Dorothy Gallenstein of Maysville, active on family farm, at school
Dorothy "Dot" Gallenstein was a member of a prominent Mason County family that has relatives throughout Northern Kentucky.
But it was in Mason County, where relatives have been county judge-executives and business and civic leaders, where Mrs. Gallenstein was most well-known.
Her husband, Robert L. Gallenstein, a tobacco and cattle farmer, died in June.
The couple had been married
for 54 years, said a daughter, Linda Bowery of Maysville.
"She was pretty outspoken. She loved to have company over, " Mrs. Bowery said of her mother.
"She was active in St. Patrick School and the Girl Scouts. She worked the family farm and raised a garden. She was wonderful."
Mrs. Gallenstein, 78, of Maysville, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker, member of Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and a member of St. Patrick Church in Maysville.
Mrs. Gallenstein enjoyed watching the University of Kentucky men's basketball team and being with her grandchildren, her daughter said.
"She never missed a game, " Mrs. Bowery said.
Other survivors include daughters, J.C. Rash of Atlanta and Janet Fritz of Maysville; sisters, Betty Hamm of Maysville and Lilly Moore of Ripley, Ohio; brothers, Cecil Purcell of Bethel, Ohio, and Larry Purcell, Tommy Purcell and James Purcell, all of Maysville; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial will be in St. Patrick Church, Maysville.

Ruth M. Brandenburger, 71, of West Covington, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday at her home. She was a stockroom manager for the J.C. Penney department store, Covington, a member of St. Ann Church, West Covington, and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Survivors include a sister, Theresa C. Brandenburger of West Covington; and brothers, Richard J. Brandenburger of Ludlow, Robert Brandenburger of West Covington and James Brandenburger of Dayton.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Stephanie Marie Brooks, an infant, of Ghent, died shortly after birth Tuesday at Tri-County Baptist Hospital, La Grange.
Survivors include her father, Richard Brooks of Cincinnati; mother, Frances Seniours of Ghent; maternal grandparents, Fred and Alberta Seniours, both of Ghent; and paternal grandmother, Della Brooks of Cincinnati.
Services and visitation will be private for the family. Burial will be in Ghent Second Baptist Church Cemetery. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.
Betty Buckley, 70, of Falmouth, died Friday at her home. Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Barry David Cooper, 38, of Maysville, died at 12:41 a.m. Thursday in a car wreck on Ky. 8 in Lewis County. He was a carpenter for Barton's Construction and a member of Germantown Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda L. Evans Cooper of Maysville; daughter, Lindsey Nicole Cooper at home; stepdaughter, Misty Lee Dawn Blizzard of Maysville; stepson, David Eric Evans of Vanceburg; mother, Mary Jane Cooper of Brooksville; brothers, Charles Cooper of Maysville, Kenneth Wayne Cooper of Dover and Billy Cooper of Los Angeles; and sisters, Darre Lynn Cooper of Los Angeles, Charlene Griffith of Maysville and Dianna Tucker of Germantown.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Clarence Elmer Hayes, 74, of Norwood, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired employee of General Motors, Norwood, Ohio, a signal mechanic for the railroads and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0123, Norwood; Moose Lodge No. 301, Norwood; and VFW Post No. 9272, Seminole, Fla.
Survivors include his daughter, Marketta Hayes of Fort Thomas; sons, Ronald E. Hayes of Covington and Roger J. Hayes of Largo, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. A military honor guard service will be held. Memorials are to the charity of the donor's choice.
Mary E. Herzog, 82, of Dayton, died Thursday at her home. She was a retired proofreader for Williams Directory, past president of Northern Kentucky Guild for the Retarded, Dayton Homemakers and the 4-H Advisory Council of Campbell County. Her husband, Lawrence Herzog Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Nina Buddell of Newport, Mary Jo McCall of Cincinnati and Alice O'Day of Dayton; sons, Daniel Herzog of Commerce Township, Mich., Mark Herzog of Alton, Ill., Stephen Herzog of Fort Thomas and Lawrence Herzog Jr. of Louisville; sisters, Marie Estell "Dot" Bennett of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Catherine James of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Debra Marie Marshall, 37, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at her home. She was a secretary for Staples Direct, Florence.
Survivors include her son, Isaac Ripberger of Fort Thomas; mother, Claira Ripberger of Newport; sister, Tori Blevins of Cleves, Ohio; and brothers, David Ripberger of Patriot, Ind., and Kenneth Ripberger of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Katherine M. Rundell, 96, of Jacksonville Fla., died Friday in Jacksonville. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harry C. Rundell Sr., died in 1980. Her son, Harry C. Rundell Jr., died in 1997.
Survivors include her brother, Pete Briggs of Remson, N.Y.; sister, Freda Messina of Melbourne, Fla.; one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren.

Ruth Marie West, 83, of Fort Mitchell, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a furrier and seamstress. Her husband, Elmer West, died in 1958.
Survivors include daughters, Beverly West Lamb of Symmes Township, Ohio, and Maureen West Williams of Union; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Susie Young, 89, formerly of Carrollton, died Thursday at Meadows Health Care Center, Forest Park, Ohio. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Dalton Young, died in 1980. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Her body will be cremated.
