'Family was everything' for Viola Mae Humphrey
Viola Mae Humphrey grew up on a dairy farm, then worked 25 years for French Bauer Ice Cream Co.
She also was a good cook and sewed clothes for her four daughters when they were young.
"Her family was everything to her, " said a daughter, Delores Webb of Taylor Mill.
Mrs. Humphrey, 83, of Latonia, died late Sunday afternoon at Rosedale Manor in Latonia.
As a child, Mrs. Humphrey lived on a dairy farm near Hillsboro, Ohio.
She worked for French Bauer in Cincinnati, retiring in 1983 as a computer supervisor.
In addition, "she was a really good cook, " said Mrs. Webb. "She always sewed clothes for us girls, her four daughters, when we were little, and she liked to do pictures in long stitch."
Mrs. Humphrey and her husband, Leonard Humphrey, were married
63 years. He died in March 1999. A daughter, Dorothy Humphreys, died in 1994.
Other survivors include a son, Daniel Humphrey of Sanders; daughters, Barbara Ruttencutter Dean of Crescent Springs and Sarah Lehnhoff of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Sarah Kirkhart of Manassas, Va.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery in Taylor Mill.

Thomas Lawrence Bever, 57, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at his home.
He was a comptroller with C.M. Capital Corp.
Survivors include his parents, Lawrence and Georgine Bever of Marion, Ind.; and brothers, Donald J. Bever of Raleigh, N.C., Dr. John D. Bever of Fort Thomas and Robert C. Bever of Saudia Arabia.

Agnes J. Becker Bilz, 96, of Edgewood, died at 4:19 p.m Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood, and the Golden Age Senior Citizens Club. Her husband, George J. Bilz, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Bilz of Park Hills; daughters, Marilyn A. Franxman of Covington, Joan A. Merten and Susanne J. Sanders, both of Edgewood, Patricia L. Blau and Elaine B. West, both of Lakeside Park, Pamela M. Walsh of Erlanger and Karen Schnelle of Alexandria; a sister, Margaret Rabe of Fort Mitchell; 38 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright.

Jessica Amber Brierley, 16, of Sparta, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
She was a junior at Gallatin County High School and an employee of the Gallatin County Health Care Center.
Survivors include her parents, Ray and Karen Brierley of Sparta; a brother, Jeremy Nathan Brierley of Sparta; and grandparents, Julie Monell of Sparta and Faye Brierley of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Broadridge Cemetery, Grant County.

Helen Moore Elliott, 88, of Sandusky, Ohio, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky.
She was a deputy registrar at the Campbell County Health Department' division of vital statistics. Her husband, William J. Elliott, died in 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Becky Smith of Vermillion, Ohio, and Connie Dickmann of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Foster Funeral Home, Huron, Ohio. Visitation will begin there at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing, Ohio.

She was a teller with First Bank of Dayton. Her husband, Joseph Gerardi, preceded her in death.

Corinne Gerrety, 99, of Ludlow, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a homemaker. Sons, Robert Gerrety and Patrick Gerrety, died in 1994 and 1999, respectively.
Survivors include sons, Rev. James P. Gerrety and Thomas Gerrety, both of Ludlow; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Betty Mae Highfield, 85, of Dayton, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Her husband, Elmer Highfield, died in 1987. A son, James Highfield, died in 1981.
Survivors include son, Charles Highfield of Ludlow; sisters, Jo Stewart of Mount Olivet and Katherine Clark of Maysville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a retired steel worker with Newport Steel and a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church, Gallatin County. His wife, Eunice Marie Shields Ritch, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, William Bass of Union.

Susannah K. Roetting, 35, of Alexandria, died Sunday at her home.
She was a seasonal employee of the Internal Revenue Service, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Roetting; a son, Charles Roetting of Alexandria; her parents, Frank G. Poe Sr. and Elizabeth Poe of Highland Heights; a brother, Frank G. Poe Jr. of Butler; and grandmother, Phronia Moore of Silver Grove.
