Ruth Ann Laker Andress, extension office president
Ruth Ann Laker Andress helped a lot of people in her lifetime.
She was a former president of the Kenton County Extension Office, where she volunteered for 25 years, helping homemakers find answers to the their home and garden questions.
She also volunteered for more than 20 years at the voting polls in Erlanger.
But even her paid work and leisure time had elements of service to them. Mrs. Andress was a kitchen helper and library assistant with St. Pius X Seminary, Erlanger, and was a member of the Beechgrove Homemakers.
"When she was active, she was doing a lot of service work. She was always helping people, " said her son, James M. Andress of Elsmere.
Mrs. Andress, 78, of Erlanger, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday at Villa Spring Nursing Home, Erlanger.
"She was a real friend, real easy-going and never judgmental, " her son said. "She always tried to be understanding."
Mrs. Andress was a Navy veteran of World War II.
She went into the Navy in her teens and worked at a telecommunications center in New York City, said her son, where she transmitted several extremely important messages during war.
Mrs. Andress met her husband, Edward L. Andress, while at the station. He was a Marine assigned to guard the facility.
Family lore has it that Mrs. Andress forgot the password to get back into the station one night and that Mr. Andress, while on guard duty, "kind of let her go in exchange for a date."
Mrs. Andress loved to sew, cross-stitch and make ceramics. She was also an excellent gardener.
Mrs. Andress attended Erlanger United Methodist Church.
Her husband died in 1995. A son, Raymond Michael Andress, died in 1970. Other survivors include daughters, Carol Ann Andress of Dayton, Ohio, and Joan Lee Andress of Erlanger; sons, Edward Joseph Andress of Cincinnati, and Richard L. Andress of Elsmere; a brother, Norman Laker of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Butsch, 90, of California, died at 3:52 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. He was a retired farmer and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church and Catholic Order of Foresters Council No. 1492, both in California.
Survivors include a brother, John Butsch of Cincinnati.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, California. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Stanley Leroy Catron, 64, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a retired chemist with Stolle Chemicals and a member of White Oak Chapel in Cincinnati. He was a former teacher with Lloyd High School and Wayne County High School in Ohio, and was a professional locksmith.
Survivors include his wife, Arveda B. Ratliff Catron; a son, Mark Catron of Florence; a daughter, Stephanie Knipper of Taylor Mill; a brother, Kenneth Catron of Alpha; and a sister, Wilma Hicks of Alpha.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to White Oak Chapel, 3260 W. North Bend Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45239.
Robert Paul Donley, 50, of Cold Spring, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a dry wall finisher for Nuway, Bellevue.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Donley; sons, Andy Donley of Fort Thomas, Rick Daniel of Alexandria, and Eric Donley and Ryan Donley, both of Cold Spring; daughters, Michelle Donley of Ohio, Amy Donley of Cold Spring and Susan Nader of Cincinnati; his mother, Geraldine Donley of Ohio; brothers, Desmond Donley of Dry Ridge and Danny Donley of Cincinnati; sisters, Judy Garrett of Cincinnati, and Della Garrett and Missy Jones, both of Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Lillian Agee Hayden, 91, of Palatka, Fla., formerly of Owenton, died Wednesday at Apple House II, Palatka. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Palatka and the Palatka Women's Club. She was a former teacher.
Survivors include a son, William Hayden of Palatka; a daughter, Carol Oswalt of Windermere, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, Palatka. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Palatka Memorial Cemetery.
Evelyn Lois Hendricks, 62, of Owenton, died Wednesday at her home. She was a legal secretary with Tranter and Meier Attorneys, Carrollton, and a seamstress.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond E. Hendricks Sr.; a son, Todd Palmer of Independence; stepsons, Raymond E. Hendricks Jr. and Joseph Eric Hendricks, both of Milltown, Ind.; sisters, Betty Witt of Goleta, Calif., Carol Cox of Louisville, Debbie Simpson of Newport, Linda Akins of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mickey Williams of Southgate; brothers, Bob Fry of Alexandria, Hudson Deaton of Bulleton, Calif., and Gary Deaton of Newport; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Bobby P. Hisle Sr., 58, of Irvine, died at 5:21 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a truck driver with Sadler Brothers Trucking and Leasing in Nashville, Tenn., and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Mae Houp Hisle; sons, Bobby P. Hisle Jr. of Verona and Michael Singleton of Ludlow; daughters, Laura Christine Bingaman of Dry Ridge and Dovie Lucy Hisle Taylor of Dayton; sisters, Lois Irene Perkins of Margate, Fla., and Mildred Sue Theodore of Florence; and four grandchildren.

Karen Hutchcraft, 39, of Wilder, died Wednesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ, Covington. Her husband, Timothy Hutchcraft, died in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Carla Mason of Erlanger; sons, Tom Norman Jr. of Fort Wright and Timothy Hutchcraft of Wilder; her parents, Raymond and Sandra Richard of Cold Spring; brothers, John Marcum Jr. of Newport, Kenneth Marcum of Bellevue, Rick Marcum of Nashville, Tenn., David Marcum of Cold Spring and Raymond Richard III of Elsmere; sisters, Kimberly Sturgeon and Koni Lambert, both of Bellevue; and four grandchildren.

Emmet O. LaPorte, 78, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Birdie May Lunsford, 89, Covington, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington. Her husband, Jesse M. Lunsford, died in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lou Cain of Fort Mitchell; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Charles Edward Muntz Sr., 75, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired employee of Bundy Corp., and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church, Cynthiana Elks Lodge No. 438 and United Auto Workers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A daughter, Sharon Ann Muntz, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Hedy Shaw Muntz; sons, Charles E. Muntz Jr. of Louisville and Danny T. Muntz of Cynthiana; daughters, Laura M. Derr of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Norma M. Rash of Crestwood; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Garnett Jones Pierce, 96, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Truman Ritchie, 74, of Ewing, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was a retired employee of General Motors, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Maysville Church of the Nazarene and United Auto Workers. His wife, Ida Pollitt Ritchie, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Faye Stephens of Harrogate, Tenn.; a son, Tommy Ritchie of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mays Lick Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Marsh Schwab, 100, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at Birchwood Care Center, Cincinnati. Her husband, Harry A. Schwab, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Hamilton and Marlene Barber of Franklin, Ohio; a son, Richard Radenheimer of Bradenton, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

John Joseph Tuemler, 81, of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 212, Cincinnati, and a former member of the Holy Name Society at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Brennan Tuemler; sons, John Joseph Tuemler Jr. of Edgewood, David Tuemler of Bradenton, Fla., Harry Tuemler of Ludlow, Thomas Tuemler of Burlington, Anthony Tuemler of Covington and James Tuemler of Erlanger; daughters, Jane Trenkamp of Fort Wright, Ruth Anne Neubacher and Esther Dirheimer, both of Edgewood, Terri Krefting of Crestview Hills and Mary Elizabeth Blevins of Burlington; a sister, Bettie Moser of Crestview Hills; 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wanda J. Welbers, 59, of Covington, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday at Jewish Hospital-Kenwood, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.

Daisy C. Williams, 94, of Latonia, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired matron with Covington Ladies Home and a companion with Upjohn. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia.
Her husband, John Williams, died in 1952. A son, John Williams, died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucy Eastep of Villa Hills; a brother, Andrew Carr of Indianapolis; a sister, Laura Wittenbrock of Indianapolis; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
