George Jacob, restaurant owner

George Henry Jacob always had the coffee on early for the folks who came by the Stop and Tell Restaurant in Falmouth.

"He opened the restaurant early - took care of the coffee drinkers before other restaurants were open, " recalls his wife, Imogene Haley Jacob.

There was a regular early-morning crowd, she said. Some were farmers. Some worked in town. But they were all "just like family."

Mr. Jacob was "pretty serious, " Mrs. Jacob said, but he was well-liked.

"If he was your friend, he was your friend, if you know what I mean, " she said.

Mr. Jacob, 78, of Falmouth, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a farmer and a former driver with Hudepohl Brewing Co., Cincinnati. He and his wife owned the Stop and Tell from 1968 to 1990. The couple also owned Fisher's Motel, next door. A Rite Aid drug store now stands at the site.

Mr. Jacob was a quiet, dependable man who worked long hours, his wife said.

When he wasn't working he enjoyed gardening, was a former officer and member of the Pendleton County Jaycees and was very devoted to his grandchildren.

"They loved him, and he loved them, " Mrs. Jacob said.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Sandra Elrod of Louisville; a sister, Hazel Jacob of Falmouth; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Leona Miller Acosta, 54, of Corinth, died at 11:40 a.m. Saturday at her home.

She was a quality control worker with Sun Manufacturing Co., Williamstown. A daughter, Brenda Lee Gerretson, died Jan. 4.

Survivors include her husband, Harry P. Acosta; a son, Larry W. "Bud" Clark Jr. of Corinth; daughters, Evelyn Sue Clark of Williamstown, Tammy Gail Ashcraft of Corinth and Melissa Ann Flora of Lexington; brothers, Dexter Miller of Bethel, Ohio, Gary Miller of Cincinnati and Alvin Swafford of Amelia, Ohio; sisters, Evelyn Legner of Bethel and Donna Miller of Cincinnati; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be IOOF Cemetery, Corinth.

William Bartimus Breland, 75, of New Albany, Miss., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Thursday at his home. He was owner of a tavern in Vincent, Ala., and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Breland; a sister, Norma Martin Wilson of California; and a half-sister, Virginia Lucas of Newport.

Services were this morning at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial was in Mount Gilead Cemetery, California.

Ira T. Ford, 94, of Williamstown, died Friday at Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown.

She was a retired nurse's aide with Dry Ridge Personal Care Home, Dry Ridge, and a member of Williamstown Church of God. Her husband, Willie Ford, died in 1985. A daughter, Dorothy Ford, died in 1926.

Survivors include sons, Claude Ford of Williamstown and M. Blaine Ford of Wilder; daughters, Mary Etta Lewis and June Weathford, both of Edgewood, Corine Hammond of Williamstown and Norma Good of Lake Wales, Fla.; 25 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Mariah Brockman Hutchinson, 76, of Verona, died at 3:24 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker and a member of South Fork Christian Church, Verona. She was a member of Roebud Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 39. Her husband, Richard Hutchinson, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons, Richard Hutchinson Jr. of Berry, James Hutchinson, Ralph Hutchinson, Roy Hutchinson and Carl Hutchinson, all of Verona, and Hillman Hutchinson of Crittenden; daughters, June Lilly of Walton, Margaret Hutchinson of Taylor Mill and Patricia S. Pedersen of Verona; a brother, Thera Brockman Jr. of Covington; sisters, Valiere Race and Nada Webster, both of Covington; 40 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Leland "Lee" F. James, 65, of Bellevue, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a press room foreman with the Cincinnati Enquirer, a member of Pressman's Union Local No. 20 in Cincinnati. He was an honorary member of Bellevue Vets, where he was a former coach.

Survivors include his wife, Jill Freppon James; sons, Chris James of Cincinnati, Greg James of Highland Heights and Jeff James of Bellevue; sisters, Lillian Blankemeyer of Elsmere, Freda Burns of Fairfield, Ohio, Brenda Canode of Nebo, Rosetta Hohne of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charlotte Puska of Trenton, Ohio; brothers, Denzil James of Madisonville, Freeman James of Fairfield, Ohio, and Kenzil James of Hamilton, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Hazel D. Henderson Johnson, 55, of Aberdeen, Ohio, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday in Maysville.

She was homemaker and a member of Aberdeen Community Bible Church. Her first husband, Roy Henderson Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, William Johnson; daughters, Delores Applegate of Fort Rucker, Ala., Terri Redden Darnell and Kay Fields, both of Maysville, Gloria Redden Hamel of Webster, N.Y., and Felicia D. Wilson of Aberdeen; a son, Roy W. Henderson of Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters, Linda "Cricket" Nichols and Fredricka Sue Wilson, both of Aberdeen; a brother, Robert "Jimbo" Wilson of Aberdeen; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Charter Oak Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Tammy Koching, 28, of Independence, died at 4:07 p.m. Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a member of Petersburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Chelsey Richardson; a son, Christian Richardson, at home; her mother, Sandy Koching of Independence; and a brother, Randy Koching of Hebron.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf- Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

William McCord, 72, of Mount Olivet, died Saturday at his home.

He was a retired truck driver, a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 291, and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Betty Garrison McCord, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, William H. McCord of Chandler, Ariz., and Michael McCord of Irvington; daughters, Janice King of Milton, Fla., and Jane Richmond of Brandenburg; sisters, Katherine Marsh of Robertson County and Jean M. King of Pace, Fla.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Mount Tabor.

Irene Orme "Grannie" Mitchell, 89, of Robertson County, died Friday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.

She was the owner of Mitchell's Restaurant in Mount Olivet, a farmer and a member of Two Lick Baptist Church. She attended Kentontown Christian Church. Her husband, Ross Overly Mitchell Sr.; her son, Ross Overly Mitchell Jr.; and a daughter, Martha Dean Mitchell Wheeler, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary McDowell of Winchester, Ohio; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grand- children and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Robertson County Funeral Home. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Elizabeth J. "Betty" Nilles, 75, of Erlanger, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at her home.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. She was a member of the church choir and taught CCD classes at St. Henry Church, Elsmere.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Nilles; a son, Joseph C. Nilles of Crittenden; daughters, Susan M. Beck of Warsaw, Elizabeth A. Schultze of Santa Fe, N.M., and Theresa E. Nilles of Elsmere; sisters, Laurretta Gettelfinger of Villa Hills, Juanita Gettelfinger of Ludlow, Patricia Klosterman of Covington and Charlotte Whittle of Dallas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Josefa Pinelo, 85, of Cincinnati, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Twin Towers Nursing Home, Cincinnati.

She was a sales representative with Marshall Field's and a member of the Brighton Center Guild and Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas.

She also was a volunteer missionary with the United Methodist Church in Mexico and Costa Rica. Her husband, Adalberto Pinelo, died in 1985.

Survivors include sons, Adalberto Pinelo of Wilder and Armando Pinelo of Springfield, Ill.; sisters, Mercedes Aranguren of Las Vegas, Carmen Ponsico and Felipa Ponsico, both of Fallbrook, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Rita Waechter Stephany, 78, of Fort Thomas, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was an underwriter of Employees Liability Insurance Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Leo J. Stephany, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Ed Waechter of Charlotte, N.C.; and nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be 5 from 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Louise M. Stone, 96, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Manor Care Nursing Home, Cincinnati.

She was a retired shoemaker. Her husband, Charles Stone, died in 1963.

Survivors include nieces, Shirley Lakeberg and Ruth Koch, both of Cincinnati.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Geraldine Benjey Surginer, 67, of Verona, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Berit F. Tychesen, 68, of Fort Mitchell, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired Montessori teacher.

Survivors include her husband, Willy Tychesen; daughters, Nina Tychesen and Monica Tychesen; a son, Hans Tychesen; a sister, Karna Wildt; and five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Lakeside Park. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014 or Wellness Community, 1717 Dixie Highway, Suite 145, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Thelma Lee Vest, 95, of Crittenden, died Friday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw.

She was a former teacher with Grant County schools, former postmaster at the U.S. Post Office in Elliston and an accounts receivable clerk with Kentucky Motors, Covington. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Dry Ridge. Her husband, John W. Vest, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a niece, Ruth Ann Ingram of Florence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Anna Re Hicks Wainscott, 80, of Williamstown, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday at her home.

She was a homemaker and farmer, and a member of Gum Lick Baptist Church in Pendleton County. Her husband, Stanley Wainscott, died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Wilma Jean Killion of Cincinnati; sons, Dorman Wainscott, Le Roy Wainscott and Donald Wainscott, all of Williamstown; a brother, Kenneth Brewer of Walton; sisters, Adelene McClanahan and Leetta Coffman, both of Williamstown, and Mae Crowe of Walton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gum Lick Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Elliston- Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Loureena Rita Anna Karrick Blum Weber, 93, of Newport, died Friday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include herhusband, Allen Weber; daughters, Loraine Over and Florence Suchanek, both of Newport; a sister, Jeanetta Martini of Newport; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Mary C. Wisher, 88, of Fort Wright, died at 12:03 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

She was a secretary to Robert and Alvin Gould and JTS Brown whiskey distillers and brokers.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at the center. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati.
