Sister Mary Dorita, 84, former school principal
Until a year ago, battling cancer and unable to get around easily, Sister Mary Do rita Murphy, SND, would ride her motorized scooter from the Provincial House to Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, where she worked as a bookkeeper.
Before Sister Mary Dorita took the job in the school office, she was an educator for 46 years - including stints as principal at four elementary schools in Kentucky and Ohio.
She proved to be someone you could count on.
"She was such a consistent and dedicated person, said Sister Mary Shauna, the provincial.
"She for a long time worked here at our Provincial House as assistant treasurer, and she took care of the lay staff and was a very hard worker all her life."
Sister Mary Dorita, 84, died Sunday at St. Joseph Heights in Park Hills.
Sister Mary Dorita was born Dorothy E. Murphy, and reared in Newport.
She was an elementary school teacher with the Diocese of Covington and also with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
She served as principal - and sometimes also as a teacher - at St. Stephen's School in Newport, now known as Holy Spirit School; St. Joseph School in Cold Spring; St. Mary's School in Alexandria and St. Columban School in Loveland, Ohio.
"She was just such a dedicated person who loved to be of service and be a part of the mission, " Sister Mary Shauna recalled of her colleague.
Survivors include nephews, Ron Murphy of Wilder, Tom Murphy, John Murphy and Michael Murphy, all of Fort Thomas; and nieces, Barbara Wofford of California and Mary Ann Kleine of Warren, Mich.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Provincial House convent chapel at St. Joseph Heights in Park Hills.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Provincial House, with a wake service at 5 p.m. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.

Everett Wayne Baker, 56, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a machinist with Wagstaff Eastern Inc., Boone County, a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church in Independence and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Baker; a daughter, Jamie Y. Powell of Independence; a son, Everett Wayne Baker Jr. of Newport; a stepson, Bill J. Traylor of Falmouth; a stepdaughter, Karen K. Lindsey of Fort Mitchell; brothers, John Baker of Newport and Doug Baker of Taylor Mill; a sister, Kathy Hutchinson of Florence; a stepbrother, Paul Howard of Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Community United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Neave Cemetery, Bracken County.
Wayne Douglas Breeden, 64, of Lawrenceville, died at noon Sunday at his home. He was a school bus driver with Grant County Schools, a farmer and a member of Mason Baptist Church and Kentucky Draft Horse Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mary K. Faulkner Breeden; brothers, Virgil Breeden Jr. and Gerald Breeden, both of Dry Ridge; and sisters, Anna Jean Sparks of Cynthiana and Bonnie Fogle of Covington.

Susan Brewer, 45, of Morning View, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.
Edith Buck, 96, of Newport, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired teletype operator with the U.S. Government. Her husband, William Buck, died in 1965.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Dorothy R. Hacker, 80, of Fairview, died 2:42 a.m. Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker and a member of Decoursey Baptist Church, Covington. Her husband, Roy Hacker, died in 1999.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Hacker of St. Louis; daughters, Joyce Lee Ruf of Ryland Heights and Sharon Gail Fry of Taylor Mill; brothers, Lawrence Everman of Ryland Heights and Tommy Everman of Independence; sisters, Ruby McNay of Elsmere, Ruth Furthmiller of Cincinnati and Joan Fawbush of Covington; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Alta Louise Hahn, 81, of Union, died Sunday at her daughter's home in Waxhaw, N.C. She was a homemaker, a member of Altar Society and a CCD teacher at All Saints Church, Walton. Her husband, Daniel Franklin Hahn Sr., died in 1986. A son, Thomas Daniel Hahn Sr., died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Marilyn Hamilton of Owenton, Diana Jackson of Independence and Anne Michels of Waxhaw; sons, Lawrence Joseph Hahn II and Daniel Franklin Hahn Jr., both of Union; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Esther Mae Huls, 92, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church. Her husband, Raymond "Bud" Huls, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Ray J. Huls of Florence; and a sister, Virginia Schneeman of Erlanger.

Ann Juanita Foor Parrish, 66, of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Covington, died Saturday in Summerville. Her husband, Major Robert Gordon Parrish (Ret.), preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Jeffrey R. Parrish of Goose Creek, S.C., and Bobby G. Parrish of Summerville.

John E. "Jack" Peake, 76, of Norwood, Ohio, formerly of Independence, died at 7:55 a.m. Monday at Victory Park Nursing Home in Norwood. He was a retired foreman with Interlake Steel Corp., Newport, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include cousins, Russell L. Staiger Sr. of Orlando, Fla., and James R. Staiger of Cincinnati.

Beulah Mae Baker Prim, 89, of Alexandria, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired cook with Grants Lick Elementary School, Whites Restaurant in Alexandria and Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She also was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Alexandria. Her husband, Arthur Chester Prim, died in 1971. A son, Chester Prim, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Elmer Prim of Alexandria; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Quinn, 62, of Crestview Hills, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a receptionist with Dillards Hair Salon and was a volunteer emergency medical technician with the Southern Hills Life Squad.
Survivors include her husband, James Quinn; a daughter, Shannon Zimmerman of Edgewood; sons, Kevin Quinn of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Quinn and Terry Quinn, both of Edgewood, and Tim Quinn of Hebron; and 12 grandchildren.

Robert Dean Scheffler, 69, of Worthville, died Monday at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind. He was a retired security guard with ATO-Fina, Carrollton, and a former park ranger with General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton. He also was a former Richland County, Ohio, deputy sheriff, a former Ontario, Ohio, police officer and a former employee of Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. in Mansfield, Ohio. He also was a former member of the Naval Reserve.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Irene Elmore Scheffler; a daughter, Roberta Hannan of Mansfield; sons, Fred Scheffler of Corinth, Charles Scheffler of Lawrenceburg and Robert Scheffler of Aurora, Ind.; a sister, Ailene Boyce of Mansfield; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Price Sebastian, 73, of Newport, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with C.J. Coppage Co., Taylor Mill, and a member of Love and Faith Fellowship Church, Newport.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Sebastian; a son, Ray Sebastian of Newport; daughters, Bertha Sebastian of Gallatin County and Mary Haskett of Newport; sisters, Ellie Stamper and Charity Short, both of Newport; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Helen E. Lunsford Shanks, 69, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Shanks; daughters, Judy Hall of Cincinnati and JoeAnn Mahoney of Florida; sons, P.B. Lunsford, Pat Lunsford, Perry Lunsford and Pete Lunsford, all of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Cathy Plummer of Moore's Hill, Ind., and Michele Shanks of Paducah; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Danese Lessing Fausz Smith, 79, of Arizona, formerly of Newport, died March 7 in Sacramento, Calif. She was a homemaker and a former General Electric employee. Her husband, William E. Smith Jr., and a son, Lance Daniel Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Catherine D. Palmer of Sacramento.

Mildred Rachel Wainscott Smith, 81, of New Columbus, died Monday at Georgetown Hospital. She was a homemaker, a member of Mussel Shoals Baptist Church, Owen County, and attended New Columbus Baptist Church. Her husband, Woodrow "Jigger" Smith, died in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Tracie Perkins of New Columbus; a brother, Henry Wainscott of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Lois Watkins of Crestwood, Jessie O'Leary of Cincinnati and Elizabeth Dunavent of Owen County; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
