Ruby Mae Field Simpson, had owned Butler Beauty
In her 83 years, Ruby Mae Field Simpson was a farmer, aircraft engine worker, beautician, business owner, teacher, wife, and perhaps most important, mother and grandmother.
She was known as "the teen-age grandma" to her two granddaughters, said her daughter, Joyce Layton. "Ruby's entire life was devoted to her family."
Mrs. Simpson, of Taylor Mill, died Friday at Woodcrest Manor Nursing Home, Elsmere.
Before opening her Covington beauty salon, she al ready had been a Pendleton County farmer with her husband, Lester Simpson, and worked on aircraft engines during World War II. But her dream was to become a beautician and open a shop, which she did in the late 1940s. Mrs. Simpson owned Butler Beauty Shoppe in Covington until 1987, where customers watched her daughter and granddaughters grow up.
She also taught Sunday school at Oakland Christian Church, Falmouth, and was a member of Lakeside Christian Church, Lakeside Park, when she died.
She was a member of the Easter Star, Rosebud Chapter No. 39.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Clark Simpson, Taylor Mill; daughter, Joyce Layton, Edgewood; a sister, Mildred Field Jones, Covington; two granddaughters and three great granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial is in Floral Hills cemetery in Taylor Mill.

Betty Frances Buckley, 70, of Falmouth, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Falmouth Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Buckley; sons, Kenneth Buckley and Steve Buckley, both of Falmouth, and Jimmy Buckley of Alexandria; daughters, Pamela Clark and Karen Barker, both of Falmouth; a brother, Wilford McNay of the state of California; a sister, Dorothy Caldwell of Butler; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
No services are planned. Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, is handling arrangements.
Ervin L. Corey, 78, of Covington, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired Army veteran and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Covington. He was active with Fair Haven Mission in Covington. A son, Nicky Corey, preceded him in death.
Survivors include brothers, James M. Corey of Cincinnati and Ralph Corey of Jeffersonville.
No local services are planned. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at E. C. Nurre Funeral Home, Cincinnati.
Cynthia Rose Culbertson, 47, of Edgewood, died Friday in Erlanger. She was a former laboratory technician with Miami Valley Labs of Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, and Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Steven P. Culbertson; a son, Conrad S. Culbertson, at home; a daughter, Nicole R. Culbertson, at home; her mother, Mildred F. Baute Foltz of Fort Wright; and sisters, Melanie Dressman of Englewood, Colo., and Christine Middendorf of Tucson, Ariz.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, and will continue in the church hall immediately fol lowing entombment. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Carolyn Goosmann Floyd, 70, of Fort Mitchell, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Floyd; daughters, Deni Quinlan of Burlington and Terri Wettle of Lexington, N.C.; a son, Greg Floyd of Florence; a brother, Joe Goosmann of Cumberland, R.I.; and five grandchildren.

Georgia "Louise" French, 76, of Cynthiana, died Friday at University Medical Center, Lexington. She was a self-employed nurse.

James Edward Hicks, 38, of Covington, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday at his home.

Claire M. Raum Lusby, 76, of Cold Spring, died Saturday at her daughter's home in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Campbell County Fishing and Game Association. Her husband, Curtis J. Lusby, preceded her in death.

Opal L. McGee, 94, of Warsaw, died Saturday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Floyd McGee, died in 1978.

James M. Rohan, 74, of Cincinnati, formerly of Ludlow, died Saturday at his home. He was a railroad engineer with Southern Railway, and past president of the Southern Ohio Railway Union. He was a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow, and a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His wife, Janet Rohan, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Wiethorn of Cincinnati; sons, Mark Rohan of Lexington, Pat Rohan of Hamilton, Ohio, Michael Rohan of Madison, Wis., Steve Rohan of Erlanger, and Sean Rohan, Tin Rohan and Kelly Rohan, all of Ludlow; sisters, Renie Schmidtz of Bromley; Virginia Knocleman, Kathleen Britton and Eillen Waymeyer, all of Ludlow; a brother, Thomas Rohan of Lexington; 18 grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Robert F. Schack, 82, of Covington, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. He was a retired farmer and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, California. His wife, Griselda Schack, died in 1991.

Tilman J. "T.J." Witt, 65, of Taylor Mill, died at 4:14 a.m. Sunday at University Medical Center, Lexington. He was a retired equipment cleaner with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Covington Lodge No. 1 Fraternal Order of Police. He was a former police officer with the Taylor Mill Police Department.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Gulley Witt; sons, Tim L. Witt of Independence and Bill A. Witt of Taylor Mill; a brother, Robert Witt of Irvine; and three grandchildren.

Katherine "Katie" Jennings Young, 74, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a member of St. Cecilia Church, Independence.
