Donald Cole, always helped others

Donald Cole lived a life dedicated to helping people.

Whether it was working with children as a guidance counselor or participating in church activities, Cole was always ready with a helping hand.

"He really liked working with kids, " said his wife, Nancy Norris Cole. "And at church, every time the door was open, he was there helping out in some way."

Donald Louis Cole, 70, of Cold Spring, died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired guidance counselor and a deacon at First Baptist Church, Newport.

Cole began his career as a guidance counselor with the Cincinnati Public School system, helping junior high and high school students prepare for jobs and college.

When he retired, he took a job with the Newport Public School system, this time working with grade-school children.

"The little ones needed more guidance, " said Mrs. Cole. "He loved working with them, though. He just thought they were so cute."

Cole's hobbies included woodworking, fishing and traveling. For years he took annual fishing trips to Canada with his friends. When he was younger, Cole, an avid music fan, would often travel great distances to see his favorite musician, Pete Wagner, with several of his close friends.

"All of his friends are going to miss him very much, " Mrs. Cole said.

Other survivors include a brother, Col. Kenneth Cole, retired from the U.S. Air Force, of Newport.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Eighth and York streets, Newport, Ky. 41071.

Gary Lee Barlow, 44, of Newport, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a pressman with Zumbiel Box Company, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Barlow of Tooele, Utah; sons, Michael Barlow of Florence and Robert Barlow and Kenneth Barlow, both of Tooele, Utah; father, Charles Fulmer of Newport; sisters, Renee Roenker of Park Hills and Gina Burgin of Newport; and brother, William Fulmer of Newport.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Evergreen cemetery Mausoleum, Southgate.

Katherine R. Bellew, 77, of Fort Wright, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She retired from Cinergy, then later retired as office manager from a doctor's office. She was a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in the Cardiology Unit, and was a member of the Covington Art Club. Her husband, Raymond C. Bellew Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Raymond C. Bellew of Villa Hills; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling the arrangements.

George H. Brill, 88, of Cincinnati and formerly of Covington, died at 7:50 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington Care Center, Anderson Township, Ohio. He was a retired welder with Southern Viaduct, Ludlow. His wife, Tennessee Brill, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons, Mike Brill and Danny Brill, both of Covington; daughter, Karen Brill of Walton; brothers, Walt Brill and Ed Brill, both of New Richmond, Ohio; and sisters, Norene Brill and Florine Brill, both of New Richmond, Ohio.

There will be no services. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling the arrangements.

Earnest Lowell Brown, 59, of Owenton, died Sunday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. He was a retired school teacher and a member of Fayette Chapel United Baptist Church, Lexington.

Survivors include his daughter, Christina Brown Wells of Owensboro; brothers, William J. Brown of Breckinridge, Texas, Sam Cox of Ashland and James David Cox of Lexington; and sister, Malinda Murray of Lexington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brown Family Cemetery, Morgan County. Memorials are suggested to Owen County Little League Baseball Program, c/o Eugene Young, P.O. Patricia Ann Brown, 46, of Newport, died Friday at her home. She was a cashier.

Survivors include her mother, Anna Mae Brown of Newport; sister, Brenda Sue Brown of Newport; and brother, Charles Alfred Brown of Newport.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, Newport. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Baptist Church, Fifth Street and Park Avenue, Newport, Ky. 41071.

Elizabeth Hay Childs, 89, of Maysville, died at 5:25 a.m. Monday at Maysville Extended Care Facility. She was a retired clerk for J.C. Penney and Company retail store, Maysville and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Maysville. Her husband, Isaac Nelson Childs Jr., died in 1979.

Survivors include her brother, Conrad Hay of Maysville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Robert Dahms Sr., 80, of Covington, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired truck driver for Budig-Western and the George E. Fern Company, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Teamsters Local No. 100.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Dahms Jr. of Walton and Mark Dahms Sr. of Covington; daughters, Brenda Noel and Sandra Morgan, both of Independence; sister, Henrietta Maybrier of Cape Coral, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Antioch.

Hubert Doyle, 17, of Germantown, died Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a student at Mason County High School and a member of Future Farmers of America.

Survivors include his parents, Davvid Earl Doyle and Earie Marie Doyle, both of Germantown; sisters, Marsha Doyle of Vanceburg, Jane Ware of Sardis and Beatrice Doyle and Regina Slone, both of Ewing; brothers, Garland Smith Jr. and Jonathon Doyle, both of Germantown; and maternal grandparents, Garland and Lonnia Smith, both of Germantown.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Maysville.

Ray Edwin Duncan, 83, of Union and formerly of Fort Mitchell, died at 5:20 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired vice president with Peoples Liberty Bank, Covington, a World War II and Korean War veteran of the Air Force, and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell and the Fort Mitchell Country Club. His wife, Thelma T. "Sally" Duncan, died in 1994.

Survivors include his daughters, Karen Duncan of New York, N.Y., and Terri Rallenkotter of Union; sister, Lucille Rusk of Crescent Springs; and one grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn cemetery Mausoleum, Erlanger. There will be no visitation. Joshua Edward Cameron Eichenberger, four months, of Latonia, died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Survivors include his mother, Heather Eichenberger of Latonia; and maternal grandparents, Donald and Connie Eichenberger of Latonia.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Michael K. Feller, 50, of Cincinnati, died Sunday at Westside Health Care Center, Cincinnati. He was an auto mechanic for Tuffy Muffler Shop, Cincinnati, member of Valley Brothers Association, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his daughter, Christine Clawson of Wasau, Wisc.; sons, Michael J. Feller of Antigo, Wisc., and Alex K. Feller and Adam M. Feller, both of Tigard, Ore.; father, Adam Frank Feller of Gulfport, Miss.; brothers, Frank Feller of Lincoln, Neb., Ron Feller of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Jeff Feller of Columbus, Ohio, David Feller of Bettsville, Ohio, Donnie Lynam of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and John Rice of Madeira, Ohio; sisters, Virginia Carroll of Springfield Township, Ohio, Georgie "Betty" Mullenix of Warsaw, Lori Thompson of Sevierville, Tenn., and Cindy Feller of Williamsburg, Ohio; and a granddaughter.

Gale D. Hall, 52, of Elsmere, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Hall of Elsmere; sons, Raymond Hall III, Ronald Brent Hall and Shawn Aaron Hall, all of Elsmere; brothers, Gary Wayne May of Taylor Mill and Mark Hall and Adam Hall, both of Newport; sister, Jean Hewitt of Northside, Ohio; and two granddaughters.

Abe Hamilton Jr., 91, of Falmouth, died Monday at his home. He was the owner of Abe and Clara's Bait Shop and a member of Concord Methodist Church, Brooksville. A daughter, Doris Jean Hess, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Hamilton of Falmouth; son, James G. Hamilton of Falmouth; daughters, Geneva Caldwell of Butler and Lois Ann Hicks of Fort Thomas; brother, Tommy Hamilton of Independence; sister, Stella McDowell of Falmouth; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cookendorfer Cemetery, Kincaid Lake State Park.

Mary Elizabeth "Hinken" Hartman, 76, formerly of Hebron, died Sunday at Woodspoint, Florence. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, George Steven Hartman of Florence; daughters, Julie Ann Jones of Hebron and Michelle Gay Tieke of Erlanger; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Jane R. Hiltz, 74, of Fort Mitchell, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired secretary at Pacific Mutual Insurance Company, Cincinnati and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell and Senior Citizens 55-Plus Club, Fort Mitchell.

Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Anne Hiltz of Erlanger and Virginia Hiltz of Crestview Hills; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. Catherine White Holleran, 81, of Brooksville, died Monday at her home. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Brooksville.

Survivors include her sons, Don Holleran of Aransas Pass, Texas, Larry Holleran of Dixie, Ga., and Alan Holleran of Brooksville; daughter, Ellen Gosney of Brooksville; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Guy F. Moody, 70, of Lutz, Fla., and formerly of Covington, died at 6:54 a.m. Tuesday at Hospice House, New Port Richey, Fla. He was a retired press erector for Heidelberg Harris Publication.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Moody of Lutz; daughters, Deborah Hines of Cincinnati, Connie Pierson of Land O' Lakes, Fla., Audra Tedford of Atlanta, Ga., and Beverly Thomas of Tucker Ga.; sister, Edna Bowin of Williamstown; and five grandchildren.

Daniel J. Schnorbus, 46, of Florence, died Friday at his home. He was a retired dock worker.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Jo Flick of Edgewood, Ann Wilford of Florence and Jean Schnorbus of Alexandria, Va.; and brothers, Paul Schnorbus of Crittenden, Thomas Schnorbus of Petersburg, Mark Schnorbus of Cincinnati, John Schnorbus and David Schnorbus, both of Erlanger, and Michael Schnorbus and Michael Schnorbus, both of Florence.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Melvin P. Schuerman, 81, of Fort Mitchell, died at 2:24 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was the owner of Melvin Fine Cars.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Schuerman of Fort Mitchell; son, Wayne Schuerman of Hebron; daughter, Debra Ann Jones of Florence; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Walter Paul Skerczak, 53, of Fort Mitchell, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a conductor with CSX Railroad.

Survivors include his daughter, Racael Skerczak of Fort Mitchell; son, Nick Skerczak of Fort Mitchell; and brothers, Bill Skerczak of Montreal, Canada, and John Skerczak of Los Angeles, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. April 23 at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel United Methodist Church, Pastor's Helping Hand Fund, 2551 Dixie Highway, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017.

Lucille Smith, 74, of Walton, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton.

Oscar Spradling, 88, of Fairfield, Ohio, and formerly of Harrison County, died Monday at Tri-County Extended Care Center, Fairfield. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Winton Church of God. His wife, Helen Virginia Dennis Spradling, died in 2000.

Survivors include his sons, Max Spradling, Joe Spradling and Glen Spradling, all of Fairfield; daughter, Phyllis Horn of Fairfield; brother, Danny Spradling of Middletown, Ohio; sisters, Joyce Schubert and Betty Hardy, both of Middletown; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. WednesdayA18 at Avance Funeral Home, Fairfield. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Local services will be at 2 p.m. ThursdayA19 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Local visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home. ky.obit Reverend Charlie B. Walters, 65, of Williamstown, died today following a long illness at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

ky.obit Joseph Williams, 62, of Carrollton, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was retired from Reliance Electric, Madison, Ind., was a veteran of the Navy and a member Carrollton First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Michael J. Williams of Carrollton; and a brother, James Williams of Lee Summit, Missouri.

Services will be at 11 a.m. WednesdayA18 at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery, Ghent.
