cancer about a year ago.
"He played golf until Oct. 18, " Mr. McKeever said. "He told me he wanted to break 70. I didn't know how he could do it, he was in so much pain. He went out and shot 69. The next day, he gave his clubs away."
