Eleanor Cooney, 'solid Catholic mother'
Eleanor Thien Cooney loved many things, especially the church and her family.
"She was a very solid Catholic mother, " said her daughter, Lois Kennedy, of Cincinnati. "She showed great support for her family and church-related activities."
Mrs. Cooney, 81, of Latonia, died at noon Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a retired bookkeeper with Familiar Finance Co., Covington and Cincinnati, and a member of Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington. She was a member of Cathedral Ladies Society, Daughters of Isabella, and Holy Cross Boosters.
She also was an avid fan of classical music and a voracious reader.
Other survivors include her husband, Eugene T. Cooney; a son, Mon signor Roger P. Cooney of Melbourne; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Harold Bailey, 76, of Erlanger, died Sunday at his home. He was a salesman with Sears and a president of the Erlanger Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Claraetta McClure Bailey; sons, Dennis Harold Bailey of Villa Hills and Michael Lane Bailey of Edgewood; daughters, Deborah Sue Williams and Kathleen Jean Copsy, both of Florence; sisters, Doris Jean Dewald of Union and Rita Rae Hartke of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brothers, William Bailey of Columbia, Mo., and Charles Ray Bailey of Tennessee; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Lions Club, 5996 Belair Drive, Erlanger 41017.
Ramon W. "Jiggs" Bess, 71, of Maysville, died Monday at his home.
He was a retired owner of Bess Grocery, Highland Heights, and a member of New Hope Christian Church, Maysville.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Pickrell of Maysville, Peggy Kratz of Miami, Fla., Tracy Rigg of Germantown; sons, Glenn Bess of Brooksville, Tim Bess and Troy Bess, both of Maysville; his mother, June Bess of Maysville; brothers, Marion Bess and Jack Bess, both of Germantown; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. James Cleophes Blanton, 71, of Williamstown, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was retired from General Die Casting, Detroit, and a Marine Corps Korean War veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley McBee Blanton; sons, Richard Blanton of New York and James Blanton of Michigan; stepsons, Charles Little of Central City and Allan Little of Williamstown; a daughter, Vickie Menzies of Michigan; stepdaughters, Karen Lanham and Sandra Mann, both of Williamstown; brothers, Thurman Blanton of Hazel Park, Mich., and George Blanton of Utica, Mich.; sisters, Marie Brock of Michigan, Mary McCormick of Madisonville, Dora Hemminger of Detroit and Joyce Dawadoski of Hazel Park; and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Robert E. Bradford, 79, of Rockwall, Wash., died there Friday. He was a retired salesman with a commercial glass company. His wife, Mary Corbin Bradford, died in 2000.
Survivors include a son, Bob Bradford of St. Louis; and daughters, Nancy Gunderson of Mariposa, Calif., and Laura Tagge of Wenatchee, Wash.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.
Verna Brewer, 85, of Owenton, died Saturday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton. She was a retired cook with Johnson's Smorgasbord.
Survivors include daughters, Jean Brewer Townsend of Owenton and Judy Brewer Bickel of Keokuk, Iowa; a sister, Jettie Lykins of Campton; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. McDonald Funeral Homes, Owenton, is handling arrangements.
Anna Feuser, 89, of Covington, died today at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Ruby F. Goodridge, 83, of Hebron, died at 11:21 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired saleswoman for Grant's department store and a member of Constance Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Goodridge; sons, Stanley Ray Goodridge of Sebastian, Fla., and Larry Goodridge of Hebron; a brother, Charles Hodges of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Wayne Adrian Hollander, 64, of Villa Hills, died Monday at his home. He was a retired chemist with Andrew Jergens Corp., Cincinnati, and a retired lieutenant colonel with the Army. He was a member of Bright Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Hollander; sons, Bradford Hollander and Gregory Hollander, both of Cincinnati; stepsons, Gary Potts and Nicholas Potts, both of Villa Hills; and a stepdaughter, Valerie Potts of Villa Hills.

Dorothy Ann Lusher, 73, of Cincinnati, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard Lusher; daughters, Joyce Moore of Mason, Ohio, Bev Baum and Denise Wilts, both of Cincinnati; a son, Jim Lusher of Cincinnati; a brother, Ralph Meyer of Belleview; a sister, Rita Hoffstedder of Dayton; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Ruth C. Meier, 83, of Villa Hills, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.
She was an office clerk with Shillito's. Her husband, Harry J. Meier, and a son, John Meier, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Meier of Burlington; daughters, Joanne Gibbs of Taylerville, Ill., Paulette Meier of Cincinnati and Terri Lonnemann of Fort Mitchell; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Henrietta E. Schneider Pate, 82, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a beautician with several area nursing homes and a former member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Her husband, Roy Pate, and a daughter, Geraldine Minning, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnne Meyer of Erlanger; brothers, Anthony Schneider of Independence and Joseph Schneider of Covington; a sister, Clare Lee McMahon of Fort Thomas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Mrs. Pate bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Nina "Bea" Louise Siler, 69, of Covington, died at 12:35 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired nursing assistant with Rosedale Manor, Latonia, and a member of Berry Christian Church.
Survivors include a sister, Wanda Townsend; daughters, Jackie Howard of Clermont County, Ohio, and Gina Siler of Covington; sons, Thomas Siler of Burlington, Kevin Siler of Covington and David Siler of Hebron; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Mrs. Siler bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Frances J. Valentine, 80, of Crittenden, died Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Leonard Valentine, and a son, Jimmy Bachelor, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Robert Valentine of Columbus, Ind., Charles Valentine of Tennessee, Bill Valentine of Cincinnati, Steven Valentine of Crittenden and Rick Valentine of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Cleo Eltzroth Michaels of Wisconsin; a brother, Emmet Eltzroth of Lebanon, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Alvera M. Talbert Weber, 86, of Alexandria, died at 10:47 a.m. Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Adam Weber, died in 2000.
Survivors include a son, Norb Berkemeyer of Fort Thomas; a daughter, Kathy Perkins of Alexandria; a brother, Paul Talbert of Covington; sisters, Rita Pope and Rosemary Seimer, both of Villa Hills; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Iva R. Ziegler, 84, of Edgewood, died Saturday at Lakeridge Village Care Center, Cincinnati. She was a beautician. Her husband, Emmert Ziegler, died in 1956.
