Randolph George, 79, photographer, teacher

Randolph George spent a lifetime taking pictures.

His scrapbooks, which spanned more than 50 years, often included subjects he found during long walks in the woods.

"He was an outdoorsman, and he just loved taking pictures, " said Raymond George, a son from Union. "Some of his favorite pictures were of flowers and spider webs."

Randolph E. George, 79, of Newport, died Sunday at his home.

He was a retired teacher with schools in Ohio and Kentucky, a retired lab tech with Newport Steel and a part-time worker with the Internal Revenue Service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. George's love for photography was surpassed only by his love of family, who often accompanied him on his long walks. Many times, they were also the subjects for his photography.

"He would take me on lots of trips, and that meant a lot of pictures, " said Raymond George. "He was a great dad."

A love of learning and children brought Mr. George back to school as a substitute teacher for 12 years when he retired from Newport Steel.

Mr. George also had a large music collection. Some of his favorite genres included classical, country and big band.

Survivors include his wife, Orpha Dixon George; a daughter, Darinda Wallace of Cincinnati; a son, Ruby Gross of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Christian Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Thomas Jerry Collett, 57, of Moyock, N.C., formerly of Dayton, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday at Chesapeake, Va., General Hospital. He was a retired Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Ann Zambella Collett; his mother, Bessie G. Collett of Florence; a brother, Darrell Collett of Independence; and sisters, Eunice Fletcher of Williamstown, Magiel Heinrich of Chicago, Loretta Hutchinson of Flint, Mich., Linda Woods of Covington and Sharon Smith and Sandra King, both of Cincinnati.

Services will be at noon Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Virginia M. Haley, 88, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Fort Wright, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers. She was the owner of Skyline Restaurant, Florence. A son, Maurice Haley, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Maurice D. Haley; a daughter, Maureen Stewart of Fort Myers; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Donald Hayden, 69, of Sadieville, died Monday at the V.A. Hospital in Lexington.

Arrangements are pending at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth.

Hazel Mae Jarman, 73, of Hebron, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her parents, Minnie and Leo Jarman of Hebron; and a brother, Cecil Jarman of Cincinnati.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Northern Kentucky Adult Day Services, 3018 Riggs Ave., Erlanger, Ky. 41018.

Jesse Walter Lacy, 60, of Owenton, died Friday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton. He was a farmer.

Survivors include sons, Timothy Lacy, Scottie Lacy, Dwayne Lacy and Jesse Walter Lacy Jr., all of Frankfort; a daughter, Pamela Lacy; a brother, Curtis Lacy of Ohio; sisters, Mari Hardin and Bernice Johnson, both of Frankfort, and Joyce Combs of Owenton; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will began there at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery.

Mildred P. Marsh, 74, of Burlington, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was an electrical wiring worker with Skilcraft Sheet Metal and a member of Bullittsville Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Kinzbach of Burlington; brothers, Melvin Anderson of Erlanger, Kenneth Anderson of Florence, and Richard Anderson and Ronald Anderson, both of Burlington; a grandson and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Pauline Matthews, 91, of Davenport, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Thursday in Davenport. She was a retired beautician and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Tarpon Springs, Fla. Her husband, Harry Matthews, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Jean Parker of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bishop Gray Inn, Davenport. Burial will be in All Saints Episcopal Church Cemetery, Tarpon Springs. Memorials are suggested to Bishop Gray Inn, 206 W. Orange St., Davenport, Fla. 33837. Lane-Holt Funeral Home, Haines City, Fla., is handling arrangements.

James "Pete" McElroy, 69, of Independence, died Sunday at his home.

He was a retired equipment operator with Shearbeauer, Cincinnati.

Survivors include a brother, Athal McElroy of Crescent Springs; and sisters, Maxine Embry and Kathy Moore, both of Independence, and Eva Hardy of Morning View.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Ethel "Louise" Miller, 79, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was retired from DuBois Towers, Cincinnati, and was a member of the Newport Eagles. Her husband, William D. Miller, died in 1968.

Survivors include a son, William D. Miller of Fort Thomas; daughters, Diana Turner of Fort Thomas and Melissa Deaton of Peach Grove; a sister, Bobbie Whit-acre of Morrow, Ohio; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Flagg Springs Baptist Church, California. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery, California.

Memorials are suggested to any animal shelter.

Paul Mulberry, 76, of Frankfort, died Monday at his farm in Corinth.

Arrangements are pending at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth.

Paul Mullins, 56, of Butler, died Monday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.

Sue Audria Ravenscraft, 97, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a retired saleswoman with housewares with H.S. Pogue Co., Cincinnati, and a member of First Baptist Church, Newport. She was a member of the church Missionary Circle and senior citizens group. Her husband, Hendrix N. Ravenscraft, died in 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Andria M. Lucas of Cape Coral, Fla.; sons, William J. Ravenscraft of Florence and Myron D. Ravenscraft of Highland Heights; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, E. Eighth and York streets, Newport, Ky. 41071.

James W. Ray, 46, of Covington, died at 12:12 a.m. Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a self-employed home improvement worker.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Ray of Covington; sons, Todd W. Ray and James W. Ray, both of Covington; a daughter, Jody Ray of Covington; his father, James I. Ray of Hampton, Ga.; a sister, Sheila Aycock of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will began there at noon. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Cora Collins Rice, 82, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Hospice Care Center, Manchester. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Revival Tabernacle, Lexington. Sons, Tommy Gene Collins and Holford L. Spivey, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Roger Collins of Lexington; a daughter, Edith Richardson of Harrison County; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington.

Betty J. Ruber, 55, of Falmouth, died at 5:23 a.m. Monday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Rasceal Ruber; sons, Darrin Ruber and Cliff Ruber, both of Butler; a sister, Carol Cobb of Falmouth; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to McDowell Cancer Center, 800 Rose St., Lexington, Ky. 40536.

Allan Eugene Warner, 16, of Cynthiana, died Sunday in Harrison County of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was a sophomore at Harrison County High School and attended Flour Creek Christian Church, Butler. A brother, David Lee Warner, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his mother, Virginia Jenkins Warner of Cynthiana; a sister, Lois Warner of Mount Sterling; and grandparents, Mary Goins and Melvin Jenkins of Cynthiana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Mary Leola Tremper Withrow, 83, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Newport. Her husband, Roy P. Withrow, died in 1993.

Survivors include sons, David Withrow of Silver Grove, Gregory Withrow of Blue Springs, Mo., and Ronald Withrow of Highland Heights; a brother, Frank Tremper of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Memorials are suggested to First Church of the Nazarene, 830 York St., Newport, Ky. 41071. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
