Anthony Nolan was strong, but gentle
Anthony Lynn Nolan won trophies for bodybuilding, but his father will always remember him for the gentle nature that contrasted with his strong physique.
"He was always very helpful to me. He was our only child, " said Jack Nolan of Covington.
"He was just a joy to us."
Anthony Nolan was just 28 when he died at 3:58 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. His father said authorities believe Anthony suffered a blot clot before dying.
Anthony Nolan, of Covington, won several trophies for bodybuilding when he attended Holmes Senior High School, his father said. Anthony also enjoyed the martial arts.
Anthony Nolan took several criminal justice courses in college and wanted to become a police officer but recently became a counselor at the Campbell County Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Newport.
Anthony spent his own money to buy pizza and rent videos for the children who were at the detention center, his father said.
"He really loved that job. He was quiet, but he carried a big stick, " his father said.
Besides his father, Anthony Nolan is also survived by his son, Hunter Miller Nolan of Covington; his mother, Sara E. Nolan of Covington; grandmother, Fannie Smith Miller of Florence; and his fiancee, Sara Mighdoll of Covington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 8 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Hunter Miller Nolan Education Fund, 711 Monte Lane, Covington, Ky. 41011.
Ruth Edna Shewmaker Adams, 71, of Walton, died Thursday at her home.
She was a retired lab supervisor with Hilltop Labs, Erlanger, and a member of the Woodward Alumni Association. A son, Jerome William Adams, died in 1993.
Survivors include her husband, Harold C. Adams; daughters, Patricia L. Lane of Walton and Nancy F. Kloentrup of Morning View; a son, James L. Adams of Walton; a sister, Marie Martin of Cincinnati; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Florence Bresser, 75, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home in Ludlow.
Eric Lamont Beesser Conrad, 28, of Covington, died Monday at his home.
He was a building maintenance worker with the Housing Authority of Covington.
Survivors include a son, Breven Conrad; his mother, Margie Conrad of Covington; brothers, Reginald Stewart, Robinson Conrad, Rodney Conrad, Donald Conrad and Alfred Conrad, all of Covington; sisters, Marilyn Conrad, Frances Conrad, Robin Conrad, Cynthia LeMarbe and Donna Frazier, all of Covington; and his fiancee, Aimee Stowers.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at United Community Church, Covington. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere.

Jacob Troy Donskey, 3, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Troy and Angela Fryman Donskey of Erlanger; sisters, Heather and Amber Donskey both at home; brother, Christian Donskey also at home; maternal grandparents, Terry and Beverly Fryman of Verona, Barbara Fryman of Erlanger; paternal grandparents, Roxanna and Bill St. John of Taylor Mill.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers & Grubbs funeral Home in Walton. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Erlanger.

Helen "Nanny" Louise Elliott, 72, of Boaz, Ala., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Saturday at Riverview Regional Hospital in Boaz.
She was a nursery worker and preschool teacher with First Baptist Church in Boaz. Her husband, Robert Van Elliott Jr., and sons, Terry Collins and Jimmy Collins, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Timothy Collins of Germany; stepsons, Don Elliott of Dry Ridge, David Elliott of Dallas and Van Elliott III of Covington; daughters, Cynthia Hodges of Georgetown and Patricia Rogers of the state of California; stepdaughters, Barbara O. Moore of Cincinnati, Bonnie Quarles of Georgetown and Erma Sarcione of Fort Mitchell; brothers, William Charles Race Jr. of California, Billie Lee Race of Oregon and Tommy Race of Georgetown; sisters, Jean Harrington of North Carolina, Shirley Zerkle of Florida and Faye Caudill of Texas; and 16 grandchildren.
Services were Tuesday at at First Baptist Church of Boaz. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Boaz.

Freda Enda, 87, of Villa Hills, died at midnight Thursday at Madonna Manor in Villa Hills.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence. She was also active at The Point and the Short/Long Term Residential Care Center. Her husband, Bernard Enda, died in 1989. A son, James Enda, died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Bernard J. Enda of Cincinnati, Edward W. Enda of Verona, Joseph D. Enda and Daniel L. Enda, both of Florence; daughters, Mary Ann Pratt of Burlington, Margaret Donoghue of Edgewood and Patricia Reckers of Erlanger; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Church, Florence. A reception will follow at Madonna Manor Recreation Center. Mrs. Enda bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Thomas M. Florence, 39, of Covington, died Wednesday at his home. He was disabled.
Survivors include brothers, Bishop Raymond Florence of Atlanta and Ricky Florence of Cincinnati; and sisters, Doris Johnson and Charlene Adams, both of Covington, and Pamela Williams of Cincinnati.

Eddie Clifton Henson, 94, of Maysville, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday at Maysville Extended Care Center.
He was an assistant street supervisor with the City of Maysville and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Maysville. A son, Donald Lee Henson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ollus Henson; sons, Darrell Henson of Aberdeen, Ohio, and Melvin Henson of Maysville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. today. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
William E. Knuckles II, 57, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was an employee of Black River Mine.
Survivors include a son, Bill Knuckles of Grants and Selenea Mudd of Butler; a sister, Cheri Pettit of Falmouth; and four grandchildren.

Charles Miller, 77, of Sparta, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a truck driver with American Freight Co. and a member of Lighthouse Ministries and Masonic Lodge No. 876, Verona.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. A daughter, Valerie Bickers, died in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Napier Miller; a daughter, Vannah Miller, at home; sons, David Miller and Reggie Miller, both at home, and Gregory Bickers and Carl Wayne Bickers, both of Glencoe; sisters, Ruth Ellis of Columbus, Ind., Willadean Craney and Dorothy Miller, both of Indianapolis; a brother, David Miller of Indianapolis; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.

Arthur Pressler, 48, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He was a self employed painter and an army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Pressler of Newport; daughters, Angela Pressler of Texas, Amanda Herald of Covington, Amy Wagner of Alexandria, Amber and Alissia Pressler both of Kentucky; sons, Randy Smithson of Alexandria, Arthur and Anthony Pressler both o f Kentucky; stepchildren, Cheynee Herrington and Artie Tubb both at home; sisters, Carol Casebolt, Margie Sharp, Mary Cook all of Newport, Virginia Tipton of grandchildren.
