Matthew Ashcraft, costume designer
Matthew Joseph Ashcraft seized the chance to do what he enjoyed in life.
He was a theatrical costume designer with Disney World, the Baltimore Opera Co., Paramount's Kings Island, the Troika Co. in New York and Playhouse in the Park, Cincinnati.
And when he wasn't working, he was designing clothes for fashion dolls or watching theater.
"We went to New York at least twice a year just to go see shows on Broadway, " said his longtime companion, Richard Bryant.

Mr. Ashcraft, 35, of Covington, died of cancer at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at a friend's home.< p> Mr. Ashcraft designed costumes for shows including "Carousel" and "The Sound of Music" as well as numerous shows for the Baltimore Opera.
"He's always been interested in theater, since high school, " said Mr. Bryant, noting that Mr. Ashcraft attended Beechwood High School. He attended the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. He left UC before graduating and started a design business with a partner in Orlando.
Most recently, he wanted to design clothing for fashion dolls as a career.
"He had a colorful life, " Mr. Bryant said.
"He was very generous, very sure of himself, very outgoing. He just enjoyed all aspects of life."
He was close to his brothers and sisters. "He was greatly loved by his family and me and will be greatly missed, " Mr. Bryant said.
Survivors include his mother, Carolyn F. Thornsburg Ashcraft of Crescent Springs; brothers, Jack Parker Ashcraft Jr. and Tracy Ashcraft, both of Crescent Springs, and Mark Kelly Ashcraft of Latonia; and sisters, Linda Lassetter of Middletown, Ohio, and Robyn Casey of Latonia.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Augusta K. "Gusty" Thomas Beck, 77, of Alexandria, died at 10:48 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a farmer and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. She was a former member of the church council. A son, Carl Beck II, died in 2000.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne C. Beck; a son, John Beck of Newport, Wash.; daughters, Mary Beck of Odessa, Fla., Duane Sublett of San Diego, Geneva Reimer of Independence and Viki Beck of Erlanger; a brother, Walter Thomas of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; Emma Croxson of Alexandria; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Alexandria. Visitation will begin there at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1 N. Jefferson St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.
Richard Thomas Boggs, 71, of Cincinnati, died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired Greyhound bus driver, and a former employee of the B&O; Railroad. A son, Bradley Thomas Boggs, died in 1966.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Marshall Boggs; and two sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Laverne Callahan, 57, of Williamstown, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
William J. Combs, 70, of Elsmere, died Tuesday at her son's home in Florence. He w as a production control worker with Husky-Burndy, a member of Ludlow Vets and a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Coby Combs; sons, Bill J. Combs Jr. and Joseph M. Combs, both of Florence, and Don A. Combs of Cincinnati; a sister, Nancy Haup of Fort Wright; a brother, Joseph Combs of Melbourne, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Tom Everman, 59, of Independence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Anna May Feuser, 89, of Latonia, died Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a retired inspector with Formica Corp. and a member of St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill. She was a retired cashier with White Castle and McDonald's restaurants, and a concession worker with the Cincinnati Reds. Her husband, John Feuser, died in 1979.
Survivors include a son, John Feuser of Alexandria; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
M. Elizabeth Henneberger, 94, of Bellevue, died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a secretary with Shinley Distillery and a member of Newport Central Christian Church and First Christian Church of Fort Thomas. She was a member of Gertrude Chapter No. 19 Order of the Eastern Star, Covington Shrine No. 10 and the Cincinnati Association for the Blind.
Survivors include her husband, Russell G. Henneberger.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Marie Jones, 93, of Florence, died Tuesday at her home. She was a seamstress with Hinline Brothers Co. and a member of First Church of Christ, Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter, Bettie Jones of Florence; a brother, James Hurst of Independence; and a sister, Lillie Obel of Covington.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Forest Lawn Mausoleum Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum. Lewis Earl "Birdie" Robinson, 89, of Bellevue, died at 10:34 a.m. Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was a machine operator with Kirk & Bloom Co., Cincinnati, a member of VFW Post No. 2734 and FOE No. 1564, Maysville, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Elizabeth Mildred Robinson, died in 2000.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Olivet Church Cemetery, Maysville.
Howard Sebastian, 49, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at his home. He was a produce worker for The Castillini Company, Wilder.
Survivors include his sisters, Thelma Moyer of Fort Thomas, Shirley Herald of of Booneville and Wilma Saylor and Wanda Bowling, both of Southgate; and brothers, Kash Sebastian of Newport, John Sebastian of Butler and Mike Sebastian of Booneville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Macedonia Old Regular Baptist Church, Breathitt Couty. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Hannah Cemetery, Breathitt County.
Margaret Lillian Stewart, 82, of Covington, died Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.
