Ruth Ann 'Cookie' Luck, dancer, hospital volunteer

Ruth Ann "Cookie" Luck was a vivacious woman who excelled at dancing and as a h ospital volunteer.

She was a retired registered nurse, spending 20 years with Dr. John Falk in Cincinnati.

She later worked at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati and was a volunteer with St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

She and her husband, Robert H. Luck, helped found the Tanden Square Dancers, a group of about 30 people that has received medals from around the world.

A daughter, Deborah Luck of Covington, said her parents enjoyed dancing and spreading good cheer. They were married for 46 years.

"She was always there to listen, " Miss Luck said.

"And she liked being active in her grandchildren's lives."

Mrs. Luck, 68, of Covington, died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs. Luck also is survived by a son, James L. Luck of Wilmington, Ohio; her mother, Florence Ada Moore of New Vienna, Ohio; a brother, Donald Lee Moore of Longwood, Fla.; a sister, Linda Carson of Leesburg, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky., 41042.

Johnnie Nelson Dean, 84, of Newport, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Covington.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church, Newport, where she helped form the night choir. She was a chaplain of the church Missionary Society, a member of the Greater Cincinnati Interdenominational Prayer Band and was a retired cook with the Newport Independent Schools system. She also worked in the Campbell County Fiscal Court Building.

Survivors include her husband, George Dean; sons, Thomas A. Carter of Newport and Eugene Carter of Kokomo, Ind.; a daughter, Virinda Garland-Doddy of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Colp-Dewmaine Cemetery, Carterville, Ill. Joseph R. Garr Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.

Ryan Drake, 21, of Walton, died Tuesday at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. See Page 1K.

Donald W. Fewell, 73, of Independence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired vice president for the American Institute of Management Services in North Carolina, and brokered for several insurance companies in Cincinnati. He was a member of St. Barbara Church in Independence. A son, Kevin P. Fewell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Fewell; sons, Steven Fewell of Middletown, Ohio, and Mark Fewell of Cincinnati; daughters, Eileen Miller of West Chester and Bridgett Brashear of Fort Thomas; sisters, Joyce Gripshover and Kay Fewell, both of Northern Kentucky; brothers, Dale Fewell of Northern Kentucky, Gary Fewell and Paul Steubbers, both of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Barbara Church, Independence. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Service. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Barbara Church, 4042 Turkeyfoot Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Ruth Britt Fueglein, 82, of Cold Spring, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a retired clerk with St. Luke Hospitals.

There are no immediate survivors.

No services are planned. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Fares J. Funeral Home, Highland Heights, is handling arrangements.

Allene Holbrook, 87, of Burlington, died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday at Woods Point Geriatric Care Center, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Louise C. Lowenstein McMath, 92, of Fort Thomas, died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, Marl (CQ ) McMath, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy McMath of Fort Thomas; a son, Jack McMath of Fort Thomas; sisters, Lydia Fitzgerald of Ojai, Calif., and Helen Leibfarth of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to All God's Creatures Animal Rescue, Unity Center, 1401 McMillan Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45206; or St. John United Church of Christ, Park and Nelson, Newport, Ky. 41071.

Mildred Bradford Meyer, 81, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She worked in the freezer department at Latonia Springs Ice Cream Co. Her husband, Donald C. Meyer, died in 1998.

Survivors include a brother, Fenton Bradford of Florence; and a sister, Roberta Coates of Centerville, Ind.

Services will be at noon Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; or American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

George K. Moore, 64, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at his home. He was a carpenter. A son, William Quince Moore, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Cline Moore; sons, Gale Gene Moore and George Kinney Moore II, both of Lexington, and James Thomas Moore of Cynthiana; a daughter, Elizabeth Darlene Neace of Cynthiana; brothers, Dwayne Allison Moore and Charles Kenneth Moore, both of Harrison County; a sister, Nancy Criswell of Berry; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Michael Murphy, 55, of Park Hills, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired letter carrier with U.S. Postal Service and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright.

Survivors include his wife, Karen L. Murphy; sons, Michael W. Murphy and Bryan A. Murphy, both of Park Hills; daughters, Kelly Kramer of Independence and Stacey Murphy of Park Hills; brothers, Maurice Murphy of Park Hills and Jack Murphy of Elsmere; sisters, Mora Hoober of Park Hills, Ann Ernst of Fort Wright and Judy Bergfeld of Florence; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Agnes Church, 1680 Dixie Highway, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Jerry Alden Perkins, 56, of Cincinnati, formerly of California, died at 8 a.m. Monday at Hillside Nursing Home, Cincinnati. He was disabled.

Survivors include brothers, John Perkins of Latonia and Benjamin Perkins of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Keith Allen Pipes, 36, of Fort Wright, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a former horse trainer with Turfway and River Downs parks.

Survivors include a son, Steven Austin of New Richmond, Ohio; a daughter, Courtney Pipes of New Richmond; his parents, Brenda Freking of Fort Wright and Donald Pipes of Latonia; sisters, Cheryl Pipes and Leslie Roll, both of Latonia, Rae Jean Roberts of Naples, Fla., Charmaine Bradenburg of Crescent Springs; brothers, Dennis Freking of Covington, Timothy Freking of Grove City, Ohio, Greg Pipes of Fort Wright, Kevin Pipes of Miami and Phillip Freking of Crescent Springs; and grandmother, Thelma Haley of Latonia.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Russell Reed, 56, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.

Gloria P. Sholar, 67, of Hopkinsville, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday at Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville. She was a retired employee of churches in Louisville, Clay, Harlan, Hopkinsville and Hazard, and was a preschool and children's ministry consultant with the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

She was a former co-director of the Children's and Youth Church Camps and Retreats at Cedarmore Baptist Assembly, Frankfort Camp Joy in Bowling Green, Oneida Baptist Schools, Camp-O-Cumberlands, Harlan and Jonathan Reek Baptist Assembly, Aurora. She was a member and officer of the Women's Missionary organization, had taught Sunday school and had been a church pianist and children's choir director.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Ronald R. Sholar; sons, Rev. R. Rex Sholar Jr. of Covington, Phillip J. Sholar of Atlanta and Rev. Steven G. Sholar of Edmonton; a daughter, Jill Elizabeth Casada of Franklin, Tenn.; a brother, Leroy Phillips of Mannington; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were this morning at First Baptist Church, Hopkinsville. Burial will be in Flat Lick Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Kentucky Baptist Foundation, Gloria P. Sholar Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 436389, Louisville, Ky. 40253. Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, is handling arrangements.

Blanche E. Sponaugle, 82, of Florence, died at 10:20 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired supervisor with the Keebler Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. John Vianney, Cincinnati, and the Rosie Reds.

Survivors include a sister, Lola Weber of Florence; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Entombment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to St. John Vianney Church, 4448 Berwick, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227.

Robert Charles Suedkamp, 80, of Covington, died Monday at Villa Spring Health Care Center, Erlanger.

He was a retired employee of the Wadsworth Electric Co. and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington. He also was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, June Fisher Suedkamp; a son, Bruce Suedkamp of Erlanger; a daughter, Barbara Kreyling of Park Hills; sisters, Grace Glass of Covington and Marie Adamson of Florence; brothers, Ralph Suedkamp, Joe Suedkamp and Charles Suedkamp, all of Covington; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Thursday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.
