Willard Brock, bread wrapper
They may not have known his name, but plenty of people in Latonia knew Willard Brock.
For years after his retirement, Mr. Brock walked all over the neighborhood, said his daughter Wilda Allen of Florence. All the people in the neighborhood knew him because they saw him walking, Ms. Allen said.
Mr. Brock, 79, of Latonia, died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired bread wrapper with Butternut Bakery in Cincinnati. He liked the job, his daughter said, noting that he stayed at Butternut for 32 years.
Mr. Brock enjoyed fishing - particularly with his children and grandchildren.
He also enjoyed his backyard garden, where, according to Ms. Allen, he grew "everything you could think of."
Ms. Allen described her father as a gentle, easygoing man who was extremely devoted to his family.
"He liked to carry on with the grandkids, " she said. "He always kept candy around for when the grandkids came over. He did everything a grandpa would do."
Survivors include his wife, Bessie U. McPheron Brock; sons, Wayne Brock of Knoxville, Tenn., Troy Brock of Fairfield, Ohio, and Bruce Brock of Latonia; a stepson, Wallace Denney of Williamstown; a daughter, Debbie Phillips of Colorado; stepdaughters, Sue Gross of Taylor Mill and Kathy Tilford of Covington; sisters, Flora Donaldson of Knoxville, Edna Reynolds of West Virginia, Lora Pruitt and Allene Ball, both of Corbin, and Lottie Miller of Elwood, Ind.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Elinor Finn Bess, 80, of Germantown, died Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.
She was a telephone operator and a member of St. Patrick School, Maysville. She was a member of Fernleaf Homemakers and a member of St. James Church, Brooksville. Her husband, Charles O'Neil Bess, died in 1986.
Survivors include daughters, Joan Wright of Union, Mary Lee of Germantown and Charlene French of Erlanger; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Brooksville.

Coleman F. Coldiron, 75, of Independence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.
Elwood Cole, 50, of Berry, died at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at his home. Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry.
Fred G. Davis, 69, of Fort Mitchell, died at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday at his home.
He was a retired maintenance supervisor with Northern Kentucky Vocational School, Park Hills, and a member of Eggleston United Methodist Church. He was a member of Devou Golf Course, and a veteran of the Air Force and Navy. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie J. Steely Davis; sons, Fred Davis Jr. of Cincinnati, Mike Davis of Covington and Terry Chapin of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Shawna Davis of Covington; brothers, Frank Davis of Lakeland, Fla., and Ron Davis of Covington; sisters, Helen Taylor and Norma Delaney, both of Covington, and Barbara Stacy of Alexandria; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Agnes Scheidel Flynn, 66, of Newport, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at her daughter's home in Covington.
She was a former owner of Poopy's Carryout, Newport, and helped operate Corpus Christi Church Bingo for more than 20 years.
She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was a member of the church Altar Society. Her husband, Edward Flynn, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Kelly Flynn of Covington and Anna Flynn of Newport; and a sister, Marilyn Sharpe of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit/St. Stephen Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Ella D. Freeman, 92, of Independence, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Edward Freeman, died in 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Irene Tapp of Independence; sons, William Freeman of Paducah, James Freeman of Sun City, Fla., Albert Freeman of Taylor Mill and John Freeman of Norwood, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Mrs. Freeman bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
John P. Graf, 82, of Indianapolis, formerly of Newport, died Thursday at Christina House in Franklin, Ind.
He was a retired employee of Indianapolis Public Schools and Troy Oil Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Newport, and a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Velma M. Graf; a daughter, Carole Marschke Spawn of Camdenton, Mo.; a son, John D. Graf of Greenwood, Ind.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Persimmon Grove Cemetery.
Flora Lamb, 97, of Walton, died Wednesday at her home.
She was a retired employee of Rosedale Manor, Latonia, and a member of First Baptist Church, Covington. She also attended Decoursey Baptist Church. Her husband, Charles Lamb, died in 1953.
Survivors include daughters, Georgia Adams of Florence, Dorothy Robbins of Crittenden, Louetta Geraci of Las Vegas and Scioto Lipscomb of Walton; a brother, William Kelley of Owensboro; a sister, Evelyn Kelley of Indianapolis; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Marlene Linville, 61, of Maysville, died Tuesday at her home. She was an employee of Burger King. Daughters, Danita Linville and Bonnie Lou Linville, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Larry Linville of Newport and David Linville of Georgetown; daughters, Geneva Watson of Mount Olivet, Mary Morris of Newport, Donna Jett of Georgetown, Patricia Wilson of Cynthiana and Pamela Beckett of Maysville; brothers, Jesse Glen Earlywine of Robertson County, Ricky Jay Earlywine of Nicholas County and Jeffrey Earlywine of Robertson County; sisters, Della Jean Quisenberry and Alice Faye Quisenberry, both of Harrison County; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Robertson Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will Fosters Chapel Cemetery.
Fannie Tapp Malone, 91, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana.
She was a homemaker, a member of Republican Christian Church and a former member of Buena Vista Homemakers. Her husband, Shirley B. Malone, and a daughter, Virginia Florence, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Wilma McIlvain of Cynthiana and Kathryn Malone of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

William Howard Marquardt, 56, of Florence, died Tuesday at his home.
He was director of operations with Time Warner Communications Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Kramer Marquardt; sons, William Charles Marquardt of Lima, Peru, and Charles Howard of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Ashley Lindemann of Florence; a stepson, Chas Lindemann of Florence; and a sister, Sharon Poole of Toledo, Ohio.

Marion D. Minahan, 90, of Fort Mitchell, died at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a retired bookkeeper with Presbyterian Children's Village, Bryn Mawr, Pa., and a member of Bromley Christian Church. She was a volunteer with Boothe Hospital, Florence. Her husband, Eugene Michael Minahan, died in 1968.
Survivors include sons, Eugene A. Minahan of Sharon Hill, Pa., and Jeremiah H. Minahan of Camp Hill, Pa.; a daughter, Marion E. Keen of Lakeside Park; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Edward John Perry, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at his home.
He was owner of Perry's Pastry in Chicago, was active in the Service Corps of Retired Executives and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Leta Perry; a son, Thomas Perry of Chicago; a daughter, Linda Lindsay of Fort Thomas; and sisters, Irene Bernero and Martha Dombkowski, both of Chicago.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Alfred "Tom" Poole, 70, of Fort Mitchell, died Tuesday at Dearborn County, Ind., Hospital.
He was a tool and die maker with Levi Strauss Co. and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. His first wife, Patsy Poole, died in 1988.
Survivors include his wife, Monica Weisenbach Poole of Fort Mitchell; a son, John Tom Poole of Lakeside Park; daughters, Cathy Samad of Burlington and Patti Schneider of Bromley; brothers, Louis Poole of Erlanger, Fred Poole of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bill Poole of Hebron and David Poole of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sisters, Mary Jo Hall of Guthrie, Pat Patterson of Fort Mitchell and Rita Nienaber of Burlington; and eight grandchildren.

Kathryn A. Eicher Ryeburn, 90, of Newport, died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a retired photographer with Carson-Webb Studio, Cincinnati. Her husband, Philip C. Ryeburn, died in 1974.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Ruth Hentz of Hudson, Fla.; three granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

William M. Schmidt, 78, of Cold Spring, died at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday at his home.
He was a contract negotiator with the federal government, a retired Army colonel and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen "Boots" Daron Schmidt; daughters, Lisa Cavanaugh of Cold Spring and Joan Donahue of Tacoma, Wash.; brothers, Raymond F. Schmidt of Cincinnati, Arthur L. Alice Williams, 87, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a retired teacher for the Kenton County Schools and was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.

Rev. Charles D. Williams, 70, of Butler, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was the minister at Tabernacle of God Church, Grants Lick, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Corena Williams of Butler; sons, Michael Williams, Ronald Williams, Clark Williams and Luke Williams, all of Butler; daughters, Diana Kiskaden of Norwalk, Ohio, Carla Blevins of Falmouth and Konnie Kells of Butler; brothers, Ralph Williams and Earl Williams, both of Middletown, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Smith of Cold Spring and Vonnie Walker of Richwood; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Randale Young, 47, of Falmouth, died Monday at his home. He was a welder with River Metal, Wilder, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Young; sons, Craig Young and Shawn Young, both of Wilder; his stepfather, Earl Mains of Florida; brothers, Harold Young of Florida and Jim Young of Alexandria; and one grandson.
Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
