Paul Harris, Post delivery man When it came to working with his hands, Paul E. Harris was a genius.
He could repair houses and roofs. He was a cook in the Army who knew how to prepare meals for big crowds. And he even found ways to wrap newspapers in plastic by opening the bags with air from a vacuum cleaner.
"My dad taught us what a work ethic is, " said a son, Jerry Harris of Alexandria.
"And my father was always supportive of us. He liked to joke and he loved to fish, but the main thing is that he was always there for us."

Mr. Harris was born in Missouri but spent most of his life in Northern Kentucky. After World War II he helped several brothers who had a small restaurant in Cincinnati.
He later began delivering newspapers in Bellevue and Dayton.
"I threw many papers with him. He had the route as long as I can remember, " Jerry Harris said.
He said his father enjoyed his work and was a good family man who attended church regularly.
"He wasn't into sports, he was into church, " Jerry Harris said. "He was a good, firm fat her figure. But when it came to being gentle, that was him."
