Anna Marie Herzog, 80, knew hundreds of people

Anna Marie Herzog was born and raised in Covington and knew hundreds of people.

A son-in-law, Covington Police Specialist George Russell, said he often took Mrs. Herzog shopping and was amazed by how many people would stop and say hello to her.

"No matter where you went with her, she didn't know any strangers, " said Russell. "And she kept her family together. Everyone was welcome in her house."

Mrs. Herzog, 80, of Covington, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Elmer C. Herzog, died in 1992.

Russell is married to Mrs. Herzog's daughter, Chris Russell of Covington.

Mother and daughter often bowled together and enjoyed spending time together, Mrs. Russell said.

"She was outspoken. She didn't hold anything back, " Mrs. Russell said.

Russell said Mrs. Herzog treated him more like a son than a son-in-law.

"She always told my wife to be nice to me, " said Russell.

Besides her daughter and son-in law, Mrs. Herzog is also survived by her sons, Terry Herzog Sr. of Glencoe and Leonard Herzog of Covington; another daughter, Michelle Wolfe of Covington; sisters, Rita Schrand of Fort Mitchell, Virginia Hale of Ghent and Jane Herzog of Covington; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Church, Covington.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; or St. Augustine Adopt a Student, 1839 Euclid Ave., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Margie Lindon Blanton, 68, of Walton, died Sunday at her home. She was a retired assembler with Johnson Control Co., Florence. Her husband, J. C. "Jake" Blanton, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Rodney H. Blanton of Florence; daughters, Sandra Fryman of Florence and Dena Dixon of Walton; a brother, Reed Bailey of Graham, Wash.; a sister, Opal Richardson of Hazard; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; or Children's Hospital, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Ruth Anna Boden, 91, of Highland Heights, died at 1:40 p.m. Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jacob Earl Boden, died in 1970. Two daughters, Elaine Mann and Aurora Casebolt Wenz, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Jacob Boden of West Palm Beach, Fla., Albert Boden of Fort Thomas and Leroy Boden of Alexandria; daughters, Tillie Dawn of California, Lillie Hines of Highland Heights and Marcella Finn of Cincinnati; 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Asbury Methodist Church, 2916 Alexandria Pike, Highland Heights, Ky. 41076.

Cecil Anthony Cooper, 42, of San Diego, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Feb. 8 at Chula Vista Medical Center in San Diego. He was a law student at UC Berkeley and former truck driver, and a member of Latonia Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Michael Anthony Cooper; and his parents, Helen Quynn Cooper of Georgetown and Cecil B. Janis of Lexington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Johnson's Funeral Home, Georgetown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Stamping Ground.

Thomas E. Fay, 71, of Minerva, died at 2:18 a.m. Sunday at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a farmer and a member of St. James Church in Minerva, Knights of Columbus, the Germantown Fair Board and Kenton Station Golf Course. He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Fay; sons, Thomas E. Fay Jr. and John Patrick Fay, both of Maysville; daughters, Paula Buser and Beverly Fay Kelsch, both of Augusta; brothers, Louis F. Fay of Augusta and John R. Fay of St. Louis; a sister, Mary Taylor of Lexington; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School, 318 Limestone St., Maysville, Ky. 41056; or St. Augustine School, 203 E. Fourth St., Augusta, Ky. 41002. Brell Funeral Home, Maysville, is handling arrangements.

Mary Helen Jones, 61, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and formerly of Covington, died Friday at her home. She was an assembler and packer for the Panic Distribution Center, Columbus, Ohio.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Pack of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Glen Brown of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Brent Brown of Cicero, Ind.; sisters, Cora Knight of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Martha McCoy of Athens, Ohio, Janet Tilly of Morango, Ohio; Pauline Fravel of Junction City, Ohio, Carol Hubbard and Charlene Hubbard, both of Syracuse, N.Y., and Alma Harding and Nadine Evans, both of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Gary Wayne Kurtz, 53, of Williamstown, died at 11 p.m. Friday at his home. He was an employee of Phoenix Transportation in Georgetown and was a member of Southfork Christian Church, Georgetown. He was a little league baseball coach in Grant County, a basketball coach with Mason Corinth Elementary School and an umpire for the Grant County Recreational Department. He was active in 4-H and Scouting.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Lynn Kurtz; sons, James E. Kurtz and Matthew W. Kurtz, both of Williamstown, and Paul J. Kurtz of Granbury, Texas; a daughter, Christina Lynnae Kurtz of Williamstown; his mother, Grace Ann Sanger Kurtz of Staunton, Va.; a brother, Jeffrey L. Kurt of Staunton, Va.; and two grandsons.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Henry Funeral Home, Staunton. Memorials are suggested to the Gary W. Kurtz Trust Fund, in care of Connie L. Kurtz or the children.

Paula Gail Lane, 30, of Dry Ridge, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of White Dove Baptist Church, Williamstown.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Eugene Lane of Dry Ridge; her mother, Pauline Hamlin of Williamstown; brothers, Kenneth Dale Scott of Lee City and Billy Gene Scott of Owenton; and a sister, Angela Tharpe of Corinth.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Stanton.

Harold Roy Lemon Jr., 72, of Highland Heights, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired assembly line worker for the Ford Motor Company in Batavia, Ohio, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lakeside Park. A son, Roy Victor Lemon, preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Roberta Couch of Ludlow and Pamela Hutchinson of Covington; sons, Harold Roy Lemon III and Monty Lee Lemon of Cincinnati, and Tony Lemon of West Covington; a sister, Joyce Abshire of Milford, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are pending. Fares J. Radel Crematory of Cincinnati is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Dorothy Marshall, 86, of Covington, died at 3:07 a.m. Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Glen A. McKee, 80, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a mechanic and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Margrette McKee, died in 1995. A son, Jerry McKee, died in 1986.

Survivors include sons, Bill McKee of Warsaw, Dan McKee of Shawnee, Kan., and Randy McKee of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Willena Gholson of Melbourne, Fla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Paint Lick Cemetery, Warsaw. Memorials are suggested to Paint Lick Church cemetery Fund, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Geral Edward Moose, 84, of Alexandria, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights. Hew as a retired service writer with Thomson-McConnell Cadillac in Cincinnati and a member of Bob White Club in Claryville.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Moose; a son, Jerry Moose of Butler; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria.

Charles R. Northcutt Sr., 75, of Walton, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

He was a retired farmer and a former member of the Walton Fire Department and Goshen Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Northcutt; a daughter, Joellen Renee Northcutt of Walton; a son, Charles Raymond Northcutt Jr. of Walton; and a sister, Betty Lou Williams of Walton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, P. O. Box 55, Walton, Ky. 41094.

Arthur Pressler, 48, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a self employed painter and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Pressler of Newport; a daughter, Amy Wagner of Alexandria; a son, Randy Smithson of Alexandria; stepchildren, Cheyenne Herrington and Arthur Tubbs, both at home; sisters, Carol Casebolt, Margie Sharp and Mary Cook, all of Newport, and Virginia Tipton of Alexandria; and brothers, Robert Pressler, Roy Pressler and Ronald Pressler, all of Newport.

Services were Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.

Margaret Pryor Sandfoss, 79, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired clerical worker with Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Co., and a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include her husband, Ferdinand Sandfoss; daughters, Beverly Whitford of Alexandria and Constance Ann O'Brien of Houston; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Barbara O'Banion Stephenson, 68, of New Bern, N.C., formerly of Villa Hills, died Feb. 6 at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, John Robert Stephenson; a son, John Robert "Robbie" Stephenson II of Goshen; a daughter, Patricia Ann Stephenson of Nicholasville; her mother, Gladys O'Banion of Owenton; a sister, Lenora "Bee" Spicer of Owenton; a brother, Louis O'Banion of Cocoa, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to Craven County Hospice, 2818 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, N.C. 28562; or Owen County Library, Owenton, Ky. 40359.

Elmer John Sterling, 77, of Edgewood, died at 12:13 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired master plumber with J. G. Terwort Plumbing Co., Covington, and a member of Catholic Order of Foresters, Diocese of Covington Cursillo Movement and St. Pius X Church in Edgewood. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne Pieper Sterling; sons, Glenn Sterling of Georgia and Father John Sterling of Crescent Springs; daughters, Mary Kay Sterling and Jan Zembrodt, both of Fort Mitchell, Michele Williams of Crestview Hills, Gemma Davidson of Lakeside Park and Mary Pat Lewis of Villa Hills; a brother, Howard Sterling of West Covington; sisters, Helen Ferris of Collinsville, Ill., and Dolores Shell of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. A reception will follow the Mass in the church undercroft. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011; or Diocesan Cursillo Movement, in care of Mary Krahe, 409 Dayflower Court, Edgewood, Ky. 41017. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Elmer Wayne Wagoner, 48, of Lexington, formerly of Harrison County, died Sunday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He was a former employee of the Square D Co. and a member of Wagoner's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Morrison Wagoner; sons, Kenneth Ray Burden of Harrison County, Tracy Lee Burden and Gregory Lane Burden, both of Lexington; daughters, Lisa Lynn Emmitt of Richmond and Gina Lanee Wellman of Elsmere; brothers, Bill Wagoner of Cynthiana and Gene Wagoner of Harrison County; a sister, Carol Doan of Richmond; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wagoner's Chapel Cemetery, Harrison County. Memorials are suggested to the family.
