Mary Alice Tarvin, former city clerk
Mary Alice Tarvin served as city clerk of Highland Heights for 26 years, seeing t he city grow from a small town to one that became home to a state university and numerous thriving businesses.
"She saw the town through a heck of a lot of changes, " said her daughter, Sally Vater of Cold Spring. "She incorporated advanced technologies into running the city.
"She was able to manage that transition."
Mrs. Tarvin, 76, of Wilder, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She served as Highland Heights city clerk from 1960 to 1986.
Mrs. Tarvin was a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring, where she was active in the choir.
She loved to read and volunteered at St. Joseph School, teaching young students to read.
"She always did have a thirst for knowledge, " Mrs. Vater said. "She was interested in faraway places and different cultures. Reading was her ticket to be able to go to places that she thought she could never go."
But after she retired, Mrs. Tarvin and her husband, Dennis Tarvin, traveled to Europe several times.
"That was the biggest thrill for her, " Mrs. Vater said. "They had a great time."
Mr. Tarvin preceded Mrs. Tarvin in death.
Mrs. Tarvin also enjoyed needlepoint and quilting. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge.
"We were very proud of her, " Mrs. Vater said. "She was a wonderful mother, and she really enjoyed her grandkids."
Other survivors include sons, Jack Tarvin of Melbourne and Jeffrey Tarvin of Brookfield, Conn.; daughters, Nancy Turley of Temecula, Calif., and Kathleen Wagner of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Florence Robbins of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Anthony W. Barrett, 28, of Dayton, died Wednesday at his home.
He was a maintenance worker at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Barrett of Loveland, Ohio; mother, Karen Williams of Dayton; and a brother, Randy Barrett of Dayton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Oscar H. Doyle, 86, of Wallingford died Thursday at Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg.
He was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Formans Chapel United Methodist Church. His wife, Evelyn Price Doyle, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Ford Doyle DeAtley of Fleming County; and a grandson.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery.

Virginia Lee Geiman, 55, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a member of the Campbell County High School Band Boosters and a helper in the Bishop Brossart High School cafeteria. A daughter, Judith Geiman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Geiman of Alexandria; daughters, Karen Orth of Alexandria, Rita Flairty of Alexandria, Theresa Bezold of California and LeAnn Blackaby of Demossville; sons, Danny Geiman of Falmouth and Tony Geiman, Steve Geiman, Larry Geiman, Mark Geiman, Justin Geiman and Phil Geiman, all of Grants Lick; sisters, Mary Berkemeier of Alexandria, Pat Young of Fort Mitchell and Regina Smith of Corinth; brothers, Joseph Schulkers of Cincinnati, H. Leo Schulkers of Newport and Virgil Schulkers of Silver Grove; and 23 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Prayers will be at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria.

Alene Darnold Kindoll, 80, of Carrollton, died Friday.
She was a member of Cove Hill Baptist Church, Carroll County. Her husband, Forest Kindoll, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Joe Kindoll of Sanders and Bob Kindoll of Carrollton; a brother, Roy Darnold of Madison, Ind; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Violet Lillian Ralen, 87, of Kenton County died Thursday at Lakeside Place, Highland Heights. Her husband, Lewis B. Ralen, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a niece, Florence Workman of Kenton County and a nephew, Gerald Steinhauer of Burlington, both of whom she raised.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
Agnes M. Walker, 89, of Warsaw, died Friday at her residence.
Survivors include a half-sister, Flossie Shackelford of Nicholasville; and a half-brother, David Miller of Nicholasville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Napoleon Cemetery, Glencoe.

Estel C. Wilder Jr., 56, of Ludlow died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a carpenter and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wilder of Ludlow; his mother, Ruth Beil of Villa Hills; daughters, Brenda Sue Soto of Stewart, Fla., and Tammy Lynn Wagers of Erlanger; sons, Eddie C. Wilder of Fort White, Fla., Roger D. Powers of Montgomery, Ala., and Paul D. Powers of Burlington; sisters, Ruby Martin of Erlanger, Beverly Monture of Shana, Wis., Barbara Rodriguez of Fort Worth, Texas, Pat Cook of Bellevue and Cindy Wilder of Villa Hills; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Susie Wilson, 73, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Her husband, Edley Wilson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Christine Brandenburg of Foster, Betty Jo Davis of Florence, Rita Mashinot of Melbourne, and Lois Hall, Wanda Napier and Wilma Napier, all of Hazard; sons, Martin Ray Pitts of Clarksville, Tenn., Randall Prather of Louisville, and Paul Ray Wilson and Roger Wilson, both of Newport; sisters, Pauline Powell of Union, Ga., Irene Turner of Ludlow and Callie Bishop of Covington; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at A.C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery, Alexandria.
