Thera 'Buck' Brockman, lived for his grandkids
Thera "Buck" Brockman loved to cut up, and he lived for his grandkids, said his son James Brockman, of Covington.
"He was the foundation of our family. He was my buddy. He was fantastic, " the younger Mr. Brockman said.
Mr. Brockman, 73, of Covington, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday at home. He was a retired employee of Wiedemann Brewery, and a member of Covington Masonic Lodge No. 109, F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of Covington. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Brockman liked to tinker in his garage and build cars. He helped his twin grandsons, Jeff and Ron - Jeff Brockman's nephews - start getting their hands greasy at about age 5. He bought them their first tool sets when they were about 6.
He built the boys - who lived next door - a ladder so they could cross the fence to his yard when they were still small, Mr. Brockman said. They called it the "escape route to grandpa's house." The elder Mr. Brockman was of instrumental in helping another grandson decide to join the Army.
"Dad was just so proud of him for joing the Army, " Mr. Brockman said.
The elder Mr. Brockman was also proud of James Brockman's son, Justin, especially when the boy, who was born in Korea, made his citizenship at age 4.
"He absolutely loved his kids. And we loved him very dearly, " Mr. Brockman said.
"He was a good man. When I was growing up, he always told me, 'Treat people the way you would want to be treated, and you'll have a lot of friends.' He had a lot of friends, " Mr. Brockman said.
In addition to his son James Edward Brockman, of Covington, survivors include his wife, Johnie Mae Brockman; a daughter, Patricia D. Young of Covington; sisters, Baliere Race and Nada Webster, both of Covington; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Everett Baker, 56, of Boone County, died at 6:47 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.
Wayne Doug Breeden, 64, of Williamstown, died at noon Sunday at his home of injuries suffered while working with a team of draft horses on his farm.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Clifford Pryor Crouch, 91, of Dry Ridge, died Friday at his home. He was a retired bulk and bottled gas distributor.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Crouch; a daughter, Carolyn Bledsoe of Warsaw; a son, William Crouch of Fort Myers, Fla.; a stepson, Craig Gaines of Glencoe; a stepdaughter, Billie Cahill of Dry Ridge; sisters, Marjorie Baker of Warsaw and Audrey Spencer of Walton; a brother, Joe Crouch of Fort Mitchell; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Gallatin County.
Willnetta Edwards, 70, of Demossville, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a farmer and a homemaker. Her husband, Jeff Edwards, died in 1989.
Survivors include sons, Michael Edwards of Tampa, Fla., William Edwards of Williamstown, Johnny Edwards of Morning View and Joe Edwards of Gardnersville and Edward Edwards of Falmouth; daughters, Joan Burdine of Verona, Kathy Hess and Brenda Smith, both of Williamstown, Beverly Spegal of Demossville, Linda Dunn of Erlanger, Lisa Richey of Fort Wright and Lori Edwards of Latonia; a brother, Orville Epperson of Florence; 36 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Dorothy Hacker, 78, of Covington, died at 2:42 a.m. Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

Alta Louise Hahn, 81, of Union, died Sunday at her daughter's home in Waxhaw, N.C.

Daniel Ross "D. R." Johnson, 81, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He was owner of Johnson-McDaniel Furniture Co. and a deacon with Cynthiana Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine "Kitty" Farmer Johnson; a stepdaughter, Ann Ross Meyers of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Frances Johnson of Lexington; and two step-grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Sherwood Leslie Jump, 73, of Mount Zion, died of cancer Sunday at his home. He was a retired farmer and a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include brothers, Stanley Bernard Jump of Spokane, Wash., Ray Ervin Jump of Independence and Donald E. Jump of Ponca City, Okla.

John Robert Kennedy, 79, of Elsmere, died Thursday at his home. He was a retired PBX installer for Cincinnati Bell, a member of Simon Kenton American Legion Post and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kennedy of Elsmere; sons, Michael Kennedy of Batavia, Ohio, Danny Kennedy of Lexington, Dennis Kennedy of Fort Mitchell, Tim Kennedy of Edgewood and Pat Kennedy and Kevin Kennedy, both of Independence; daughters, Ellen Bacon of Hendersonville, N.C., Christina Daniel of Elsmere, Mary Chaney of Richwood and Kelly Rose of Hebron; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

John Lucas, 73, of Fort Mitchell, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. He was a warehouseman with Cincinnati Terminal. His wife, Dessie Pearl Lucas, died in 1996.

Daniel S. Morgan, 75, of Newport, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired foreman with Kent Cabinets, Bellevue, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Virginia Morgan, died in 1990.
Survivors include daughters, Virginia Parrott of Newport and Gloria Kammer of Milford, Ohio; a son, Buddy Humphrey of Silver Grove; a sister, Grace Smith of Alexandria; brothes, Bruce Morgan of Newport and Mike Morgan of Independence; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Wilmore "Bill" McKee O'Neil, of Dry Ridge, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Grant County. He was a retired farmer, involved with the C-3 Camp, Walton, and Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Virginia Souder O'Neil, granddaughter, Dawn Kincaid, and great-granddaughter, Dominique Huebner, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his son, Wilmore M. O'Neil Jr. of Lexington; daughters, Arlene Griffin of Dry Ridge, Darlene Talley of Falmouth and Peggy O'Neil and Rita Lewis, both of Ghent; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lydia Puckett, 92, of Owenton, died Friday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. She was a farmer and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church, Glencoe. A son, Sherman Davis, and a daughter, Virginia Ayres, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby E. Roebuck Schnurr, 77, of Bromley, died Wednesday in Frankford, Del. She was a seamstress with Mack Shirt. Her husband, Fred F. Schnurr, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Francis F. Schnurr of Bromley; daughters, Linda M. Schnurr and Nancy K. Cropper, both of Chance, Md.; sisters, Mildred Thompson of Meridian, Miss., and Pid Bond of Preston, Miss.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Emery Arnold Spaulding, 97, of Butler, died Sunday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. He was a farmer and a member of Gardnersville Christian Church and Pendleton County Senior Citizens. His wife, Floretta Spaulding, died in 1982. A son, Harold Spaulding, died in 1997.
Survivors include sons, Earl Spaulding of Fort Mitchell and Paul Spaulding of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Patrick W. Tierney, 62, of Maysville, died at 11:50 p.m. Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. He was an employee of the Mason County Road Department, a retired assistant chief of the Maysville Fire Department and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Caproni Tierney; daughters, Holly Tierney of Lexington and D'Ann Tierney of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and a brother, Jim Tierney of Maysville.

Gerhard B. "Bud" Wenstrup, 91, of Covington, died at 8:15 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired executive with Precision Truing Co., a member of Catholic Order of Forresters and an Army veteran of World War II. His wives, Ann Wenstrup and Laura E. Wenstrup, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a sister, Mary L. Dutro of Cincinnati.
Memorial services were Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. Mr. Wenstrup bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, handled arrangements.
