Beattie DeLong, civic-minded
Beattie DeLong was known for his tireless efforts to improve Campbell County.
In addition to being a former chairman of the Silver Grove Independent School District, Mr. DeLong was also a long-time member of the Silver Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. DeLong, 82, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at his home.
"He and his family were always energetic. He was a nice person. He wasn't boisterous, " said Jean Boyer, a former Silver Grove city clerk.
He was a retired manager of electric distribution with Cinergy and a past president of the Fort Thomas Lions Club, Holly Hill Children's Home, Campbell County Junior Chamber of Commerce and Northern Kentucky Community Action Committee.
Mr. DeLong was a former member of the board of trustees of Greater Cincinnati United Appeal and was a member of the committee that helped pass a bond issue to build St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He was the president of the Evergreen cemetery board, and was a director emeritus of the Northern Kentucky University Foundation.
He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church in Fort Thomas, and Silver Grove Lodge No. 916 F&AM, and was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Lislie DeLong, preceded him in death.
Miss Boyer said Mr. DeLong enjoyed helping his neighbors.
"He was always civic-minded, " she said.
Survivors include a son, Beattie DeLong of Chicago; daughters, Laura Randall of Fort Thomas, Martha Seibert of Birmingham, Ala., and Elizabeth Turner of Milford, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Larry Roscoe Bedford, 86, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Grand Haven Nursing Home in Cynthiana.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry.
Charles Edward Burgan, 69, of Las Vegas, formerly of Covington, died Nov. 13 at his home. He was a truck driver and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Burgan; daughters, Amy Bowman of Covington and Sandra Cox of Cincinnati; sisters, Goldie Shadon of Las Vegas and Edith Rummel of Tennessee; brothers, Earl Burgan of Las Vegas, Leo Burgan of Florida and Donald Burgan and Paul Burgan, both of Kentucky; five grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Nevada Funeral Service, Las Vegas, is handling arrangements.
Charles C. C. Clark, 52, of Covington, died Monday at his home. He was a self-employed produce salesman.
Survivors include a son, Charles Clark of Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Michelle Clark of Norfolk; his parents, Charles E. Clark of Erlanger and Marian Heath of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters, Patricia Latta of Glendale, Ohio, and Linda Cook of Burlington; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 8 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Helen Katheryne Penn Coates, 86, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Harrison Me morial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a retired teacher with Harrison County schools, and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church, and the Harrison County and Kentucky retired teachers associations. Her husband, Elmer H. Coates, died on Sept. 1.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lou Hatterick of Cynthiana; and three granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Drake Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Bryce Andrew Cracraft, 3 days, the son of Brent Lee Cracraft and Mary Frances Musser of Maysville, died at 1 p.m. Monday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include a half-brother, Hunter Lee Cracraft; grandparents, Fallie Maynard Musser of Grayson, Kenny and Yvonne Meyers Cracraft of Mays Lick; and great-grandparents, Eugene and Inez Bierley Myers of Maysville.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick. Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick, is handling arrangements.
Mabel Gaines Ewbank, 97, of Warsaw, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Gallatin County Homemakers, a former 4H volunteer leader and a member of Beaverlick Christian Church, Boone County. Her husband, William Ryle Ewbank, died in 1985. A daughter, Jean Pryor, died in 1983.
Survivors include sons, William Robert Ewbank of Warsaw and James Louis Ewbank of Georgetown; daughters, Eloise James of Birmingham, Ala., and Mary Katherine LeGrand of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at her daughter's home, Steele's Bottom Road, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the residence. Burial will be in Beaverlick Christian Church Cemetery, Walton. John David Freeman, 45, of Morning View, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a furniture mover with Al Nash Moving and Storage, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Anne Fauz of Wake Forest, N.C.; his parents, Robert and Betty Freeman of Morning View; sisters, Fannie Wurzbacher of Falmouth and Barbara Clifford of Piner; and brothers, Robert Freeman II of Dayton and Charles Freeman of Dayton.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m Friday.
Olivia Marianne Krouse, 13 days, daughter of Donald R. and Kendall J. Buczek Krouse of Lakeside Park, died Tuesday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include brothers, James P. Krouse and Edward H. Krouse, both at home; and grandparents, H. Roy Krouse and Irene M. Krouse of Calgary, Canada, and Ted P. and Marlene A. Buczek of Fergus, Canada.

nov. Warren "Jack" G. Mooney, 79, of Southgate, died Wednesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 212, Cincinnati, a World War II veteran, a member of Carson Masonic Lodge in Cincinnati, and was active with Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Mooney; a daughter, Jeannine Dougherty of Highland Heights; brothers, Carl Mooney of Beckley, W.Va., and Dan Mooney of Charleston, W.Va.; sisters, Maxine Morris and Ruthella Thomas, both of Beckley; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm. Friday at the funeral home.
Robert Emmet Ryan, 90, of Covington, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

Donald Lee Saddler, 58, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Lexington. He was a farmer, truck driver and mechanic, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Perry of Harrison County; a son, Donald Gene Nickerson of Cynthiana; his mother, Dorothy Medley Saddler of Palmetto, Fla.; brothers, Richard Saddler of Tampa and Johnny Saddler Jr. of Palmetto; sisters, Linda Rowe of Athens, Ga., Dorothy Ford of Palmetto, Ruby Gonzalez and Bonnie Sparks, both of Bradenton, Fla., and Jackie Daniels of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

John Taylor, 75, of Crescent Springs, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired owner of Covington Auto Body, a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and a member of the Navy Reserves. His wife, Alice Taylor, died in 1996.
Survivors include sons, Timothy Taylor of Elsmere, Henry Blake Taylor of Florence and Jonathan Taylor of Crescent Springs; daughters, Rebecca McVay of Fort Mitchell, Beverly Brewer of Elsmere, Sandra Ciulla of Latonia, Norma Furman of Williamstown, Alice Schaffer of Crittenden and Belinda Boggs of West Harrison, Ind.; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Khan Thi Vu, 72, of Erlanger, died at 5:22 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere.
Survivors include her husband, Hoa Dinh; daughters, Teresa Dinh, Mary Dinh and Oanh Dinh, all of Erlanger, and Nguyen Dinh of Edgewood; sons, Diem Dinh of Loveland, Ohio, Trung Dinh and Dong Dinh, both of Erlanger; and 11 grandchildren.

Dorothy Moore Young, 75, of Alexandria, died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Rolling Hills Christian Church in Cold Spring and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 3205, Alexandria. Her husband, Charles Young, died in 1990.
Survivors include daughters, Gail Gosney of Fort Thomas and Debbie Goodman of Taylor Mill; sons, Daryl Young of Jacksonville, Fla., Kevin Young of Grants Lick and Keith Young of Mount Orab, Ohio; sisters, Catherine Cook and Ollie Cook, both of Newport; a brother, Jack Cook of Newport; and 13 grandchildren.
