Tom Wilhelm-Olsen, raced sports cars
Tom Wilhelm-Olsen loved two things: sports cars and his Norwegian heritage.
Mr. Wilhelm-Olsen, who came to the United States from Norway as a 17-year-old on July 4, 1958, never surrendered his Norwegian citizenship. In fact, he flew a Norwegian flag below the U.S. flag each May 17, Norwegian Independence Day. Norway officially broke from Sweden in 1905.
Despite being born in Norway, Mr. Wilhelm-Olsen became a Kentucky Colonel.
He also became an avid car racing enthusiast and loved sports cars.

He owned a few sports cars over the years, but had a 1965 Austin Healy 3000 that he loved, said his son, Nicholas, of Apex, N.C.
"He was real proud of it, " Nick Wilhelm-Olsen said.
Mr. Wilhelm-Olsen used to run rally races, in which competitors are given a map and directed through check points while driving cross-country. For a while, he was chief timer at a Sports Car Club of America track in mid-Ohio.
He passed his love of cars on to his children, said his son, Gregory, of Park Hills.
"Even when we were real little, we used to go to the race track. We'd go up there almost every weekend, " he said.
Mr. Wilhelm-Olsen also loved to take his sons fishing, camping and canoeing. He was treasurer of his boys' Cub Scout and Boy Scout packs.
Gregory Wilhelm-Olsen said his father had a knack for creating a sense of family.
