Ann Mitchell, good friend and real estate leader

Ann Mitchell touched lives like few can.

As a Realtor, she was honest and kind. Customers kept in touch with her years after they bought a home from her. And they called her again when they were ready to sell.

As a friend, she was caring and generous.

"She did so many good things for so many people, " said a daughter, Kelly Johnson Woodrum of Villa Hills. "Everyday things and big things, too. One of our friends found themselves without a place to stay once. She took them in. Her home was always open to friends. She made sure it was a happy home. People just fell in love with her."

Ms. Mitchell, 59, of Fort Mitchell, died of cancer at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She fought the disease for eight years.

She was president and an owner of C.B. Deters Realty in Fort Mitchell, and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. She was a former president and member of the board of directors of the Northern Kentucky Association of Realtors, and a member of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

After her husband, Charles Scott Johnson, died in 1964, she worked hard to raise her two daughters alone. She got into real estate on a whim. Some friends planned to take the state exam and work as Realtors. She went along for fun, and became the only one in the group to make it her life's work.

Ms. Mitchell gradually worked her way to larger companies before opening C.B. Deters Realty in Florence in 1996. It later moved to Fort Mitchell.

Ms. Mitchell also saved time for things that were important to her. Her company sponsored the Deters Devils Knothole baseball team.

She was active on the advisory committee of the Licking Valley Girl Scouts Council with St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs.

Most important, she made time for her family, her daughter said.

Sundays at her house always included lots of family and friends and lots of food.

"She was a wonderful mother, father and best friend for all of us, " said Mrs. Woodrum.

Other survivors include another daughter, Christy Johnson Peeler of Union; a sister, Bonnie Mattingly of Maysville; and a granddaughter.
