Sister Mary Leonille, taught 45 years
Sister Mary Leonille, S.N.D., was a quiet, prayerful woman, yet could fire off a one-liner with the best of them.
She had a deep love of God, which she she showed through serving others.
Formerly Estelle R. Back, she went to the convent when she was very young, said her brother Paul Back, of West Chester, Ohio.
She became a sister 61 years ago.
"She was very happy in her surroundings, " Back said.
Sister Leonille, 81, of Covington, died Friday at Sisters of Notre Dame St. Joseph Heights, Park Hills.
She was a teacher with the Diocese of Covington and Archdiocese of Cincinnati for 45 years.
She was a good educator and well-liked, her brother said.
She taught mostly middle grades, said Sister Mary Rose Paula Foltz.
When she wasn't teaching, she was a very good cook and liked playing cards and reading. She also liked knitting and often made clothing for the poor.
Her sister, Sister Mary Regina, is a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame community. Sister Mary Regina and Sister Mary Leonille lived together at the convent's Provincial House for the past five or six years, said Sister Foltz.
In addition to her brother, Paul, and her sister, Mary Regina, survivors include brothers, Robert Back of Mason, Ohio, and William Back of Loveland, Ohio; and sisters, Mary Deyer of Kettering, Ohio, and Theresa Thomas of Powder Springs, Ga.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sisters of Notre Dame convent chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the convent's Provincial House. A wake service will begin there at 5 p.m. Burial will be in the convent cemetery.

Ruth Hill Craig, 82, of Mount Olivet, died Saturday at Robertson County Health Care Center in Mount Olivet.
She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, where she played the piano and organ for many years.
She was a former member of Robertson County Homemakers and a past president of United Methodist Women. Her husband, Herschel Clay Craig, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Karl Craig of Mount Olivet, Gerald Craig of Lexington and Ray Craig of Germantown; daughters, Joy Mastin of Germantown and Lisa Sutton of Mount Olivet; a brother, Ralph Hill of Florida; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mary Goekler, 84, of Alexandria, died Sunday at her home. She was a retired shoe lacer for Krippendorf Shoe Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, George Goekler, died in 1962.
Survivors include her friends, Dan Guidugli, Mary Guidugli, Joe Guidugli and Greg Guidugli, all of Alexandria.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Robert F. Hagedorn, 90, of Villa Hills, died Saturday at Woodland Hills Care Center, Lawrenceburg, Ind.

James William Harrell, 82, of Taylor Mill, died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired clerk with Cincinnati Union Terminal and a member of Banklick Christian Church, where he was former deacon and trustee. He was a member of Transportation Communication Union. His wife, Minnie Johnson Harrell, died in 1977.
Survivors include a nephew, Ronald C. Cooper, of Demossville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Alice Hutton, 65, of Covington, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker. A daughter, Brenda Sue Hutton, died in 1955.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Hutton; a daughter, Bonnie Martin of Fort Thomas; sons, Rick Hutton of Falmouth, Clarence Hutton and David Hutton, both of Covington; sisters, Bonnie Vougan of Batavia, Ohio, and Dolly Day of Ervin; brothers, Earl Wilson of Newport, Willard Wilson of Covington, Woodrow Wilson of Alexandria, Melvin Wilson of California and Ted Wilson of Bateville; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Hart Funeral Home, Corbin. Burial will be in Corbin Cemetery. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling local arrangements.
Carol K. Leach, 73, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired real estate agent.
Survivors include sons, Thomas "Tad" C. Leach of Lexington and James M. Leach of Erlanger; a brother, David Kuck of Oracle, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Co., Cincinnati.

Ruth Masters, 84, of Richwood, died Thursday at her home.
She was a homemaker and an office worker with Kentucky Transportation Department and the Boone County Sheriff's Department. She was a member of Richwood Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Greg Masters of Richwood; and three step-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Gloria Jean Meiner, 47, of Bellevue, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a deputy clerk with the Campbell County district court in Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Meiner; a daughter, Jennifer Meiner of Fort Thomas; a son, Samuel Meiner of Portsmouth, Ohio; her parents, Leroy and Florence Tuttle of Covington; sisters, Edna McDanold of Jacksonville, Fla., Patricia Hicks, Cindy Miller, Christine Siebert and Tina Tuttle, all of Covington; a brother, Leroy Tuttle Jr. of Covington; and one grandchild.

Clarence B. Miller, 84, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a retired business agent, and a member of Newport Elks, Disabled American Veterans and the Central YMCA in Cincinnati. He was a former employee of Hudepohl Brewing Co., and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Miller; sons, Dick Miller of Maineville, Ohio, and Charles Miller of Fort Thomas; daughters, Kathy Eckerle of Southgate and Kathy Lunch of Newport; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Marie Kennedy Miller, 87, of Taylor Mill, died at 1:45 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Robinson of Taylor Mill and Patricia Elvidge of Farmington, Mich.; a sister, Garnet Brown of Newport; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

He was a manager of a Remke Market grocery store and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Margaret B. Fryman Perkins, 75, of Williamstown, died Sunday at Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown.
She was a homemaker and a member of Robinson Christian Church. Her husband, Lawrence Perkins, preceded her in death.

Violet S. Stephens Rademacher, 81, of Green Township, Ohio, formerly of Taylor Mill, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a retired physical education instructor with the Women's Health Club of Wade YMCA, Covington, and a former member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Lakeside Park.
She was a former employee of S&H; Stamp Store, Latonia, and Montgomery Ward and was a former member of Covington and Beverly Hills homemakers clubs.
She was a member of Beverly Hills Garden Club and the Citrus County Craft Association.
Survivors include her husband, George M. Rademacher; sons, Edward E. Stephens of Cincinnati and Gary L. Stephens of Hochstadt, Germany; a stepdaughter, Donna Parker of Michigan; a sister, Margaret "Peggy" Colvin of Tyler, Texas; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Eddie Davis Rogers, 67, of Corinth, died Saturday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown.
He was a funeral director and the manager of Rogers Funeral Home in Corinth. He formerly owned the funeral home.
He was a member of Corinth Lions Club, the Syrian Temple of Cincinnati, Grant Lodge No. 85 F&AM in Williamstown, Scottish Rite Valley of Covington, the Georgetown American Legion Post and the Kentucky Funeral Directors Association.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene T. Rogers; sons, Jeffrey D. Rogers of Lexington, Timothy B. Rogers of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Christopher H. Rogers of West Hollywood, Calif.; and his mother, Louise Rogers Faulconer of Corinth.

Okey Marrit "Pop" Tenney, 86, of Latonia, died at 1:33 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired painter with C&O; Railroad and a member of Latonia Christian Church. He was a foster parent to a total of 157 children and an ordained minister. He was an elder at his church, a Sunday school teacher and helped start several churches.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine L. Proctor Tenney; daughters, Mary Ann Parshall of Fort Mitchell and Barbara Lee Dorman of Ryland Heights; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Linda Sue Adams Thompson, 59, of Augusta, died Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker and a member of Augusta Church of the Nazarene. She taught Sunday school there, and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include her husband, John E. "Sonny" Thompson Jr.; sons, Marc Thompson of North Pole, Alaska, and Eric Thompson of Gahanna, Ohio; her father, Ogden E. Adams of Augusta; sisters, Patricia Sonfield and Kathy Pickrell, both of Augusta; brothers, John Adams of Willoughby, Ohio, and Roger Adams of Ohio; and two granddaughters.

Charlie G. Wright, 89, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
He was a retired mechanic and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. His wife, Elizabeth Foreman Wright, and sons, Charles Alvin Wright and Gerald Thomas Wright, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Cecil Wright and James Wright, both of Harrison County, and Larry Wright of Auburn, Ind.; daughters, Mary Courtney and Barbara Shields, both of Harrison County, and Dorothy Fryman of Lawrenceburg; 29 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
