J. W. BRYANT, 62, DROPS DEAD AT HIS FARM
Joseph Walter Bryant, 62-year-old farmer of five miles east of Kirksville, was found dead yesterday after noon about 3 o'clock after members of his family had launched a frantic search for him.
The body of Mr. Bryant, who had suffered for some time with high blood pressure, heart disease and other ailments, was discovered in a little hollow next to a fence in a tangle of blackberry vines and other growth, by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Briggs of Keokuk, Iowa.
Coroner W. C. Summers was summoned at once and after consulting with the physician in whose care Mr. Bryant had been for some time, determined that an inquest was not needed. There was blood on the mouth and face, but Mr. Bryant's physician said that that condition might easily have been the result of a probable internal hemorrhage.
Mr. Bryant left his home about 7:30 o'clock, yesterday morning. Stock on the place had been escaping through faulty fencing and the day before Mr. Bryant's sons had repaired some of the fence. It was believed that Mr. Bryant had been out to inspect the work when he became ill.
During the morning his daughter, and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs of Keokuk, arrived at the Bryant home to spend the day. When Mr. Bryant did not return to his home for the noon meal a search was started. A car came to Kirksville in search of him, in the belief that Mr. Bryant might have been given a ride into Kirksville by a neighbor.
Soon the search was shifted to the fields. After the discovery of the body, one son said that he had passed within a few feet of the spot, but due to the tangle of underbrush, he did not see the body of his father.
Mr. Bryant was born in Scotland County, Missouri, on December 26, 1879, the son of Riley and Pauline Thurber Bryant.
He was married
to Miss Ethel Converse. Eight children were born to this union, seven surviving their father.
A year ago last February, Mr. and Mrs.Bryant, their children and her father, A. A. Converse, 84, who makes his home with them, moved to the farm east of here coming back to Missouri from Iowa.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, seven children, Mrs. Chloe Briggs, Keokuk; Alfred Bryant, Mount Rose, Ia.; Riley Bryant, Keokuk; and Dale, Francis, Walter and Leslie, of the home; and four brothers, Willam Bryant, Alexandria; Charley Bryant of Memphis; Frank Bryant of Baring; and Vernon Bryant of Kahoka.
Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lawn Ridge Church, about eight miles from Memphis and burial in the Lawn Ridge cemetery. --- Wednesday's Kirksville Express.

Walter Bryant, 61, a resident of Keokuk for 24 years, before he moved to Kirksville, Mo., about a year ago, died there Tuesday morning, Aug. 12, at 8 o'clock, following a heart attack.
Mr. Bryant, a son of the late Riley and Paulina Thurbur Bryant, was born in Scotland county, Mo., on Dec. 26, 1879.
Surviving are his widow, the former Ethel Converse; one daughter, Mrs. Chloe Briggs of Keokuk; six sons, Alfred and Riley Bryant, both of Keokuk, and Dale, Francis, Leslie and Walter Bryant, all at home; several grandchildren and four brothers: Charles Bryant of Memphis, Mo.; Frank Bryant of Baring, Mo.; William Bryant of Alexandria, Mo., and Vernon Bryant of Keokuk.
Funeral services and burial will be at the Lawn Ridge church near Memphis, on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock.

Ward Raymond Bryant

Ward Raymond Bryant, 75, of 344 Chester St., Keokuk, died at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City.
He was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Keokuk, to Leo and Rose Dalton Bryant. He married
Virginia "Maxine" Hackard on Aug. 6, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death.
He served in World War II. He had worked for the Rock Island and Burlington Northern Railroad, and later for Crandon Paper Mills in Fort Madison, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Fort Madison, the Southside Boat Club and the Eagles Club of Keokuk.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Sam (Anna Rose) Hackett of Bartonville, Ill., and Mrs. Steven (Marsha) Hayes of Fort Madison; a son, Roger Bryant and his wife, Karen, of Keokuk; five grandsons and a granddaughter, two great granddaughters; three sisters, Helen Howard and Mary Jump, both of Keokuk, and Freida Rose of Louisville, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ruth Reynolds and Floyd Smeltser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk, with the Bro. Bill Hauser officiating.
Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at DeJong's Funeral Home, and the family will meet with friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.

Of Alexandria, Mo.
Dies Here Today
William Hickman Bryant of Alexandria, Mo., died at 12:15 a. m., today in St. Joseph hospital after an illness of three weeks.
Born December 14, 1873 in Bible Grove, Mo., he was the son of James Luther [James Luther is wrong. James Riley is correct.] and Paulina Thurber Bryant and had been a resident of Alexandria for the last 21 years. He was a farmer.
On December 12, 1804 [sic - 1895] he married
Charity Elizabeth Hatfield in Memphis, Mo. He was a member of the Nazarene church in Keokuk.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, James and Jesse of Alexandria and Wayne of Keokuk; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Shillak and Mrs. Ethel Steele of Keokuk; three brothers, Charles of Memphis, Frank of Greensburg, Mo., and Vernie of Keokuk, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Manda May and Levi Hickman, two brothers and a sister.
The body will remain at DeJong’s Funeral Home where the service will be held Monday at 2:20 p. m. Burial will in the Big Mound cemetery.

Wayne W. Bryant
Wayne William Bryant, 58, of 1222 South Seventh, died 4:55 a.m., Thursday, at Graham Hospital, after an illness of nine days.
He was born Jan. 7, 1915 in Bible Grove, Mo., to William H. and Charity Hatfield Bryant. He married
Ellen Mortimer, March 17, 1936 in Kahoka. He was a resident of Keokuk since 1943 and was employed as a lubrication engineer for the Foote Mineral Co. He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Local 148 of the Operating Engineers.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife; four sons, Larry of Irving, Tex.; Lonnie of Elvaston; Melvin of Keokuk; and Kenneth of Hamilton; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Wanda) Glasgow of Keokuk; Mrs. Jean Carlson of Keokuk; Mrs. William (Janice) Hayden of Alexandria; 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Pauline Shillak of Keokuk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers, a son and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, at DeJong's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Virgil V. Reeve officiating. Burial will in the Buena Vista Cemetery.
