Edward Rust, truck driver, angler
Edward Lloyd Rust was a relatively quiet man, but he could tell a good fish story.
"He was kind of quiet, " said his son, Glen, of White Oak, Ohio. "And he didn't drink or smoke, he just fished."
Mr. Rust often traveled to Lake Erie for bass fishing, to Michigan for salmon fishing and to Canada for muskie fishing.
When he was younger, he also did a lot of camping.
Mr. Rust, 77, of Independence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a truck driver for 29 years with Wilson Freight Forwarding and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100 in Cincinnati.
He was active at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Independence, where he was a decon for several years.
He was also a member of the Fiskburg Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Rust was a World War II veteran. Three of his brothers also served in World War II, and one served in the Korean War.
Mr. Rust was a radio operator in the Army Air Corps, stationed on Enewetok in the Marshall Islands.
His job was to get planes headed in the right direction if they drifted off course.
"He was always sociable, " said his brother, Roy Rust, of Independence.
He was quick with one-liners, said Glen Rust.
He was also a good father.
"I just remember him always being there when I needed him for anything, " Glen Rust said.
Other survivors include his wife, Lois Spanton Rust; a stepson, Richard Hopkins of Covington; brothers, Charles W. Rust of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Marian Rust of Latonia; sisters, Anna Mary Sullivan of Covington and Lilly Reeves of Covington; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Margaret Raaker Yeager Disken, 98, of Newport, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday at her home.
Her first husband, Raymond A. Yeager, died in 1957.
Her second husband, Harold J. Disken, died in 1976.
Survivors include daughters, Margaret M. Geiser and Rose A. Hogle, both of Newport, and Jean Conners of Appleton, Wis.; a brother, William Raaker of Newport; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Prayers will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Tina Marie Mann, 39, of Dry Ridge, died at 11:13 a.m. Tuesday at University Medical Center, Lexington, of complications from surgery.
She was a dental assistant with Dr. Thad Thomas in Dry Ridge, and a member of Williamstown Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Crystal Marie Penn of Dry Ridge; a son, Johnny Ray Penn of Williamstown; her mother, Lois Schadler Mann of Williamstown; a brother, Richard Wayne Mann of Williamstown; sisters, Linda Huffman of Covington, Grace Ann Mullins of Williamstown and Kim Code of Dry Ridge; two grandchildren and her fiance, Thad Thomas.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Charles Meyers, 78, of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.

Lizzie Ann Gullett Napier, 85, of Newport, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.
She was a retired cook with Country Kitchen in Newport.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Donelson of Largo, Fla., Emma Lee Pearce of Covington and Barbara Wright of Silver Grove; brothers, Leo Lykins of Hazard and Wesley Lykins of Austin, N.D.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
