Jeanie Mercer loved movies, ran video store
Jeanie Mercer loved working with people and that quality brought her success - first as a health care professional, and later, as a business owner.
But her family said she also loved movies, and that's why 14 years ago, she decided to blend avocation and vocation by opening Showtime Video in Alexandria.
"It's something she really wanted to do, because in Alexandria at the time there was no video store and she thought they needed one, so she opened one, " said her daughter Rhonda Taravella. "She loved movies. She really loved mysteries and horror movies."
Jeanie Stenger Mercer, 66, of Alexandria died Monday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
Mrs. Mercer owned and operated Showtime Video in Alexandria with her husband, Dan Mercer.
Before indulging her love of heart-racing horror movies, Mrs. Mercer had worked as an EKG technician, monitoring how fast other people's hearts raced. She had spent 30 years in that field at various local hospitals, including the former Speers Hospital in Dayton, and St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
"I think she just liked working with different people and helping the sick because she was always a giving person, " said her daughter. "She was a great mom. She was very caring."
