George Kyle was Newport firefighter
George E. Kyle was tough. He never backed away from a challenge and he made sure his kids knew right from wrong.
"He didn't accept shortcomings, " said his son, Bill Kyle of Southlake, Texas.
Still, his children knew they were loved. "It was what you would call tough love, " Bill Kyle said.
Mr. Kyle, 92, of Newport, died Saturday in Grapevine, Texas.
He was a retired building inspector with the state of Kentucky, a former Newport firefighter and a safety engineer with General Electric Jet Engine Division, Cincinnati. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Mr. Kyle served on the Newport Life Squad for about 15 years and delivered several babies.
"One was a preemie, and the mother named the baby after him, " his son said.
Bill Kyle said his father also enjoyed target shooting and was an excellent marksman and an avid gun collector who usually owned 25 to 30 guns at a time.
"He had an old Colt .45 that was a favorite that he gave to me many years ago, " his son said.
"He also had an original German luger. Those were kind of collector's items."
Mr. Kyle's wife, Cleona Smith Kyle, died in 1989. A son, Walter Kyle, also preceded him in death.
In addition to his son, survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Hornsby of Alexandria; another son, Edmund Kyle of Hebron; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Raymond W. Ahlers, 92, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.
He was a draftsman with Globe-Werneke Co., Cincinnati, and an employee of the Cincinnati Recreation Department.
He also was a member and usher at St. Therese Church in Southgate, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Thompson Ahlers; and a nephew, George E. Willenbrink Jr. of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Burial will be in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Wesley Mae Baker, 82, of Newport, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a waitress with Mills Restaurant, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a brother, Richard "Polly" Baker of Vienna, W.Va.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Phyllis Ann Behle, 62, of Fort Mitchell, died Saturday at her home.
She was a clerk with Firstar Bank and a retired employee of Federal Reserve Bank, Cincinnati.
Survivors include daughters, Laura Perry of Burlington and Lisa Gaines of Madison, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Mary E. Welsh Braun, 85, of Southgate, died at 11:10 a.m. Saturday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired AT&T; employee and a member of the Legion of Mary at St. Therese Church, Southgate.
She also was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the Ladies Auxiliary of John R. Little VFW Post No. 3186, Southgate. Her husband, Howard E. Braun, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, John William Braun of Southgate; a sister, Ann Groh of Southgate; brothers, Thomas Welsh of Fort Thomas and William Welsch of Hamilton, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Audrey M. Dobbs, 53, of Ludlow, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.< p> She was a housekeeper with Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her father, Hurstle Dobbs of Ludlow; and a brother, Rick Dobbs of Ludlow.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Peaceful Rose Cemetery, Oneida, Tenn.
Anna Mae Goldsberry, 96, of Ludlow, died at 11 p.m. Saturday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow, and St. Cecilia Auxiliary No. 41, Newport. Her husband, Edward Goldsberry, died in 1941. A daughter, Wanda Stratman, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Norma Jean Hewling of Florence and Patricia Ann Orr of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Margaret Hughes Harrington, 55, of Covington, died Wednesday at her home.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, George W. Harrington Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Shanntana Roberts of Covington; and sons, George Harrington III of Covington and Frank H. Harrington of Cincinnati.

Ramona June Stephens Hesselman, 66, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a retired teacher with Boone County Schools and a former traffic manager with Cincinnati Bell.
She also was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia, the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, the Boone County Education Association and the Young at Heart Group at Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Martin Hesselman; daughters, Rebecca A. Courtney of Florence and Catherine L. Clayton of Independence; brothers, Wayne Stephens of Oxnard, Calif., Harold Stephens of Fort Thomas, Leslie Stephens of Verona, Robert Stephens of Latonia, K. Dale Stephens of Florence and Howard Linden "Pete" Stephens of Edgewood; and six grandchildren.

Danny L. Lancaster, 47, of Erlanger, died Saturday at his home.
He was an assembler with H. K. Systems and a member of Erlanger United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Lancaster; a son, Danny Lee Lancaster Jr. of Erlanger; his parents, David C. and Helen L. Lancaster, both of Erlanger; a sister, Linda Herbstreit of Walton; and a brother, Mike Lancaster of American Samoa.

Fred H. McClure, 85, of Taylor Mill, died at 1:10 a.m Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati, and a member of Covington Moose Lodge No. 1469. His wife, Anna Katherine McClure, died in 1969. A son, Nicholas McClure, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons, Richard McClure of Oxford, Ohio, Terry McClure of Fort Wright, Derf McClure of Union and Benny McClure of Dry Ridge; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
