Jane Cavana, school secretary

Jane L. Cavana believed in helping people and animals.

Mrs. Cavana made herself available to help family and friends. And she donated generously to animal rights organizations, said a son, Jim Cavana of Fort Thomas.

"She never did anything for herself. She always helped other people, " her son said.

Mrs. Cavana, 83, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at her home. She was a secretary with Bellevue and Beechwood high schools and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Thomas.

Mrs. Cavana was a private person but nonetheless helped others, her son said.

"Her life revolved around caring for others. And she did enjoy animals, all kind of animals, " Cavana said.

Mrs. Cavana also is survived by another son, Jeff Cavana of Baton Rouge, La.; a brother, Robert A. Brunson of Highland Heights; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 3 Chalfonte Place, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Anna Fredrick Arenstein, 82, of Indian Wells, Calif., formerly of Newport, died March 6 in Indian Wells.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Arenstein, died in 1994.

Survivors include sons, Randy Arenstein of Palos Verdes, Calif., and Daryl Arenstein of Bothell, Wash.; and sisters, Esther L. Ballard of Fort Thomas, Wanda Smith of Independence and Dorothy Lanthorne of Newport.

Services will be at convenience of the family. Burial will be in Indian Wells.

Memorials are suggested to Newport High School Alumni Association, 900 E. Sixth St., Newport, Ky. 41071.

Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Marie Rosalie Cromer Bergman, 86, of Lakeside Park, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

She was a retired receptionist and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell, the church Senior Citizens group and Senior Citizens of Lakeside Park. Her husband, Theodore William Bergman, died in 1983. A son, William Joseph Bergman, died in 1968.

Survivors include sons, Barry W. Bergman of Fort Wright and Mark Bergman of Independence; a daughter, Rosalie Ashton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia Church, Independence. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.

Danielle Renee Brooks, daughter of Cassandra Fay Brooks of Warsaw, was stillborn Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Other survivors include grandparents, William and Dorothy Scudder of Warsaw.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Warsaw Cemetery. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling arrangements.

Sallie M. Chambers, 67, of Independence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a registered nurse with Healthcare Review and a member of Independence Christian Church. Her husband, Roy Chambers, died in 1992. A daughter, Sarah Ann Chambers, died in 1968.

Survivors include daughters, Susan M. Chambers of Independence and Karen M. O'Donnell of Ramstein, Germany; sons, Paul T. Chambers of Fort Stewart, Ga., and David R. Chambers of Independence; a sister, Mary Lou McEndre of Russellville; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

George Champlin, 78, of Hebron, died at 5:50 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Kentucky State Highway Department.

Survivors include sisters, Janie Kirby of Florence and Minnie Smith of Oregonia, Ohio; a niece, Paula McGlasson, with whom he lived; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bullittsburg Baptist Church Cemetery, Boone County.

Memorials are suggested to the church or charity of the donor's choice.

Gladys "Babe" Thompson Curless, 75, of Latonia, died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

She was a retired employee of Premier Co., Covington. Her first husband, James Thompson, died in 1992. Her second husband, Harold Curless, died in 1997.

Survivors include a son, James Thompson of Independence; stepsons, Gary Curless of Grand Rapids, Mich., Larry Curless of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Sue Younger of Crittenden; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Larry Marvin Davis, 63, of Brooksville, died Monday at his home.

He was a farmer and a member of Powersville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Jett Davis; sons, Thomas Davis of Maineville, Ohio, and Victor Davis of Brooksville; a daughter, Kathy Lou Howard of Brooksville; a sister, Donna Carol Gifford of Aberdeen, Ohio; a brother, Philip "Pete" Davis of West Union, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Powersville Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Seth Jacob Gibson, 7 weeks, California, died Saturday at Children's Hospital Medic al Center, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his parents, Norbert and Melissa Gibson, both of California; brothers, Raymond Gibson and Preston Gibson, both of California; sisters, Nicole Gibson, Alicia Gibson, Samantha Gibson and Tessa Gibson, all of California; grandparents, Joyce and Hobert Grubb of California, Raymond Gibson of Cold Spring and Shirley Wolfe of Cincinnati; and great-grandfather, Norbert Gierach of Cincinnati.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery, Carthage.

Dora Ann Gross, 65, Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Earl Gross; daughters, Jean Beach of Taylor Mill, Earlene Johnson of Newport, Janice Freking of Independence, Marti Gross of Cincinnati, Alice Southwood, Tina Gross, Pam Chester and Sharon Spaulding, all of Newport; sons, Willard Gross, Earl C. Gross, John Edward Gross and Billy Gross, all of Newport; two brothers, six sisters, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mabel Fay Given Holgate, 77, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Randy Given of Sunman, Ind.; a daughter, Connie McMullen of Union; brothers, Homer Lower of Dry Ridge and Stanley Lower of Greendale, Ind.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Broadridge Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Maybelle Collins Boling Kearns, 84, of Maysville, died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.

She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Mason County RSVP. She was a member of Limestone Homemaker, a seamstress with Modern Laundry in Maysville, and attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Maysville. Her hus band, Otis Lee Kearns Sr., died in 1991. A son, William B. Boling, died in 1942.

Survivors include sons, Tommy Boling of Defiance, Ohio, and Kenneth Boling of Peoria, Ill.; a daughter, Janet Osgood of Maysville; a stepson, Oris Lee Kearns Jr. of Independence; stepdaughters, Ann Simms of Tollesboro and Ramona Rich of Cleveland; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Maysville cemetery Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Elsie Katherine Lainhart, 80, of Mount Olivet, died Sunday at Robertson County Health Care Center in Mount Olivet.

She was a homemaker. A son, Essie A. Lainhart, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Eal Lainhart of Russellville, Ohio; a sister, Lena Evans of Ohio; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery.

Floyd R. Pope, 78, of Falmouth, died Sunday at a friend's home in Berry.

He was a retired employee of Wiedemann Brewing Co., Newport, and attended Turner Ridge Baptist Church in Falmouth and Riverview Baptist Church, Berry. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. His wife, Charlotte Ann Tomlin Pope, died in 1997.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Pope of Florence; and a sister, Martha Morehead of Demossville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Mary Lee Presser, 69, of Verona, died at 2:10 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Verona.

Survivors include her husband, Paul A. Presser; sons, David P. Presser of Cincinnati, Robert L. Presser and Randall H. Presser, both of Verona, and Steven P. Presser of Goshen, Ohio; daughters, Paula F. Presser of Florence, Pamela J. Arnold of Hebron and Susan E. Moss of Crittenden; brothers, Harold Bare of St. Petersburg, Fla., Herbert Bare of Palmetto, Fla., and Richard Bare of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Belleview Baptist Cemetery.

Ward Roger Rice, of Florence, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati.

He was a estimator with Erlanger Lumber, a member of Florence United Methodist Church, and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Goldie Rice of Florence; a daughter, Coreta Cheesman of Walton; sons, Dr. Ward Richard Rice of Edgewood and Michael R. Rice of Nicholasville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence.

Millard Bob Roberts, 78, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was president of Community Cab Co., Elsmere, and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Lorene Roberts; a daughter, Joyce Ann Montgomery of New Castle, Ind.; a son, Jack Roberts of Florence; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Irma Struck, 75, of Newport, died Friday in Katy, Texas.

She was a retired teacher with Cincinnati Public Schools.

Survivors include a daughter, Le Anne Butts of Katy; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

E. Warner Walton, 87, of Belleview, died at 1:25 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was owner of a repair shop and a member of Methodist Church, Flemingsburg.

Survivors include his wife, Lee Walton; a stepson, Ray F. Kidd of Manchester, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Melissa Burns of Petersburg; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.
