Robert Anderson, minister

Part of Robert L. Anderson's ministry involved visiting people who were hospitalized.

"When he visited people in the hospital room, he would say uplifting things and give them hope for the future and for their healing, " said Mr. Anderson's son, Robert Fletcher Anderson of Cynthiana.

"He didn't know all things, but he answered most of my questions and those of my brothers and sisters. He was a humanitarian and was busy in many community groups."

Mr. Anderson, 85, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

He was a retired minister and a Sunday school teacher with First United Methodist Church in Cynthiana. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Methodist Hospital of Kentucky and Union College and a past president of the Harrison County Board of Education.

Mr. Anderson was a Harrison County native who believed in taking care of his family and friends.

"He was a good provider and never turned his back on anybody, " Robert F. Anderson said.

"He was soft-spoken, but he stood his ground. He was someone you would have liked to have had as a next-door neighbor. He loved people."

Besides his son, Mr. Anderson is also survived by his wife, Edith Florence Anderson; another son William Arthur Anderson III of Winchester; daughters, LuNeita Johnson and Dean Brothers, both of Lexington, and Lee Withers Bowling of London; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home, Cynthiana, and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church Mountain Mission, 300 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031; or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Elsie Coomer Bowman, 90, of Lenox, Mass., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Lenox. She was a seamstress with Innmont Cor, and a member of First Baptist Church of Cold Spring. Her first husband, William Coomer, died in 1953. Her second husband, Henry Bowman, died in 1975.

Survivors include a son, William Coomer of Pittsfield, Mass.; a stepson, Jerry Bowman of Alexandria; a brother, Zollie Kilburn of Independence; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 4410 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Robert E. Gibson, 43, of Latonia, died at 12:57 p.m. Saturday at Carroll County Hospital, Carrollton. He was a painter with Courtney Associates of Covington.

Survivors include his mother, Corine Crouch Gibson of Latonia; brothers, Roy I. Gobson of Taylor Mill and Marc Gibson of Latonia; sisters, Annette Hall and Karen Roe, both of Latonia, and Grace Fields of Newport; and a grandmother, Grace Crouch of Cincinnati.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Paul A. Herrington, 81, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer, a member and elder of Republican Christian Church.

Survivors include sons, Fred Herrington and Ron Herrington, both of Harrison County; a daughter, Linda Fitzgerald of Harrison County; a brother, O. C. Herrington of Owensboro; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Republican Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Republican Christian Church cemetery Fund, Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Paul Ray Hurst Sr., 51, of Covington, died Thursday in Maryland while driving his truck.

He was a truck driver for King Trucking, Hebron.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Hurst of Newport and Paul R. Hurst Jr. of Covington; daughters, Melissa Burg of Fort Mitchell and Cheryl Hurst and Jessica Hurst, both of Corinth; father, Dewey Hurst Sr. of Lexington; stepmother, Loretta Hurst of Lexington; brothers, David Hurst and James Hurst, both of Crittenden; sisters, Sue Cole of Covington and Shirley Lewis of Hazard.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 2 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

George Edward King Jr., 79, of Wilmore, formerly of Falmouth, died Sunday at Thomas Hood Veteran Center in Wilmore. He was a retired mechanic and carpenter, a member of Mount Moriah Christian Church in Pendleton County, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two nieces and a nephew.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Ida Belle Kruetzjans, 87, of Alexandria, died Monday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a waitress with Avenue Restaurant and a member of First Christian Church of Dayton.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Maggard of Alexandria; a sister, Laura Millard of Fort Thomas; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Mae Christine Penn Lilly, 28, of Dry Ridge, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, George A. Lilly; a son, Timothy Ryan Webster Penn of Dry Ridge; her mother, Lora Thomas Penn of Dry Ridge; brothers, Robert Penn of Covington, Thomas M. Penn of Crittenden and Marvin Penn of Williamstown; and sisters, Carol Mullins of Troy, Mich., Linda Mounce of Dry Ridge, Sue Manning and Evelyn Whittle, both of Dry Ridge.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Grant County. Memorials are suggested to Timothy Webster Penn Trust Fund, in care of the funeral home, P. O. Box 130, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Enid Alene Pallan, 69, of Ludlow, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired seamstress with Saturday Night Limited, Cincinnati, and a deacon with Ludlow Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Steffon Pallan of Crestview Hills; and a daughter, Kathleen Elaine Pallan-Barlow of Powell, Ohio.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ludlow Christian Church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Additional services will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday in Liberty. Burial will be in Sims cemetery in Liberty. Memorials are suggested to Ludlow Christian Church, 51 Elm St., Ludlow, Ky. 41016. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Jeanette Sallee, 65, of Hamilton, Ohio, formerly of Gallatin County, died Monday at Berkley Square Health Care Center in Hamilton. She was a teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Sallee; her mother, Clara Frances Rider of Warsaw; and a sister, Audrey Montgomery of Cleveland.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Colonial Foundation Employees Fund, 855 Stahlheber Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45013.

Donald E. Sheets Sr., 67, of Erlanger, died at 9:54 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired masonry contractor and builder, and a member of Heritage Assembly of God, Florence. A son, David Sheets, died on Dec. 31.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Rothwell Wright Sheets; sons, Pastor Donald E. Sheets Jr. of Oregon and Daryl Virgil Sheets of Verona; daughters, Kathy Sheets of Arizona, Shirley Sheets of California and Donna Sheets of Erlanger; stepsons, Ralph Wright and Tom Wright, both of Florence, and Ray Wright of Walton; a sister, Rosella Russell of Piqua, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Church, New Castle, Ind. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in New Castle Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Heritage Assembly of God Church, 7216 Highway 42, Florence, Ky. 41042. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Anna Elizabeth Simpson, 78, of Covington, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday at Tishomingo Manor in Iuka, Miss. She was a homemaker and a member of Covington First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include a son, Carl W. Simpson of Union; daughters, Mary Minix of Iuka and Judy Sims of Milford, Ohio; a brother, Oscar McDowell of Latonia; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Covington First Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Ruby Spicer, 82, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Arthur J. Spicer, died in 1997.

Survivors include daughters, Jean Carrol of Liberal, Kan., and Joy Erpenbeck of Fort Thomas; sons, Robert A. Spicer of Clyde, Ohio, Arthur J. Spicer Jr. of Los Gatos, Calif., and James Spicer of Fairbanks, Calif.; sisters, Fran Moerlein of Aurora, Ind., and Betty Downey of Franklin; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Minhlan Thi Vuong, 66, of Independence, died Sunday at her home. She was a teacher. Her husband, Tho Nguyen; daughters, Bela Nguyen and Sophie Nguyen; and a son, Bruce Nguyen, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Thomas Nguyen of Washington, D.C., Tony Nguyen of Independence and Scott Nguyen of Edgewood; a daughter, Jerlina Nguyen of Washington, D.C.; several brothers and sisters living in Vietnam; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Helen Wagner, 82, of Taylor, Mich., formerly of Latonia, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Her husband, Joseph C. Wagner, and a son, Richard Morgan, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Joseph C. Wagner Jr. of Cincinnati, Roger M. Wagner of Taylor Mill and Stephen A. Wagner of Florence; daughters, Mary A. Noble of Rockwood, Mich., Holly R. Hern of Taylor, Margaret A. Riley of Fort Wright and Maureen F. Robinson of California; a brother, Robert Kloentrup of Fort Wright; 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
