Lonnie Gipson, mentored young men at his church
Lonnie Gipson touched many lives while serving as a mentor for young men at Ninth Street Baptist Church in Covington.
"Lonnie was a very active, interested, involved man who was hungry to be an example to young folk, " said Rev. Richard Fowler, pastor of Ninth Street Baptist Church.
"He was wanting to get them headed in the right direction for life. We need more men like Lonnie."
Mr. Gipson, 37, of Bond Hill in Cincinnati, died Wednesday in a tractor-trailer truck accident in Colerain Township, north of Cincinnati. He was a truck driver for FedEx.
Mr. Gipson enjoyed bowling, playing cards and being with his friends.
He was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church for three years, but it seemed like he was there forever, Rev. Fowler said.
"His energy just abounded in anything we did in church, " Rev. Fowler said. "He was never one to say no. He would bend over backward to accomplish a task. He didn't know his own limitations."
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Tipton, of Memphis, Tenn; daughters, Sara, Angelique and Latronda, all of Memphis, and Chastity of Jonesboro, Ark; a son, Derrick of Memphis; sisters, Wanda Gipson and Kathryn Gipson, both of Memphis; a brother, Larry Gipson of Memphis; a grandmother, Elurdia Tipton of Memphis; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at noon today at Ninth Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon today at the church.
There also will be services Monday at Ford Funeral Home, Memphis.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Memphis. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson, Hall & Jordan Funeral Homes, Cincinnati; Jones & Simpson Funeral Home, Covington; and Ford Funeral Home, Memphis.
Wingate "Winnie" Thornton Henderson, 81, of California, died at 4:10 p.m. Thursday at the Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a farmer and homemaker. Her husband, Milton Henderson, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church, Carthage.
Survivors include a son, George Henderson of California; a daughter, Janet Castle of Ashland; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carthage United Methodist Church, Carthage. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery, California.
Ruth Lister, 73, of Ludlow, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a homemaker. A son, Michael J. Rowland, died in 1975.
Survivors include her husband, Allen Lister; brothers, Edgar Rowland of Alexandria, Claude Rowland of Ross, Ohio, Gilbert Rowland of Waynesburg, Frank Rowland of Newport, John Rowland of Latonia, and Sam Rowland and Clyde Rowland, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Mayme Jones of Erlanger, Joni Wardia of Covington, Eileen Jones of Kings Mountain, Kathleen Davis of Sanford, Colleen Abell of Walton, Arleen Bess of Bellevue, Sue Arp of Ludlow, and Doris Warman and Wanda Rowland, both of San Angelo, Texas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Charles Durward Milner, 69, of Walton, died Friday at the home home of his daughter, Shirley Brewer, in Walton. He was a farmer and heavy equipment operator with Coppage Construction, Independence, and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Berry Christian Church, Berry.
Survivors include sons, Charles R. Milner of Walton, Herbert Milner of Morningview and Mike Milner of Florence; daughters, Debbie Tomlin of Independence, Paula Howe of Mount Orab, Ohio, and Shirley Brewer, Kathy McIntyre and Bonnie Martin, all of Walton; sisters, Wanda Perrin of Berry and Gloria Vaughn of Naples, Fla.; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Wally Proctor, 76, of Florence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a WLW "Midwestern Hayride" and "Lucy Pennies" musician, a contractor in home construction, an electrician with Formica Corp., Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Northern Kentucky Church of Christ, Florence, and the Independent Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Proctor; a son, Daniel Lee Proctor of Independence; a daughter, Gloria J. Young of Rochester; brothers, Charles Proctor of Cincinnati and Robert Proctor of West Chester, Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marian Thomas Frey Roberts, 66, of Maysville, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday at her home. She was an elementary school tutor/teacher, and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville, and Mason County RSVP.
Survivors include a son, Tom Roberts of Loveland, Ohio; daughters, Peggy Roberts and Mary Anna Best, both of Maysville; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, with prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Helen B. Schneider, 90, formerly of Fort Mitchell, died at 4:12 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Terry Lee Taylor, 47, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a self-employed blacksmith.
Survivors include a daughter, LeAnna Tufts of Greensburg, Ind.; his father, Charles C. Matysek of Rapid City, S.D.; his mother, June R. Taylor of Covington; sisters, Lisa Diane Stork of Kennesaw, Ga., and Sandy J. Cram of Charlestown, W.Va.; a brother, J.J. Taylor of Florence; and two grandchildren.

Yeulta Vanlandingham, 80, of Falmouth, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

Rosemary Wiebe, 86, of Villa Hills, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday at Madonna Manor in Villa Hills. She was a homemaker, member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia, and Mother of God Church, Covington, volunteered at Holy Cross Schools, and taught ceramics at home, in the Fifth Street Senior Center in Covington and at Madonna Manor. Her husband, Robert P. Wiebe, died in 1998.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Hausfeld of Edgewood, Barbara Wellbrock of Sharonville, Ohio, Peggy Prang of York, S.C., and Denise Akins of Erlanger; sons, Robert Wiebe of Villa Hills and Greg Wiebe of Taylor Mill; a sister, Frances Price of Independence; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Bennett Lee Young, 48, of Independence, died Friday at his home. He was a bus dispatcher for Campbell County Schools. He was a member of Northern Kentucky Baptist Church, Edgewood, and Disabled American Veterans. He also coached youth baseball teams. A brother, Joey Young, died in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Jones Young at home; his mother, Ida Mae Young of Independence; a daughter, Ginger Ann Sonntag of Cheviot, Ohio; sons, Bennett R. Young of Independence and Jason A. Young of Florence; sister, Connie Burton of Barbourville; and two grandsons.
